  • this demo is incredible! - these sounds are exactly what i and many others would hope for when buying a synth, my cs1x and qs300 have similar pad sounds, but not on this scale! many thanks for showing - david

  • I have bought and sold every digital synth you can think of but the EX5 has NEVER left my arsenal. It is honestly one of the most unique synthesizers ever made. You can recognize the sound of an EX series immediately and it is SO POWERFUL for being 15 years old. It is far warmer sounding than any other digital synth from that time. If you think the presets sound good, just wait until you hear what it can do with the full RAM upgrades and external samples loaded in!!

  • whats the preset at 4:53?? sounds very sexeh

  • @marillo18 The preset is called as "Nusic" =D

  • just got one. wow, what a great synth. does anyone know if the an part of the synth, is just like having an an1x (not sure if this question has been asked)? and can you load the sounds of the sy-85, and sy-99 on to the ex5? oh and one last thing, is there a great editor that can fully program, not just partially like some of the others ive seen, the ex5?

  • @NoiseArtz Well, yes, the AN part is exactly same as in AN1X but surely you can assign AN into other feature the EX-5/7 contains so in that way you can do things the AN1X can't do. I have no idea regarding to loading sounds from SY series but I doubt since they are different from EX. I strongly advise not to use editors since they are really not necessary. EX-5/7 are one of the best machines because they have got so easy and quick user interface that is unsurpassed... except the JD-990 / JV-2080

  • @AnalogyGuy awesome, thanks analog guy!

  • All about the 4:10

  • @shortinos Only a pity I didn't have the breath Controller at the time. It makes all the difference for the expression and now it's irreplaceable tool specially for VL synthesis.

  • @AnalogyGuy I'm about to buy one of these and I just want to know what the breath controller allows you to do? Is it for playing flutes or something?

  • @smooveface Just search for "Yamaha VL1 Demostracion" and you will see. You can do almost anything you want with breath controller since it's totally assignable for various configurations.

  • I used to have an EX-5R, but I sold it...

...in order to buy a silver EX-5. :)

  • Such a beautiful sounding synth with more or less endless possibilities......i had to get one.....

  • Watching other videos and mostly this one is the reason why I now own an EX5. I remember this synth when i was a kid. After hearing it's sounds in person....I think i'll never let this thing go despite it's flaws. You can tell alot of hard work and money went into it. At first i had buyers remorse but that is slowly disappearing the more I learn it and add on to it.

  • An old synth as it has 1.44M disk drive? This synth has many sounds articulate as the recent yamaha tech----superarticulation.

  • If you wanna hear a good result of the use of EX5 in a production have a look at my channel

In "Too clever" EX5 is the bass, the arpeggio, and solos. I love its sound.

  • I should receive mine soon!!!

  • What effects are you using here? Is it all internal? I have the EX7. It sounds good, but not quite this good. I'm thinking about selling it for one of these. I also use Kawai K5000 and Kurzweil K2000.

  • @brofjw

It's all internal. EX-7 is totally same soundwise as EX-5 except that it misses VL synthesis and have less polyphony etc. And I'm very sure that changing from EX-7 to EX-5 is not reasonable as it does not make difference at sound quality... there's no differences at effects, output and so on.

  • JD990 sounds better as far as raw sound goes

  • I used to own the EX-5 and replaced it with a Kurzweil K-2500S. Although I love the Kurzweil to the point that I had every option ever available installed on it, I had to have the sounds of the EX-5 back; so I bought a loaded (minus OS upgrade) EX-5r. I just purchased and updated the OS to the latest version and I now use the K-2500S, EX-5r, Motif Rack and Korg X5Dr together to complement my Yamaha Motif ES-8 and Roland JV-1080....life is good!!!!!!! :-)

  • I have the keyboard version of the EX5. It's depth is truly amazing. You do a great job of showing off its lush sound. Thanks!

  • @preamp82

Yeah it is but the interface is also a bit different but as good as in JD-990. Main difference is that EX-5 contains 8 soft buttons whereas JD-990 contains only 6, and besides the soft buttons, EX-5 also have shift button which enables another new functions to be made with soft buttons =)

  • One of the greatest digital synthesizers built, along with my Kurzweil K2XXX series synthesizers - shame about it being a pain to update the Operating System due to a few timing bugs and a very slow SCSI interface, uses EEPROM chips instead of FLASH RAM via internet!

  • Really gret Demo¡¡¡ inspires¡¡¡

  • LOVE.

  • I'll always keep my EX5.

Even if it's a bit buggy, it has an enormous potential, that can't be found on Motifs.

  • @TheEvilDindon Well, I sold my EX5R (which I'd bought second-hand)... but it was to be able to afford a silver EX5. :)

  • The EX-5 is one of the greates pad-synths EVER. Love it! Thanks for posting this btw. I think I'll have to make one myself :P

  • Everytime I think I'm going to sell mine, I never do. The 128-note polyphony is staggering, not to mention the depths at which this thing can go, and the sounds are just second to none. Total beast.

  • Congratulations for this presentation.

I have one EX5, too, and i love it!

    Best wishes.

    Sotiris (Synthscape).

  • Nice to see that clips like this are starting to appear which finally showcase the EX5 as a truly great synth, rather than just a fairly decent piano!

  • @thisisnev

I totally agree! Main things why I bought it was lovely VL synthesis and the most advanced 4-track live arpeggiator... in fact it's step sequencer! Instead of preset patterns you can make totally new ones! Now imagine 4 sequencers playing at the same time and you can transpose each track separately with different midi channel... and each 4 tracks sends midi out so you can use them to play external sounds!

  • @AnalogyGuy I heard this synth is limited when it comes to dsp resources. I'm going to purchase one soon but I don't know if I should. I'm into programming and sound design.

  • @TheReasonableLogic

It may be a bit limiting but only if you're going to use it as main workstation. I can tell you, you can ignore all the tritons and motifs... but you should never ignore this amazing synth! The sounds and the "warm" quality makes it very unique. Think EX synth more of like "not good workstation but extremely great synthesizer". I can tell you, you should buy it because it is like JD-990, a truely programmer's dreamsynth.
