Damn...considering the time this bad mother came to the market, it would have looked like wizardry would it ever have found its way to western markets...very impressive! So sad that apart from their supercomputers the Fujitsu of today is just another beige-box vemdor
ive seen like all your hard off videos and this. and ill tell u this now IM PROBABLY THE MOST JELOUS GUY IN THE WOR RIGHT NOW!!! u lucky little sod :)
Yeah, it is a pretty amazing machine for sure. I'm sooo glad that I found it. the few games that I do have for it look and sound amazing! thanks for checkin it out.
Get a Mo oder HD Drive so you can install games and that really improves speed & loading times.
Do NOT use burned CDs, it will damage the drive after a short time period. You can use the system as monitor for x68000 computers as well and if you want you can use the internal rgb out to diplay most games on modern LCD TVs. Personally i connect the UX to my 26" LCD and picture quality is near vga.
Aww man, I've kinda got it burried right now. I've been trying to find places for stuff but running out of space lol. maybe down the road I can but it's pretty rough right now.
That an amazing system. Does it have a hard drive, or must you load everything from disks? This thing is far above any IBM compatible PC for the time. Is is MS-DOS compatible? perhaps the keyboard and mouse will work on your FM towns Marty. Is the operating system stored in ROM as was the case with a lot of computers back then?
Thanks man! No HD but reads all the system info from ROM disks. I've got all different system disks for it and Yeah, I think I'll use one of the mice for the marty XD.
Dude, I tell ya, I really never intentionally go looking for really retro stuff cause I always come back empty handed. what I do do instead is go out with no expectations of finding anything special and if I don't than oh well, nothing lost but sometimes I get surprises like this that make my week XD
Wow, never heard of 'FM Towns' before. Looks very interesting. Congrats on getting such a good price for it, and I look forward to seeing more videos on it. =)
Man, I've never seen the FM Towns version of After Burner(though the music is IDENTICAL to the music in the Mega CD version of After Burner III). Mind actually playing it(preferably on the FM Towns Marty if possible)?
I'm sure that if you ask one of these guys from the UK, they might be able to get you one at a reasonable price ;D BTW, Awesome job on having 3 of the Genesis 2's working. You're starting to look like me now lol ;F
Cool I didn't know they had an 80386 in them. I thought they were more like a video game console I didn't realize it was basically a PC. Is there a Hard Drive in it? They would have made a killer gaming machine at the time but if its basically a PC with a 386 chip they must have been crazy expensive!
No, this doesn't have a HD in is but it is an impressive machine for it's time for sure. Just an amazing peice of equipment but I still think that the Multi-use monitor for the Commodore 64 that you showed in your vids is pretty amazing as well. I think that the older machines like these were ahead of there time back in the day.
To think that around that time, boffins were knocking one off over their Acorn Archimedes` with their Virus`, whereas kids in Japan had this. The mind boggles.
A worthy addition to your hardware collection. You really now need a Capcom CPS Changer though mate...
LoL, That would be pretty cool but more than that, what I need now is,well.,a new place cause I don't know where I'm going to fit all this stuff I keep gettin and especially if it continues to be this size I'm going to be in some trouble.. When I go out and find stuff like this, the little light that should come on and say "Luke, you have no space for this stuff" just doesn't come on. I don't know what it is but although I like fixing stuff, I just don't want to fix that switch ;D. Regrets after
Hey Luke, if you're after any games, I've got a couple of copies of Chase HQ, New Zealand Story and Splatterhouse lying around for the FM Towns if you want them.
If you burn CD-R's at the slowest possible speed, that REALLY improves players reading them.
And you can also increase the intensity of readers too if all else fails, there's a tine screw next to the lens that you nudge clockwise ever so slightly..
That is indeed a cool piece of hardware! Watching videos like this makes me miss those days when computers didn't have glitchy operating-systems and a huge-ass desktop filling the whole screen along with a truckload of icons!
Nice purchase and nice video! Keep your great stuff comming :P
Thanks a lot man. That's soo true. Now a days it's like everything you want to check out or download wants to put an icon on your desktop for a shortcut and you're like 'WTF!? another Icon"?! lol, thanks for the comments though, really appreciate it.
Thanks a lot man. I think the likelyhood of me finding one of those would be like me finding another one of these in this condition ;F....but stranger things have happend ;D
got this system. great :) sits next to my dreamcast divers console and hyper 64 running buriki one :)

A 386 cpu and 10 MB ram in 1989 was probably unheard of - I remember paying $80.00 for 8 MB for my 486 packard bell pc but that was in 1996.
The After Burner demo makes the system seem like it would be very comparable to a Neo Geo.

Did you say the shop where you got this was called Hard-on? Because that would be an appropriate name.

Yup, i've done it myself.
If you burn CD-R's at the slowest possible speed, that REALLY improves players reading them.
And you can also increase the intensity of readers too if all else fails, there's a tine screw next to the lens that you nudge clockwise ever so slightly..
