Evil, Devlin made tapes of what he did to Shawn. When his own defense lawyers viewed them they threw up their hands and advised Devlin to plead guilty which would seem to make no sense as he got the max. sentence and thus would seem to have had nothing to lose by going to trial. It was *that bad*. That's when I understood and knew I was wrong with my first reaction, like so many others. Few of us have known the *terror* that this boy has. That explains much.

I'm not saying O'Reilly is correct, and for the most part, I believe he's a very messed up man, but from what I've heard, O'Reilley brings up a good point. I don't know all the facts, and I'm not going to make a judgement on something I can't examine properly, but from what I do know, what O'Reilly brings up makes a lot of sense.

If you're being so blatantly mistreated, and you not only have the ability to escape this, but have somewhere to escape too, then why not. Of course, I don't know the mental stability of this kid. And I don't remember any death threads.

Although it seems that he had oppertunity I wouldn't have said anything incase he found out and killed me. People seem to forget that he was 11 when he was taken. We must all learn to stop rushing to judgments and not be too prideful to admit when we are wrong. This is how we learn, if we are willing to. Mr. O'Reilly is a born conservative (like me) and it is his nature to think in terms of black and white and shoot from the hip in reaction. Logically, Shawn should have left Devlin when he could have easily done so. I, for one, have come to realize why the boy did not. I hope Mr. O'Reilly will pause to reflect and learn as well.

Hornbeck was both a victim and a little punk who stayed with Devlin, taunted his own family and caused them untold grief and did nothing to save the next kid Devlin snatched, like calling 911 when Devlin was at work. In retrospect, however, the answer is that while it is so easy to say and type the word “terrorized,” it is quite another matter to actually experience such. This kid did.
