I know somebody who has them ships in the box... He never took them out! Why dont people just enjoy and play with them. Its where imagination evolves. Dam the people who save them for somebody in the future that they dont know. who most probley open the box and tare it up then play with it. thumbs up if you agree! Now is now and we are here now!
Those figures had some great sculpting, unfortunately very little articulation, but only one less point that a shitty star wars figure, which sucked. This toy I would say was better than the Falcon.
I too had one! My mother was a single mom on welfare way back then...and it "disapeared" over time through many moves. I want to have another one now that I am older and can appreciate it far more now! Thanks for sharing!
I had one of these as a kid. Don't remember ever having the action figures. Maybe it was a regift or something. The entire craft ended up slowing falling apart over the course of my childhood. If I hit the lotto I'll buy another one.
I had this when I was a kid, and spent hour upon hour upon hour playing with it. Such an awesome toy! I would still have it, but my mother likes to toss things... that's another story altogether! haha! Thanks so much for sharing. Brought back great memories!
Eagle transporters are my all time favourite sci-fi spaceship. You can keep your Enterprises and Millenium Falcons, it was always the Eagle for me. I can't remember ever seeing one if these tho, or I'd have pestered for one till I passed out!! LOL!! I did have the Airfix model and my mate had the Corgi version.
I had one of these. I got it for christmas of 76 or 77. I'm glad other people remember the show and toys. I was kidnapped and forced to live in WV w/ grandparents shortly after I received this toy as a gift. In WV, nobody else, including the chlidren had ever even heard of Space:1999.
I had this toy also. Even as a kid I hated the Seams,Extra glue, Stickers were a dissapointment, Just because i was 9 at the time & thought IT should be better...Wow! Thanks for the memories! Miss it dearly, Just like ALL my Star Wars & Star Trek Toys, if I only knew........
Great video- and comments too. Mine was a smaller version without the interier detail or action figures. I remember putting the stickers on and liked how the central body compartment could be separated. From the comments I realize it was the Airfix kit. I never knew about the Mattel model. Still love the theme song.
I had this toy back in 1977! Alas, after many, many "crash landings on an ice comet" by launching it into snowbanks in January 1977 and the debut of Star Wars later that Summer to divert my attention, it became lost into my past.
Gee... this vid brings back lots of memories. I seen this in a Montgomery Wards or Sears Christmas catalog and wanted one for Christmas. What I got was the smaller die-cast Dinky toy instead... But I did get the mini bike I wanted.
My God. I remember I had this same ship when I was a kid. Sadly, Like all of us at one time, I was a kid, and destroyed the shit out of it by playing with it in a swimming pool. I miss those SPACE 1999 toys.
I had an Eagle and glued the lasers from a Cylon Raider model onto the front module. What happened to the Raider? Well, 10 year old boy, me, on the 4th of July and a package of Black Cats. And I do mean the true Black Cats of then, not now. I could have been hired by any special effects department, cause that Raider went up in a spectacular fashion.
Thanks to my mom, who throws everything away that doesn't interest/pertain to her, I lost this model eons ago. Shame. It provided me with hours of play and imagination. Forget what it's worth now, I would love to play with it with my girlfriend's son today!
I had that toy when I was a kid. Spent hours playing with it (mostly with GI Joes or Star Wars guys flying it) but thank you for posting this and letting me relive a piece of my childhood! Great!!!!
Can't say I ever saw one of these in Australia - so jealous! All I ever had was the crummy Airfix kit - and this Mattel toy appears to be more faithful to the original, except for the drop-down sides.
I got this as well for the XMas of '76 when I was 8. It was an awesome toy. Too bad those figures that came with broke as soon you played with them...!
I had one and tied string around the landing pads so I could spin around and make like it was flying. One day my mother decided I needed to get rid of some of my many toys in a yard sale. I lost my ship, a Star Trek phaser that shot little propeller discs, comic books like Richie Rich, and who knows what. I remind her to this day of my loss 30+ yrs ago. No telling how many hundreds $ I lost in that yard sale so she could get a few dollars, and to "get it out of the house". Mothers arg! Oh well.
Wow, Dr. Helena Russell has put on some weight. Heh. My brother and I used to have this. It was great but it was completely out of scale with Moonbase Alpha and the rest of the line.
i had one of these when i was a kid , i also had a die cast freight eagle and a transport model kit .

Like so many others, I actually had this very toy as a kid. My brother and I kept playing with this, taking it apart. Of all the things I remember having the most fun with was the wench with the grappling hook ( I think it had a grappling hook or just a hook) that you showed in this vid. It had so many parts that popped out and snapped in place, spent hours just taking it apart and putting back together. It fell apart eventually, but it was a great toy.
This is a great little piece of film. Thanks for posting. A pal of mine has one and I have another pal who owns a genuine real deal EAGLE from SPACE:1999. He loves this toy and always asks my other buddy about it. I once asked "Why are you so crazy for the toy when you have the real one from the show?" He replied "Yeah I know but the Mattel one has the little compartments and the guys that you can take out and put back in!" I guess this is a testament to a truly cool 1970s toy! Thanks again!
I remember my friend had one of these as a kid, but it was because he had an older brother. I wanted one so badly, but by the time I started getting toy spaceships Star Wars had taken of the market. I also had the Laser gun & some action figures. I really wanted one of the communicators with the mini TV! I only saw ONE of those in real life, A kid brought it on the bus and was showing it off to everybody & I was jellous! lmao!
@darthsideous1968 yeah, me and my brother use to drag ours down the road behind riding our bikes and we would throw the millennium falcon off the roof of the house into the pool.
@schmoborama Back then we didn't care man. As a kid, your attention span wanes after 30 minutes. That's when you get restless and creative with your Eagle 1. Especially watching to opening credits where it showed one spiraling down to it's destruction. I had to re-inact that scene of course! Growing up with ADHD was challenging for my parents no doubt. I'm sure the action figures and accessories fell victim to either our dog or mom with her thorough vacuuming sessions. Wasted youth.
