  • JA desmontei o motor do meu mais rápido e montei mais rapido!

  • did they have to loose/fasten the top engine bolt

  • ok thats cool for a motor that only had hand tight bolts but why dont they set the record with a daily driver with all the bolts tightened to spec

  • I think I saw a trail of oil in the floor, after the car drove, did you?

  • @jpv1980 no and if there was it most likely was spilled when they wore taking in out

  • pfft i was changing motors quicker than that in a gravel drive way at thirteen years old lol

  • @5baddogs shut up you couldnt get the hood open that quick

  • @way2easy2love naah for real shit brick ive had a railbuggy since i was teen and can swap them blind folded i bet..in a gravel drive way on less

  • Thats insane !

  • hahaha no joke those bolts must have been almost fully loose. A Beetle engine takes no time to take the engine out but thats stupid

  • LoL, the engine mount bolts wasnt tightened.

  • How would you get the body looking that shiny on an old beetle?

  • @ph03n1xamb1t work on it, and not be a degenerate and have a passion for it...

  • @MyLifeRSC

    ?

  • No tools? How tight are those bolts exactly....

  • anything ur not good at?.... revolutionary war anyone?

  • gotta love that little car.

  • Talk about flat rate.

  • Uploader: lookup YouTube tags for stretching to proper aspect ratio

  • @casemods Cheers for that!

  • Contrasts slightly to the Mercedes A class, where the entire body has to be taken off the chassis just to get to the starter motor, costing over £1000 for the job..

  • bettle finest car loooooooooooool

  • Bullsh*t what happened to undoing the bolts with spanners for example undoing the reabox bolts and doing them back up woul take a minute or more alone.

  • It takes four hours just to change the spark plugs in my Impala!

  • Cool! Now that was fast!

  • much fastest watch?v=te48ucoEvFI

  • They should have shown that the car actually worked BEFORE the record attempt.

  • Dude what is the top speed of a beetle of this year model?

  • @DDFJ1230 dont know that model but mine's 160 km top speed, enough for a car like this.

  • I wish VW would bring back this type of engineering again just so we wouldn't have to spend thousands of dollars trying to get all the misc. clutter fixed they put in their cars today. What happened to simplicity? I sure miss the rear mounted engines too! To a true consumer like myself who looks for that simplicity in a car, being safe in a vehicle is the last thing on my mind. I look at efficiency and coolness and the VW Beetle was all that and more.

  • @fitzpatrickgf This is totally correct. That is why I am starting to seriously look for a Super Beetle with the 1600 engine and 4-speed (no auto stick, please!).

The Beetle is so quirky, with it's air-cooling, boxer engine layout, being rear-engined, and making an unmistakable "clicking" sound as it drives along. It also exudes a certain Teutonic cool, being engineered by Dr. Porsche himself.

I WILL own one very soon.

Fuck the water-cooled VWs, they are overcomplicated, overpriced JUNK!!!

  • And they always say it takes a day if I bring the car in for inspection ...

  • I see SOMETHING on the floor. I do hear the engine start up, but look on the floor on the driver side. I see a stream of FUEL!!!

  • I see SOMETHING on the floor. I do hear the engine start up, but look on the floor on the driver side. I see FUEL!!!

  • I do hear the engine start up, but look on the floor on the driver side. I see FUEL!!!

  • @rastomas that's kinda obvious, they unplugged the fuel lines and some of it fell while the engine was out. the same for tranny oil probably

  • One of the greatest vehicles ever designed

  • @gtchamp7 Goddamned straight.

Back when VWs were actually good cars.

  • so junk...the motor only has 4 bolts to take it out...with experience i can see that...try that with a V8 or any other motor, hah yeah right

  • So they forget heaterbox cabling and heater pipes. And also they forgot the cooling plates in the engine bay. So what? This is still fricking fast! Takes me about 25 to 30 minutes on my type 2 camperbus to take out.

  • bogus. I like how everything is already loose and the car rolls of the ramps. Have the average joe drive a beetle off the street and try this. I guarantee it won't happen. These engines can be taken out in short time but this one would probably fall out the back after a couple miles

  • cool

  • I put the engine into my Baja in 34 minutes today on my lunch hour, then removed it after work in 12:45. Fair enough, remember this is a Baja with no bumper or rear shroud, but, yes, very easy. By the way, the only tools I used were one 17 mm wrench for the engine bolts and my leatherman tool's flat screwdriver blade to disconnect the fuel line and throttle cable.

  • the best machine germani

  • lol what?

It need more time to take off my pants than these guys need to replace an entire engine... xD

  • @TayouJin agree with you mate!.... now on some cars you have to disassemble half engine just to get to the starter and replace it :S Heil Volks Wagen!

  • This is bogus, there is now way this was done in real time as shown. There is either some trick involved or it has been edited in some way. i have removed and installed many VW engines, and there is a lot more to disconnect and reconnect than in this video...

  • @gmd1417

What? Fuel line, throttle cable, ignition wire to the coil, two voltage regulator wires, you're gone......

  • @TayouJin I know...

    why...?

  • not one bolt removed or installed

  • @TayouJin Its a crapping shame, it was so well made...

  • thast just insane O.O

  • no oil or gas leeking ?

  • This makes me want to get a vw bug. Lol

  • @TechTipsForYou

Do it, the strange vibration is the road btw....

  • Hell you cant hardly change an air filter in 15 minutes on a modern car !

  • @222billp Can a person even change an air filter in a modern car without a mechanic, or without voiding your warranty

  • @gtrefghuk Theyre normally under 3-4 clamps so you can service it within 2-5 minutes

  • @222billp

you could do it in like 5...you just pop the hood, unclip the stock air intake housing and replace the filter

  • @Jaesango More like 10-30 seconds. It's one of the easiest jobs in the world.

  • Is the Type 3 fast back as simple as this??

  • Heres a tip. Ask these Guys to come over someone you dont take there engine out.

  • it used to take me 5 minutes alone whit out short cuts like untied screws previously and lift the car and I was 12 years old my opinion is this 3 guys are cheaters also they never start the car they just push the car out the rams they don't deserve any kind of title or record

  • I'm sure the factory service manual called for more than " finger tight" on the engine studs.

  • @elebeu that or he has some gnarly ass callous fingers!

  • *punches someone* PUNCH BUGGY!

  • They are cheating som parts are missing. Exampel The hoses to the heater channels is missing. It should be a plate to the back of the car thats missing.

  • Oh1 these guys are ozzies, maybe thats why. Ozzies dont play with Volkswagens.....

  • This is BULLSHIT!...... The car is already up on ramps!!!??.........FOUR GUYS!!!!!?? C'MON!!!! and these guys are German! Check out old engine pull contests from BugIns past if you'ld like to see how it's really done...... in the US.

  • please check my vw home page and other cool projects i have made incl monster bike , my engine took me a bit longer to install but to be honist by myself it took like 10mins to fit lol

  • Now thats a proper race car. Just when the engine is failing pulling it into the box old engine out new one in and of you go agin :D

  • en primera son mecanicos profecionales autorizados por vw, el que conose el coche sabe que en poco tiempo puede bajar un motor teniendo todas las herramientas necesarias 15 minutos es mucho amigoen menos de 5 debes poder bajarlo y subirlo

  • They never screwed loose the 4 nuts holding it to the gearbox, it was already loose. So this is a little fake :(

  • @NorthernResistance It's a '76, as said in the video.

  • @NorthernResistance

Report it to the GWR administration board.

    You may get a medal.

  • 1200 cc engine? doesnt he mean 1300? or is that bug a 55 or older? t looks like a 66 to me.

  • @LolEYEHasFun It's a '76 so it should be a 1600cc.

  • i got mine down in :48sec while i was playing my psp.

  • I got mine down to 21 minutes :D

  • Love the paint job

  • Whats with the audience being behind the bullet proof glass, in case they shoot the mechanics?

  • @lateboy4 In case the mechanics made a mistake. It would suck to break the record but have a dropped wrench thrown out by the fan belt kill a ten-year-old. Would kinda put a damper on the celebration party afterwards. This is also why they don't let customers in work areas in auto shops. It's rare but every year, world-wide, a small number of people are injured or even killed by tools and screws dropped into running engines.

  • Maybe in case they throw a rod! Super funny Dude. :)

  • A machinist I knew was driving his vw from Amarillo tx to Lubbock Tx and the engine valves burned up. He took the engine out the engine apart hitched a ride into town got the parts went back to the car and did a valves on the side of the road. He drove the car years after that.

  • @kingmike40 yea but in one minute and 10 seconds?

  • Right. Yea Yea, great job guys. Looked like it rolled down the ramps to me. The Germans probably installed right though. I mean, like, you hooked up all the heater crap and everything correctly? Right. Shit isn't, like, finger tight. TV sucks.

  • Try doing that in a 300zx TT

  • @specvtypepnoy I wish.. I have an NA. I was planning an RB25 swap, but the VG should be cheap and able..

  • @specvtypepnoy Supra 2JZ :P

  • @specvtypepnoy Or a Bently Continetal GT :-/

  • @specvtypepnoy try doing that with a bugatti veron ss

  • thats nothing i did mine in 1.02 by my self, ok 1 hour and 2 mins dame the starter motor bolt just could not get to it!!!!!

  • that is lame, this is much faster: watch?v=te48ucoEvFI&NR=1

  • Wow if it was only that easy with other cars

  • Impressive. I wonder what the record is for an "unprepared" engine swap in a car that's driven 100,000 miles - Rusted screws in the fan shroud and all. Plus reconnecting everything properly, like the accelerator cable and the alternator cables.

Of course there's no standard way to test that, but I'll bet it could still be done in 10 minutes by experienced guys.

  • I call bullshit, have you ever tried to to get the accelerator cable through the fan shround?, that's a 5 mintues job. Other than that, maybe.

  • they have the throttle set to a certain point so they dont use the accelerator cable

  • I'd imagine it's easy to do as your lifting the motor back in... but I do agree. I've had to replace a cable twice so far I hate it! I just hope my clutch cable holds up.

  • 1234meandu I agree. But they can set the throttle, Though the tin is what takes me so long.

Munroman That is the dumbest shit ever heard why put a Chevy 6.0 V8 in a Rotary Car that is dumb. A rotary car is better than a V8. So why the change from 13B to V8.

Im not bashing you but that switch is kinda lame.

  • meet you on the VC chat

  • For the previous record there were two cars and they swapped the engines between them.

  • OK Steve and Adrian. How fast can you put a Chev 6.0 Litre V8 in an RX-7 FD3S that currently has a 13B wanker motor?

  • MY FAV CAR???? VW, OF COURSE!!!!...ANY MODEL...THE OLDER, THE BETTER!! i ONCE OWNED A '59 MODEL, WORKS PERFECT!!!!!

  • The car could have rolled 5 meters off that ramp.

  • So I suppose you're deaf to the sound of a vdub flat four then, dickhead?

  • what happen to the real engine pull at the bugin's

they had to drive it back jack it up , pull and return try that

  • tbird pimp ...the exhaust and motor are one unit.......just a fuel line and simple accelerator linkage to deal with....gotta admit the beetles kool ive got a 69...but still love my 66 caddy best ;)

  • Comment removed

  • That´s all attached to the engine and connected via clips...

  • hahaha wow. i dont really "care" about vw either but back in the day one of these was driven a million miles just to prove how reliable it was

  • It's not necessary remove the starter. I think they only use two of the four main bolts in the case.

  • the bottem 2 are usually studs.

  • to remove a volkswagen engine, 4 bolts, 1 wire to the coil. 1 fuel line, throttle cable.

  • you forgot about the two wires to the generator and two heating core cables

  • same deal though i never have to worry bout the heater cables cause i never run them on the buggies i make

  • and the alt/generator wires but I guess it doesn't need them to run so long as the battery is charged

  • I wasn't hinking of a beetle world record taking a 3main out of a subaru by myself. They are mounted like an old chevy, but still has some benefits as a beetle. light weight. the hands only stuff, what was that about? real world needs wrenches, or is that what they meant by hands only?

  • It used to take me alone 15 minutes to take it out and 15 again to put it back using simple jack and ramps.

  • I think the Beetle was designed to allow one person to exchange an engine in one hour, so if you are doing it in 30 minutes you are doing very well. Good work.

  • @garagecrap try taking one out of a fiberglass dune buggy. i think i could do it in under a minute by myself.

  • Comment removed

  • @J0A0123 by yourself? lol

  • Someone should let these guys know they could shave even MORE time off thier record if they used the new hydraulic jacks that pump upwards with both the up and down action of the handle. Not just the down pump. You can buy them at most any autoparts stores these days. It jacks upward when you lift the handle AND when you pump down on the handle.

  • just keep another motar handy if it dosent start change it

  • I've got a Crown school bus with a blown...

  • they cheated if you look at the other video they raised the car manually and they pulled then engine back further than them that's messed up

  • ...they didn't "cheat" if Guiness was standing RIGHT THERE watching and governing the whole thing...which they were.

  • I wish Type 4 bus engines were this easy to take out.

  • Easy to do actually. Done it is 5 minutes alone in my Ghia.

  • Do you see the latest issue of Hot Vw's this month (June09)? Air-Condition your Ghia aftermarket! I know it's not a first but they have simplified it like never before! All years, everything! It's awesome!!!!!

  • we need more of this people in mexico!!!

    XD

  • wow awersome video!

  • estoooooo es una mamadaaaa los cables del carburador los cables dela bobina ke la marcha ni apretaron tornillos ni nada no sirveeeee

  • I took my first bug motor out recently; under one hour. Believe it.

  • estos tipos la tienen re clara

  • So all the bolts were loose? Greased and just waiting to be taken out? Hoses had no clips on, no heater exchanger joining clips, so technically you couldn't drive it down the road??? Its impressive but where's the hard work in undoing 4 bolts as quick as you can to remove the engine??? To me thats not impressive and i expect alot of vw owners aren't either.

  • Oh, I see it now, I was wrong, the protective shell is attached to the engine. It´s visible when they pull the engine out.

  • so it will take just a few minutes for someone to steal my Beetle´s engine!...There is only a detail not shown here..Beetles have a shell in the bottom that protects the engine, from water. The car shown here, seems not to have that shell.

  • My Dad's friend who has worked on Vw all his life can take one out in about 25min taking his time! vw forever!!!!!!

  • i have a vw bus and my record just me is 2 hrs hahaha lol

  • Ok, now if only Chrysler, Ford, or Chevy would take this concept, and I don't know.....ACTUALLY USE IT... Instead of it taking a FULL weekend to change a freakin' motor!!!!

  • Yeah but then they wouldn't be big, and they couldn't have as much torque as they do. I mean, its cool to be able to do it really fast, but not always the best. VW'S RULE!!!

  • i have to take my 1300cc vw bug enguine out soon ... i dont think it will be that quick unfortunatly

  • rofllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll!!!!!!!! that is crazy what if u took ur car to the shop and they bring it out in like 2 min and they r like okay your done. id be like wtf seriously lol

  • I be you didnt do crap get it back and fix it now LMAO!

  • Wow I did a motor swap in my Chevy truck but I took a few months LOL.

  • I average about half an hour on my second try :)

  • I can do io it in 2 days if i am lucky...got to practice

  • 1 minutes - good to know when I brake down on my way back to home...

    :-)

  • thats not half bad :D

  • some parts was ready in machine side..there is little parts only that parts take 20 munite...its not completely change ...it was ready. they all pull out the other thing and they only open 3 thing.. also it is easy to pull out the machine ı can do it but it takes minimum 35 munite with all things and parts..

  • what will happen when the beetle eventually dwindles and goes extinct?

  • it will never go extinct

  • I'll save em first.

  • Extinct? Have you seen what happens when you try to purposefully destroy a Beetle? It just carries on and on and on until you get bored and leave it to continue on it's way ;)

Now if you leave it to rust, on the other hand...

  • beetle will never go extinct!

  • hey wel done Steve and gang it was good to watch

  • easier to take a vw engine out than in a lawnmower lol. gotta love the simplicity

  • awesome

  • impresionante.......

  • i love old vw's! =)
