Great job.... I also starting play again! I was a teacher for Milton Mann in Fullerton and Pomona in the late 60's. Just refreshed the Da Vince and bought a Roland FR accordion and love it! My mother invested in the Da Vinci but the deal was 3 hours of practice a day. Seemed like a lot! Mother is now gone, but I now play 3 to 4 hours a day and love it!
I took lessons from Henry Ellis at the Milton Mann Studio in Fullerton, California, in the 1950's. I hated to practice but I loved my teacher, Mr.Henry Ellis. He gave me a figurine of a peasant girl with reddish hair playing a little accordion--I still have it. I hated to practice. But I loved my accordion, a Concerto. I replaced it recently, and started to play again--I love remembering the intricacies that used to be so easy--practicing is fun now. Thank you Mr. Ellis--you were wonderful.

I took accordion lessons from a Thomas Tchaikovsky at the Milton Mann Studio in La Habra, California from 1955-1959. In my progression, I had reached the stage where my parents were confronted with buying me an Electric Accordion so I could advance. They declined to make the investment so I lost interest. I remember the piece you played, but I played a different rendition. Thanks for the memory.
Thanks for the comment. I went to Milton Mann in Garden Grove from 1971 to 1976. Had several teachers. Mr. Larrocca starting out and then Mr. Fiecho later as I advanced in skills and Mr. Dino at the end of my Milton Mann era. Met a lot of kids in those years and had a blast. Remember Teachers Training, Da Vinci Band/s and playing at local events. Lugging the heavy thing to and fro and the brief case of music was what I dreaded most. Enjoyed playing though.
That was great! Which Studio did you go to? I went to the milton mann accordion studio in Chatsworth...or I think it was there...the San Fernando Valley...from 1965 to 1976....1 hour private lesson every wednesday evening cost 5.00 bucks. Mr. Dastoli was my teacher, he was such a comic and the best teacher.... I love my accordion so much.
I would love to find a Contellini...that 12 bass student accordion. sm version of the Contello...looked like a tiny Da Vinci. Da Vinci Club ROCKED!
Wow! Great Job! I sold my Da Vinci many years ago, but sometimes wish I still had it. I too took lessons at Milton Mann Studios in Santa Ana from 1971 - 1977.
Very nice job! I recently brought my Da Vinci out of the closet as well. Mine is a Da Vinci CG20C and it's about 32 years old. It does need a professional cleaning, but it does sound pretty good after eight years of inaction and another 20 years before that. I attended The Milton Mann Studios as well, from 1976 to 1981, when it closed for business.
@mcossota Thanks for the reply! My skills are returning and I have played to a couple of small audiences the past couple of months. On April 23, 2010, there is a fundraiser for the family that lost their children on the 5 fwy on April 12,2010. I'll be playing at that event. My friend knows the mother who was injured. The event is in Whittier, Ca., The Sierra Education Center. Wish me luck.
SUPER!!! :)
