X-2 sucked. they downgraded the graphics from 10 and turned una into an airhead. the morph for riku was not too much but for yuna that was just NOT right.

@chesterlim15 The best one is the 3rd Final Fantasy (US release, actually the 6th release in Japan.) If you're looking for a connection from one game to the next... there isn't.

There are no connections between the games. (With the exception of FFX which got a followup game called FFX-2) Where you start depend on what systems you have. If you still have you're PSONE I'd start in FFVII then play VIII, IX, then move over to FFX on PS2 then XII and march 9th FFXIII will be out on X-Box 360 and PS3. (I skipped FFXI because it's an MMO.)
