  • Great advice and very useful tutorial. You could do with a better video editor and cinematographer though. The video is a little shaky and not that pleasant to watch!

  • how much earns a sport photographer?

  • Part 2 is better than part 1.

  • surprised his lappy wasnt a mac. LOL

  • I would like to know where I can get this "pad" for the monopod? the monopod itself is already purchased! :D

  • It would be helpful to tell the name of the tripod to the audiance :) I guess it is a NEOPOD N 84 but not sure. ;)

  • Jeez... It's a clip from 2008, he says he uses a MkIII and a II.. And stop whinning about saying the wrong specs for the 70-200.. Instead try and learn.

  • canon or nikon for sports!!

  • @ihateyaacov Nikon. They have better focusing.

  • canon or nikon for sports!!

  • canon or nikon for sports!!?!?!?!

  • @ihateyaacov NIKON. . hands down, Both the D3 and 3s are superior to anything Canon has. ISO performance in HS gyms is the means test. Also, combined w/ a 200 f2 and you are set. Of course, Canon users may not agree :)

  • nikon d90 good for sports photography or are canons better?

  • @ihateyaacov if you can not afford a Nikon D300(s) go with Canons 50D because of the fps

  • Does anyone know the name of the UDMA card reader?

  • what does a converter do?

  • if you like to make any good photo JUST DO WHAT THIS GUY TELL YOU TO DO

  • That lens is massive.

  • free camera bodies? : D sign me up!

  • Can't believe that I watched the whole video of 9 minutes.. Sure is interesting for an amateur like me. lol :D

  • @JoostyBoy i know that is so true i can be on here for an hour watching others camera gear :)

  • is that the 70-200 IS? or not

  • seems to... you have 4 switches on it... AF/MF, MFD, IS ON/OFF, IS Mode

  • noo, the 70-200 is much smaller.

  • no, lens size

  • Are you really a photography!!

When you are showing off your lens you said you have a 17 to 35 lens.

Canon does not make a 17 to 35 lens. Did you steal the equipment ?

    Canon makes a 17 to 40 and 16 to 35 !

  • it'n not quite correct, because canon produced a 17-35 2.8. it's the same age of the 28-70 2.8 ... still not in production but very very good lenses.

17-35 2.8 has been replaced now from the "top-of-choice" 16-35 2.8 and from the "economically choice" 17-40 4.

    cheers

  • before the 16-35 mark one you got a 17-35 f2.8 and no 17-40. before that a 20-35 f2.8

  • wow this guy's really cool, I'd like to meet him one day. Also some Excellent gear hes got there!

  • I detect some sarcasm regarding the Mark III's quality from Mr. How. Strange that everyone complains about them but it's still the standard sports photographer's camera right now.

  • I'd hardly say it's the standard. I see more 4 year old Mark IIn's than I do Mark III's almost anywhere I go.

  • lucky lucky guy :)

    very talented too

  • dude you are pro photographer how can u servive with a PC!??! they are not the right computer for photo editing

  • its 70-200 not 80-200

  • incorrect, he is talking about one of the previous models of that lens, which was 80-200mm

  • @WhiterDeath:

That's the 70-200mm f/2.8L iS. The 80-200mm f/2.8 lens was black. (Check Wikipedia) The70-200mm f/2.8L came out in 1995, the IS version in 2001. This clip is most definitely post-2001, given that he has a 1D Mk II.

The simplest explanation is that he made a mistake.

  • @gslusher

Seeing how his Dodgers credential was for 2008 it's definitely post-2001.

  • he says I use a 1D Mark !!! and a Mark II

  • he has 2 1D Mark III-s

  • did you watch the video to the end cause he uses 2 1D mark III-s and in the end he says 70-200 2.8 he did a mistake in the beginning

  • @gslusher It's 2008 - when he's showing his credentials, they say year 2008 on them :)

  • @gslusher

It's wierd cause Zack Arias always makes the same mistake with his 70-200.

  • @gslusher did you really say check wikipedia? wikipedia can be changed by anyone with a computer. Never backup what you say with check wikipedia

  • whats a monopod?

  • a tripod - minus 2 legs.

  • I really appreciate it for making an effort for this video. Nice gear!!!

  • Fetthunderdome, one cannot say they "suck". ALL teleconverters affect image quality one way or another. Many lenses accept extenders very nicely, like the 400 2.8 IS. Others, like lenses with less sharpness and contrast, accept the 1.4x well, but really comprimise image quality with the 2x teleconverter. Like Harry mentions, use the teleconverters sparingly, as they do negatively affect image quality, especially sharpness and contrast.

  • canon TC completely sucks and destroy the already poor sharpness of canon lenses.

  • That's a load of bunk. You obviously know nothing about Canon lenses or their TCs.

  • if you have ever worked with a L telephoto lens you would not talk like that about canon. I am super stoked about the imagequality of the L lenses! the 2xtk II is good, in combination with a 300 2.8 IS for example it´s awesome!!!

  • i prefer monopods wich have a head wich can move up and down. for bikes they're better

  • link to this monopod pls

  • Hi Harry, Do you recommoned a canon 30D with your lens 400. 2.8? Thanks

  • Any current Canon EOS digital camera can fit to use on this lens, its heavy peace of lens but who's gonna hand held a 400mm lens? even Shwarzeneger will get cramps hand holding this. Anyhow yes you can use any eos dslr on this lens with a tripod or a monopod though.

  • if you can afford a 400 2.8 dude buy a 1D even if second hand mark II. the 30D won't justify that lens.

  • Lenses are more important that the cameras you mount on them.

  • Very well stated.

  • that 400 2.8 is a massive peice of glass

  • Hey people...

He does not own that equipment, Getty Images own it. Do you think Getty lets every photographer keep the gear after letting them go for whatever reason?

If you worked for Mercedez Benz and left, do you think you would be driving away in a Benz? c'mon now people.

  • Ya they all have getty stickesr on them.

  • Actually some company like Getty allowing to loan the camera gears to the photographers who work for them, taking it bit by bit from their pay check until they paid it off.

  • holy snap, he gets the cameras from getty, nice!

  • What do you think about the Body Mount Supporter ( CameraEQM ) when doing sport photography for your heavy lenses ?

  • Do you keep the gear after you have resigned or quit the job?

    plz press reply button

    thanks!

  • no they don't

  • He said the bodies were "issued to" him , so I would assume yes. If you're freelance and own your own stuff you keep it obviously.

  • uh does he just put his camera back into the bag with the lens mount open?

  • How are you able to get passes to photograph for events?

I usually network with people and I'm able to slip right threw without having a pass, but just incase I'm on an assignment and I don't have connections for that event, how would I be able to receive one?

    Thanks and nice vid!

  • Every major event normally has a press-officer or PR. You'd need to contact them. Beware however, they normally only allow photographers who can bring some publication to the event. Depending on the size of the event, depends on which publication they see fit.

  • in order to get a press pass you need a news paper or wire service to back you up and say that you are covering the event for them.

  • awsome, straight to the point. nice

  • Do anyone know what type of Velbon momopod he is using??

  • I think is Velbon Sherpa Pro Pod CF-7 Monopod !?

  • Sick gear! I may be able to afford the bag or monopod, lol :-) j/k

Actually plan to add the 70-200mm f/2.8 to my collection next :-)

  • Well, the bag and monopod combine for half the cost of a used 70-200 ....so maybe not.

I bought the Airport Security V2 a few months ago and it was $380.00

  • im getting the 70-200mm 2.8 also. are you goin IS or non?

  • You lose a stop with teleconverters? I always thought that they cut the maximum aperture in half; so 2.8 becomes 5.6, 4 becomes 8 etc. Or have I understood wrong?

  • I'm not sure what you mean by

"You lose a stop with teleconverters? I always thought that they cut the maximum aperture in half"

Those two statements contradict themselves. a 1.4 converter will cut your max. aperture from 2.8 to 4. You are losing a stop of light. If your max aperture on the lens is 4, you would go to 5.6.

    Hope that helps!

  • the cut depends on the converter:

with the 1.4x converter your max. aperture will be multiplied by 1.4 (2,8 becomes 4 etc.), a 2x teleconverter would make a 2,8 a 5,6 max aperture.

  • Did he not have a head on the monopod??

  • No. You screw it right into the monopod/tripod lens mount on the camera. You can add one, but most people don't.

  • Harry,

Is it true you are now shooting Nikon D3/D300 after problems with your 1dm3 focusing???

How do you like the Nikon compared to Canon?

  • Probably. He did say "latest quote 'greatest' Canon" bodies. Safe to assume he had AF problems before shooting this video because he doesn't seem to thrilled to have these so called "latest and 'greatest' Canon cameras."

  • Thanks for the info.Very helpful.

  • what kind of monopod was that?

  • velbon

  • can u tell me which version of velbon it is please ? :)

  • i hear he throws away his lenses after each shoot to get fresh ones

  • i really doubt he would throw away $1000's of dollars lenses away after one shoot..

either he'd sell them or give them to someone else.

  • lol

  • do u get to keep the camera equipment for good?
