Just read the book Born or Bred & have to say that his childhood was such a troubled one. He went to numerous 'specialists' who couldn't give answers to his parents, his father spent his whole life trying to keep him on track but would advise anyone to read the book & see just how troubled Bryant was. No one in their right mind would convert a fully auto to a semi auto as fully autos go for 30 to 60 thousand dollars. It is almost impossible to find a fully auto that has been converted to semi. Most of the time semi autos have been coverted to full auto. Back to my statment that in Australia you could not actually purchase M16s.
Well those rifles and pretty much everything the military has was built by and paid for by civilians. And furthermore the lack of this crime in NZ and the fact that you can buy these weapons should be clear to you, but obviously is not. M16s are not semi-auto only, your lack of knowledge is not surprising. M16s is just the military designation for a particular AR15, including the full auto or burst modes. AK47s are also fully auto and is only avalible in NZ (where there is less crime).

@ProfessorTiNfOiL To convert an Semi Auto to full auto you would need to mill and machine the lower reciever to make it to be able to adapt a full auto trigger group, and drill a hole through the side of the reciver to put inplace the full auto sear and sear pin. Then you would need to swap out the bolt carrier for a full auto bolt carrier. Yet you say that the rifles are exactly the same and the selecter switch was "stuck" in semi auto.
And again i did not twist anything, you said that M16s were legal but M16s are fully auto or burst capable rifles and was NOT legal. As i said before, M16 is a military designation and therefore had to be built to mil spec and part of that specification was that it was fully automatic or burst depending on varients. Plus it would have to be manufactured under contract with the military. His rifle did not meet any of this requirements and was not made under contract. It was not an M16.

It is harder than getting a pre 86 full automatic rifle in the US. And centrefires are a completely different story and basicly only limited for government.

I love the fact that police had the audacity to stop on the way to have a BBQ (FACT). It eventually took 6.5hrs for a PROPER police response to arrive. Despite the fact there was a cop shop 1hr away. I know its not the Troops fault because they were only following orders, but you can imagine how unprotected the community they are paid to protect felt??? 6.5hrs not including the 2 unarmed police women who arrived by heliopter. Just query that 1 fact alone and we have a case. Gutless?? I doubt it.

BULLSHIT! Bryant was in the holiday lodge before the first cop was on the scene. The two local cops were called to an incident (Faked I might add) 30 minutes before the first shot was fired. A bit too bloody convenient! Bryant's mother was taken into the Hobart Police Station... 3 hours BEFORE any of this went down. Bryant was involved sure enough, but there was a lot more going on in the background.

Just read the book Born or Bred & have to say that his childhood was such a troubled one. He went to numerous 'specialists' who couldn't give answers to his parents, his father spent his whole life trying to keep him on track but would advise anyone to read the book & see just how troubled Bryant was. Its no excuse for what happened of course, but is an insight into his life which became too much for his Dad who suicided in despair. If only the help was there things might have been different :(

I don't know how a mentally handicapped person can double tap so many people in the head with so few rounds. As a professional marksman it seems so unlikely. Either it was the biggest fluke ever recorded or he didn't do it alone or at all. When you compare the extreme accuracy within the cafe as compared to the Seascape Lodge where he failed to hit anything after firing over 100 rounds. @ProfessorTiNfOiL Firstly, in the US after 86 no full auto can be produced for the civilian market. And secondly all AK and AR varients were produced as semi-autos. No one in their right mind would convert a fully auto to a semi auto as fully autos go for 30 to 60 thousand dollars. It is almost impossible to find a fully auto that has been converted to semi. Most of the time semi autos have been coverted to full auto. Back to my statment that in Australia you could not actually purchase M16s.

Well those rifles and pretty much everything the military has was built by and paid for by civilians. And furthermore the lack of this crime in NZ and the fact that you can buy these weapons should be clear to you, but obviously is not. M16s are not semi-auto only, your lack of knowledge is not surprising. M16s is just the military designation for a particular AR15, including the full auto or burst modes. AK47s are also fully auto and is only avalible in NZ (where there is less crime).

And the M16 is an AR varient, not the other way around. As an military designation it was built to mil specs which required full auto or burst. capability. A semi auto AR is not stuck in the semi auto position, it can move from safe to fire, but does not have any parts alowing it to fire in full auto.

No, i did not say AR converted to automatic is not AR, i was saying that you try to bend the truth to paint a picture that full autos were legal here. No one in their right mind you convert a full auto M16 to a semi auto as it would cost money for them to do it and will lower the value from 60,000 dollars to 1,000 dollars. M16s are fully automatic and were not allowed in Australia. They are similar but you require changing out alot of components and machineing the reciever to make it auto

@ProfessorTiNfOiL To convert an Semi Auto to full auto you would need to mill and machine the lower reciever to make it to be able to adapt a full auto trigger group, and drill a hole through the side of the reciver to put inplace the full auto sear and sear pin. Then you would need to swap out the bolt carrier for a full auto bolt carrier. Yet you say that the rifles are exactly the same and the selecter switch was "stuck" in semi auto.

As i said before, M16 is a military designation and therefore had to be built to mil spec and part of that specification was that it was fully automatic or burst depending on varients. Plus it would have to be manufactured under contract with the military. His rifle did not meet any of this requirements and was not made under contract. It was not an M16.

@ProfessorTiNfOiL AR15s being built to an semi auto state cannot be changed "back" to an fully auto state as it does not have an full auto trigger group, nor does it have the proper reviever space to fit one in, it does not have a full auto sear, nor does it have a hole for a full auto sear pin in the reciever, and lastly it does not have a full auto bolt carrier which is required for the auto sear to drop the hammer once the rifle is in battery. Read my previous comment for the M16.

Semi Automatics in australia is barely legal and that is only considering rimfires, you would need to be filthy rich to be able to get that permit and afford a rifle legally. It is harder than getting a pre 86 full automatic rifle in the US. And centrefires are a completely different story and basicly only limited for government.

I feel so sorry for the people killed and their families but for some reason I also feel bad for Bryant. I watched an episode of Most Evil today and they talked about him, they described the crime as after Helen Harveys, an older women who cared for him, death and his fathers apparent suicide Byrant was lashing out at the world for abandoning him. I'm not trying to defend him or justify what he did or anything of that means.

The way the police and media handled this case has fueled the fire for all the theorists out there.
