  • One of my favorites...

  • Great song.

  • THE most underrated song off of "War". And "War" itself is very underrated.

  • Please , play this song live during the next tour ! so undereated !

  • Epic..I loved this band right from the get go..I had october when it first came out..I love that album..Peaceout

  • this song makes me thing of my wife, the first person who i fell in love with

  • one of the best u2 songs definitely

  • i personally consider this song better than sunday bloody sunday

  • You don't have to like Bono, you just have to like the music and the message. And this is quite a message don't you think? And a frickin ridiculous vocal on this song, RAW emotion at it's best...you have to give him that.

Is there nothing left? Is honesty what you want!?

  • I went off a railway bridge in a mkI Ford Escort, back in 1984 listening to this track. lol

  • Con este disco me hice U2 maniaco... me acuerdo que llegó a mi por un intercambio con un amigo en la prepa, yo le di un cassette de Milli Vanilli... vaya cosas, el mundo a partir de ahi es otro

  • perfect song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Like a simile, the Saints, once on The Skids, are coming October 2011.

  • Now, I really don't like Bono, but this is one of the best songs I've ever heard. U2 was a great band back in the day, and the drums on the end of this are a spiritual experience for me. It's like the ground and the sky opening up, and the final battle between Heaven and Hell is coming... I'm not even religious, but damn!

  • Best U2 song ever.

  • One of my favourite U2 albums

  • And does anyone know what Peter Rowan is up to these days ?

  • @84heroes1 Yeah but then again wasn't he still married to a certain fiery redhead (RIP) at the time...

  • Copying Off Of Coat Of Arms

  • War>>>Zooropa>>>No Line On The Horizon>>>The Joshua Tree>>>Zooropa>>>>Achtung Baby>>>How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb

  • 5 people were born without a good taste in music.

  • Crashed a MK2 Escort off a railway bridge to this in 1984,still have the scar from 8 stitches over my left eye after all these years!

  • Be that as it may, this is still the only U2 album I ever really liked.

  • this was the greatest U2 album ever,,,

  • Love that raw kick sound

  • @5oulPower ... but some of us like them all!

  • My god, Larry Mullen is one great fucking drummer. Every intro he does is magnificent.

  • Hi there, I just wanted to say hi, you commented on my main page a while back like 5 months ago and I just figured out that these comments didn’t post into my messages, lol. So I hope that all is well and if you are interested I have a few videos I posted with my testimony, be well and may Christ who is worthy of praise bless you beyond measure. Sincerely,

    Alex my testimony - watch?v=MT4ICH9W5d4

  • who is that kid on that album?

  • @psphaxs7 The boy on the cover is Peter Rowen (brother of Bono's friend, Guggi , and now a renowned Irish photographer). He's also in the cover of War and The best of 1980-1990. Hope I've helped you, I'm sorry for my poor english, I'm argentinean.

  • @Sjero99 Thanks man your awesome.

  • @Sjero99 - what poor English? On this little evidence it's perfect =)

  • @Sjero99 Good english. Its fine!:)

  • @Sjero99 argentina? wow. i love how music can bring together people from all over the world. U2 FOREVER!!

  • @Sjero99 Guggi is a 'renowned' Irish painter/artist -not a photographer, though I doubt he would be renowned if he wasn't a mate of Bono's because his art and his brains are shit in equal measure.

  • so fricky great,, o i loooove this joint!!!!!!

  • Very powerful song. This is my favorite by U2. I said "goodbye" to U2 after Joshua Tree. Just seems like the social commentary wasn't there anymore and I think the commentary was what made the band something great. The song "Lemon" was the turning point that made me believe that U2 was gone.

  • @Thalamos

I've hello and goodbye and hello again to U2 throughout. But War was the album back in '84(which was when I first heard it) that made me a lifelong U2 fan.

  • wow that drum solo at the end is so freaking amazing aklñsdjflñkfj

  • U2 YOU ARE THE BESTTTTTTTTTT

  • this drum beat is so strong...

  • Every single album u2 have done is awesome; sure their music changed but it had to. actung is one of their best; don't get stuck with some dogma in your head about their music being crap since joshua tree. there are such idiots in this world who say u2 this u2 that; fools

  • This is the best U2. The production is way too big and cheesy after this. They're best when their music is raw and stripped down.

  • u2 in the 80,s where amazing , buying a record , it felt reeal not like theses mp 3 , im getting old , first three albums for u2 where great

  • they really seemed to like the comsat angels

  • best album ever

  • Loved the first 3 albums.. they are genius!

  • U2 and Steve Lillywhite used to be synonymous in the early days. What happened to him?

  • This whole album is a drum masterpiece.

  • excelente cancion

  • UF is best album . JT is good . boy october and war are also good .

  • AmazinG!

  • I like this song

  • this is a song that everybody should press LIKE

  • fantastic !

  • This is just such a great album. It had a song for every mood I've ever felt.

  • PUDDI?

  • they still put out good music but the 80's were their best i think pop was their worst album

  • That kids face screams defiance.

  • yeah the only stuff of theirs I like after joshua tree is achtung baby. but war will always be one of my favorite albums.

  • This album/cd is unreal - my opinion is that this was key to there success - it was the 2nd tier songs that held our breathe till he next rec came out - while radio burnt out the hits.

  • Is honesty what you want? mmmmmm yes.... lol

    great song though.....

  • The Edge at his fucking best. Unbelievable song.

  • Best U2 song ever.

  • let the bells ring out...nah..let the drums ring out, larry in his prime..the outro of drums and edge is truly special, btw, listen to the b side of new years day..pete the chop, larry was and still is on a mission

  • the energy in this song is incredible

  • I lovelike this Song. xD

  • je retrouve l'année 83 REMEMBER LOVE IT!!!

  • totally agree...U2 is pre achtung baby....after that just a pop band...

  • just reading all the comments below, I totally agree that after Joshua Tree, they went too commercialised, and lost something. I haven't bought any of their albums post Joshua Tree, but I was their biggest fan before that, had near enough everything of theirs, love all of their early stuff. This has to be one of my favourite songs, with Surrender, Wire, An Cat Dubh, Into the Heart etc etc, I could go on and on, but you know what i mean lol. Brings back great memories of my teens xx

  • Check out the band BELIEVER, they do a kick-ass metal cover of this. Best U2 song ever.

  • That's the U2 sound I've always loved back then , think this was their top period

  • This is and always will be my favourite ever U2 song. Don't get me wrong I love many other tracks, but this one will always be my number 1 ! xx

  • @jjbncaa I think you're very right this is also my fav U2 song ever ever !!

  • youth, pain, hunger, and raw love == always fuel for greatness

  • See alot of comments around here. The Band on a whole is timeless. Even stuff after Rattle and Hum is decent, but nothing quite captures the nature of being a punk in Ireland circa 79-84 quite the way U2 did. The tribal beatings by LMJ on this track, and the album on a whole had a great animalistic energy to it. But re listen to everything, even Pop, and you will see that there is still plenty of good material. But the did lose their "edge" from what they were.

  • dear god, no one makes music anymore!!!!

  • I love this song. Oh what i would do to be able to see Bono sing this live. Boo, i hate being young. haha.

  • Wonderful song. War and The U Fire are the best records for me, utterly inspiring

  • I've explored almost every U2 album and page on YouTube... And everywhere I go I hear people say "This was their best album... Ah, how I wish they would make another one like this!". I go to Boy pages and that's what I hear. I go to War and Joshua Tree pages and it's also what I hear. I go to Achtung Baby and Pop pages and it's no different. I go to ATYCLB pages and... Well... You guessed it. My point: U2 has so many different eras. They have fans for every era. So appreciate them as they are.

  • @5oulPower

exactly! i remember hearing this album when it came out and it will always be my favorite album by U2, and fave album above all (and I listen to practically everything) U2 has been around for 30+ years, of course they are gonna chage their style. I can't imagine them still making music like this, and people still respecting U2, because face it, fans ( of any genre/band) are and will be judgmental about their fave bands. yes, this was a great moment in U2 history, but they moved on.

  • @sahbian yup. Wish some U2 fans would be more understanding. You can't expect a band to be stuck in the 80s for three decades eh? They moved on and I moved along with them... (Hey, I'm a huge U2 fan and I like every one of their albums... Except maybe Atomic Bomb lol. Hell... My whole family are U2 fans. XD)

  • @5oulPower Totally agree, some of their best material ever is on their last three albums, 'Original of the Species' is just jaw droppingly brilliant, 'Yahweh' - how many times can the same word be sang with so many different inflections and each time sound so inspiring.

Zooropa and Pop were however low points, they really lost their way with those two albums in my opinion.

  • @KenfromDublin yeah true... I didnt like ATomic Bomb as much as the other albums because IMO Atomic Bomb's tracks stand out on their own. Are brilliant on their own... But when put together, I don't feel cohesion. It doesnt feel... Complete. Kinda like I'm listening to a string of singles, albeit brilliant singles.

  • stunning song, simply dumbfounding how they put so much rage into it

  • go to 3:44...holy shit, amazing drums.

  • There is nothing better than the war album.. the lyrics, drums, bass, and guitar... U2 raw and at their best.. been a fan for 20 + years seen them over 25 times live and this era cant be touched.... lets hope they will touch the war era on the tour other than sunday bloody sunday and new years day.. could you imagine drowning man live... damnnnnn...

  • this album is wonderful..!

  • is there nothing left?

  • the drums on this track just want to kick the living daylights outta you.. very heavy sticks Mr Mullen.... for that, i thank you.

  • Comment removed

  • A stellar song, Whether you detest Bono or not.

  • WAR= my birth into recorded music appreciation. [My Dad already had me into 'live music']... truly STUNNING, this album; even more so NOW, almost 30 years later {++just got my vinyl back from durance vile[storage, with a friend], get what's the first piece of wax going on the turntable???}

  • Hi fans. been a fan since 1983. I've read the comments & I am glad I am not the only one who feels pre-achtung baby was their better stuff. the last 20 years U2 has put out albums but so few classics. I believe when Joshua Tree took off, U2 may have actually lost what they were looking for. I appreciate all the causes the band has supported but do you remember I will follow, pride, october, tomorrow, rejoice, surrender & unforgettable fire? oh I can forget 40 & bad. thanks guys.

  • @TheRayTV :) nice one.

  • @spaticus09 Im new to u2 and so far I dont realy like anything past tree.

  • @TheRayTV Personally I think Rattle and Hum sent them a bit crazy, some of the music was excellent, with BB King and Gospel choirs, maybe that was the flipping point that made them slightly eccentric and attempting to take a new style, and doing it very badly

  • @30Ciaran Give Rattle and Hum another shot. "Angel of Harlem" and "All I Want Is You" are two of the best tracks they ever recorded.

  • @amrichter357 Oh R&H is a classic, but possibly the fame from it flipped them to produce the muck that was Achtung baby and almost everything else since.

I still have their old albums, vinyl cassette and cd! just nothing after R&H cos i threw away Achtung Baby!

    Peace

  • @30Ciaran

yes I would have to agree. vh1 classic showed r&h the other night and though I appreciate their love for america, elvis, american soul & Jesus Christ, I would love for bono & co to catch their snap and make music that meant something. back in 1983/84, KSBJ, a houston Christian radio station used to play them on sat nights w/other Christian bands that were more rock and roll. mind you, U2 used to have a lot of songs w/Christian influences & references.

  • @30Ciaran

  • @TheRayTV They've always had a religious undertone, so to speak, not many rock stars get Audiences with the pope, in truth their ideals are almost Gandhi like, all religions pray to the same god, so discriminating or killing someone from a different religion, because of their belief is the biggest sin of all. However as they were all raised Catholic and Bono definitely still practices, they relate mainly to christians, which is not what they are about, it's just what they were born with.

  • @TheRayTV I think new stuff is as good as the old one. But I fell in love only 3 years ago.

  • @martilook I've been a fan since 1982. their new stuff is ok. I've seen them 5 times post joshua tree/80s and they play few song from that era. this new tour in nz/au, they are playing scarlet. heritage U2 fans should like that. classic edge guitar and a slight (no debate intended) return to their Spiritual upbrings (sans adam). welcome to U2, if it's only 3 years, think of the many years/songs you have to catch up.

  • @TheRayTV

Feeling the same way dude, actung baby was a bit dodgy as well, pre joshua tree for me. I love thier shows but they lost the passion they had back in the day.

Pop was a disgrace, remember new years day and bloody sunday in the early 80's...wow, like a song is a personal fav and out of control

  • @TheRayTV nothing kills it like "wire"

  • @madtnt ah wire from 1984 unforgettable fire. I think that is their best work ever! pride, elvis presley & america, 4th of july, promenade, indian summer sky & of course, bad. sad to say, they didn't or haven't played pride much on this current tour. I hope they come again to houston after the mexican shows but who knows!

  • @TheRayTV we must be round the same age bro...cuz thats about the time i was rockin my cons..trench coat..bandanas..fadora hat..ridin a skate board in nyc vill..rockin u2 in the big ol hvy walkman..lol and def. to me from beginings to the joshua tree..was their best. rattle and hum which alot of ppl forget about..was good too but i think it was a transition albumn for them...almost like an echo of JT that just didnt scream loud enough. JT from where the streets to mothers...they did not stop

  • @likyaright I'll be 42 on 10 jan but a U2 fan since 1983 when I first heard NYD. I'm partial to TUF which I think is their best. I like JT and those after but I am love edge's ringing guitar, larry's drumming & adam's bass. I'm just old school U2 I guess. forgive me but I measure them against the lads from liverpool. JT was a good album and R&H is too but some of the work after that well, commercialism and I wish U2 would get back to where they once belong.

  • @TheRayTV - TBH, ever since they got Wizard Eno on board in '84, their albums have been patchy. The last few tracks of TUF are mostly tedious (with the notable exception of Bad - but MLK?!). Joshua Tree has its duller moments (Red Hill Mining Town, for instance), Achtung Baby was brilliant in parts, but, again, there was too much filler. Zooropa was uniformly dreadful. Pop is actually underrated IMHO. The two after that were good but patchy, and the last one was just an embarrassment.

  • @TheRayTV Same here 1983 I found this album and it made me want to be a musician. I danced around my room for at least a year, my Brother was like what do you see in this band, I was like they are the most original band ever, they're awesome. When Joshea Tree came out he would play it everyday, I walked in his room and said "I told ya" and walked away laughing

  • @TheRayTV I think it's called nostalgia, you just haven't matured with the band to enjoy the more complex compositions they composed as they evolved, it's like stating you preferred all the early Beatles material, it was all very melodic, but it wasn't anywhere near as sophisticated and meaningful as their later work.

  • @KenfromDublin "matured w/the band" I think I have. since 1991 when they released AB, I have been to every U2 in houston & 1 in dallas. sometimes the first & second time they came texas. the only tour I missed was pop but I was in the hospital. if you have the read the previous posts on here, I am not the only one who misses their earlier work yet enjoys (if to be modest) their more recent work. let's keep it peaceful here but how long have you been a fan?

  • @TheRayTV I'm right there with ya. In the 8th grade our teacher brought in 'Boy' and I've been a fan since then. When this was released I hit the fucking roof and have not looked back.

  • @TheRayTV ...too true, the zenith was The Unforgettable Fire. Everything after that was a dip down hill. Admitably it was a very slow dip, with several flat bits, but downhill all the same.

  • @TheRayTV war is IMO the best album, true though. their still GREAT

  • vintage u2 the only way i love it!!!!!!

  • @zeelove8 have to agree love their early stuff

  • A generation without name, ripped and torn / Nothing to lose, nothing to gain /

Nothing at all -> 100k views, YEAH YEAH YEAH -> 10mil views - see where I'm going?

  • the ultimate protest song!!!! i live in latinamerica and i go to an university in which there are people who still think that the way to fight for the rights of the poor is the violence... they can't see that the answer is in everyone of us, and that's what this song is about. I really would like everyone of them to listen to this piece and realize that TWO WRONGS WON'T MAKE IT RIGHT.

  • War will always be my fave U2 album but the first 5 albums are all just golden... after Joshua Tree, well... some good stuff but it pales compared to this era!!!

  • @delfin7461 Yep

  • @delfin7461 I agree.....This is what I keep trying to tell people! Those who didn't live through that time don't seem to understand how truly unique and special they really were!

  • @delfin7461

I prefer the early era too, but achtung babe and zooropa have some masterpieces too. They just left pure rock for new souds, technology...

Lyrics to changed. Instead of saying don t watch tv, they wnet to watch more tv... if you understand what i mean... A different approach, deeper lyrics.

  • @delfin7461 what about Achtung Baby? All That You Can't Leave Behind? Zooropa (the song mostly) those are all masterpieces too.

  • @delfin7461 Why limit yourself? They said so much with "Boy," "War," "October." and of course "Pride (In the Name of Love)" that picking a "favorite," would be doing not only an injustice to yourself, but to U2 and the great history of music itself.

  • "....TO RIGHT ..TO BE WRONG....!" Damn, this is the album that I learned music appreciAtion FROM. 'Nuf said. OUT.

  • best track off one of their best albums....

  • Its easy to see why this cd is called WAR

  • Tbh I love what Brian Eno did with U2, but there's just something about the work Steve Lillywhite did with them that marks it out as classic Rock and something that they have failed to reproduce since the heady days of the 1980's when we all wore peace flag badges on our jackets. Come back home U2, you've lost your way. Great song, brings back so many memories :)

  • Larry is just amazing in this song.

  • Just Proof "War" is their best record.

  • RAW!

  • Their best track ever! probably cuz they don't do this one to death on the radio lol

  • @scrambang True. Their best work isn't the commercial stuff. I don't set out to like the album tracks more, but i do for the most part.

  • What a musical masterpiece this album "War" was...

Maybe that's because in that time Bono, Edge and cia actually cared about making good music, that's was the most important thing for them...

Nowadays when will Bono compose another song like this? We know the answer: never more.

  • My favorite U2 song. To bad that they lost their essence. Never cared for lemons.

  • @Thalamos Nor me, bar the odd song i don't really listen to anything past Rattle and Hum.

  • @spaticus09 You don't know what your missing.

  • @spaticus09

    Why?

What happened to you two Thalamos and spaticus09 - did you grow old?

Alas for you two - U2 will be forever young.

    ...as will their music.

  • @spaticus09 well you missed some pretty good stuff... the joshua tree, achtung baby, all that you can't leave behind?

  • @spaticus09 not even a few songs from AB, Zoo, Pop, ATYCLB, HTDAAB or NLOTH? the music isn't completely not worth listening to? I feel war & TUF are like part 1 & 2. war being europe & TUF - usa. thoughts & rebuttal?

  • @TheRayTV - NLOTH was a fucking embarrassment, and so was Zooropa. The rest were all good up to a point, some better than that. I think Pop is hugely underrated, actually.

  • When the Bells Ring out ...For the three (saps) that voted this down. Good , Luck ~Cuz~ This songs Rocks !!, Rod Blum .

  • This is one of my favorite U2 songs!!

  • generation with out name, all the peope who will never be,

Thank George Bush, And shame on U MR OBAMA

  • The best U2 song ever

  • @lutscher1967 I kind of agree

  • A masterpiece..... just awesome - hard to believe it's kids not much older than the kid on the album cover.

  • War is a great album ..too bad it seems like its been forgotten with time..

  • holy shit, i haven't heard this song since 1986. on vinyl! damn, where did the time go?

  • i really like this song

  • U2 the best times of this album

  • It's so hard to pick a favourite song off of War, it was definitely U2's best album. The Joshua Tree for me comes close, but War wins out.

  • Big rebel song!

  • But U2 were too big and nice to be 'rebels' by 'respected' standards.

  • @ivanko150585 Its actually not a rebel song, its an anti-rebel or at least anti-conflict song. Easy to think its a rebel song though cause the song (particularly larry's drums, which sound AWESOME in this song) captures the anger of the Irish youth at the time. Things were bad and people wanted change, U2 captures that frustration. But the lines like "Angry words won't stop a fight/Two wrongs don't make a right/A new heart is what I need/Oh God make it bleed" are anti-conflict

  • i f*** love this song

  • u2 is still great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • U2 has changed... :(

This song his my favorite of the band, simply awesome.

  • pure music!!!

  • I wish they would have played this song and "Drowning man" at the legendary red rocks concert!!!

  • Yeah, i used to have that on video cassette...?....dunno what happened to it.

  • @spaticus09 Have you checked in the loft, behind the suitcases?

  • @077glenn nah, i'm pretty sure some sneaky f'ker borrowed it and never returned it, waiting on me to forget...which doesn't take long.

  • @spaticus09 yeah, are you thinking of the same person as me?!

  • Imo, October is their most under rated albums

  • @jacob12102

This is from War Jacob - not October, or were you just making a general statement rather than a reference to this snog?

  • @jacob12102

    song* not snog :)

  • U2 wrote "Miami"

  • so amazing!!!love th
