I love your video...it's so truthful somehow...talking about the phenomenon YT became...and what you can see there...it's incredible, sometimes scary, sometimes very emotional. I didn't know something about Lonelygirl15, but it's intriguing stuff...
Anyway...like you and your video very much! Best wishes from ANNA
i watched lg15 before we "knew" it was fake. that really was an amazing time, there really hasn't been a hoax/story as gripping to me using internet video since then.
if you watched lg15:outbreak, you really stuck around for the whole thing! we probably posted on lg15.com at the same time ... who knows.... cheers, milo
@milowent btw, i see mentions of the vlogbrothers below. i remember when john green was watching and posting about lg15 -- he even mentioned his idea in chat one to start a videoblog (this was pre-vlogbrothers). i remember him saying he was afraid no one would watch videos that talked about books. i wholeheartedly agreed. haha, little did we know....
Yes, it was a unique and groundbreaking series. I was so caught up in it. And yes, I remember when John was talking about it. I see you've been knocking around here as long as I have! LOL
@LMN1968 Let me know what you think. You should watch from the very beginning. It's quite addictive. Start watching them and pretend you think it's a real girl vlogging.
I never followed Lonelygirl15 & am only marginally aware of the channel's existence. It's sounds entertaining though & I may have to check it out if I get a chance.
I was aware of YT going back to 2005/2006 but didn't really know too much about it until 2007. I remember thinking how cool it was that you could interact & connect people from all over the world so easily. It's also amazing to see the range of ideas, information & forms of expression that are out there/here.
@Illuminatta It was actually fiveawesomekitties. I'll have to check out Momstars. Say hey to Jack - hope he's enjoying his new box. Cats just love boxes.
Nice "writeup". Yeah I never watched lonleygirl15 but heard of her, but didn't I dont think knew the whole story. Theres so much on youtube to watch and I hope at least most of the people I watch are real but who knows really! Are you REAL? Or is this all just a big act?! hehe cheers :)
July of 2007. My first "community" video was "Accio Deathly Hallows" by Hank Green, and I was from then on a nerdfighter. Now I've obviously been sucked further and further into the community. I never saw lonleygirl15 while there was an enigma surrounding her, but when I went back and watched the videos about a year ago, I was amazed at the level of Jessica's acting.
@aaronjohnbarnett Yes, Jessica is talented and just has that "It" factor. I started watching the vlogbrothers months before that video, but it is still my favorite of Hank's. I'm a huge HP fan...books and films. :)
the sad thing is i still go there like maybe once every few months to see lonely girl and i think that some of the teens there think that she is still there...they are like "you are cute, i love your videos!" and you know, they should be able to tell what's up looking at the account...i mean, i dunno, i don't get it.
@AccessorizeAlways I know what you mean. I think those kids just looka t a couple of videos...they don't explore further. If they did, it would become clear what was going on. :) The excitement at the time of "is she rel or a hoax" was very cool...and it was the beginning of a huge vlogging community here that was different than it is now.
I love love love this! I was totally wrapped up in the lonelygirl videos. I remember WHATTHEBUCKs video titled Lonelygirl15 Isn't So Lonely. hahahahaha
Thanks for sharing this memory... Good times in this video. I just love it!
@ItalianStallionette Yeah, good times. :) Did you watch LG15:Outbreak? It wasn't as good, but it was pretty interesting. I'm still waiting for that "meet-up." Maybe we can meet in NYC for an afternoon! :)
Started in April of 07, never watched lonelygirl15. My son set up an account for me because I was interested in tai chi and he told me I could watch videos about it on YouTube. I did watch a few tai chi vids but then I discovered a million worlds I didn't know about just a click away ... it didn't take me long to find some "grownups" -- suburbanmom, Lesamilano, blinkazoid, bugsinrug, Nalts ... some of my favorite channels are gone now -- but I'm still finding new worlds to explore!
@liz1060 suburbanmom is something else now...can't remember her channel. Love blinkazoid, bugsinrug and nalts. Yeah, there are many people I used to watch and interact with who are gone now.

She was before my time. You and DrLemur were my introduction to the YouTube community, but my first gathering was last year.

@XrotarebiL Don't you miss DrLemur?? Such a nice guy. I wish he would post again.
Illuminatta 1 year ago
@Illuminatta Yeah. The Aus-American Switch was what got me interested in YouTube.
XrotarebiL 1 year ago
@XrotarebiL Wow! It seems like it was longer ago than that!
Illuminatta 1 year ago
@Illuminatta well, it was more to do with DrLemur's trouble getting into the States that got me interested. But I started in 2008
