Check out the Green Parrot Ukulele society in Key West on Facebook. We have a way to go, but you have inspired us!

  • Lovely. It'd be awesome to see you do a Tom Lehrer cover; some of Randy's old satirical stuff reminds me of him.

  • Cool version. Would you share the chords with a fellow Fluke player?

  • @Ludvik300 Best pick-up line EVER.

  • Love it, you are an awesome talent!

  • ...thats right baby...dont wanna hurt no Kangaroo...love Newman........and Always remember....Louisiana!.....

  • Perhaps better than the original. I wouldn't have guessed it, but as in the case of The Eagles' "Desperado," it seems to sound better with a female vocal.

  • I would really love to know what chords you are using. I can't figure them all out.

  • You are the essence of awesomness! Nice one :) I've just subscribed...Wooooooooooooooooo

  • Love it!

  • It's a 15% larger Juno.

  • Thank you, you made me smile.

    : )

  • wonderful! you like randy newman, tom lehrer, jonathan coulton, and uke. how about jonathan richman?

  • this has to be the best cover of this song on all of Youtube!

  • i really like how u put ur own spin on it by speeding it up a bit...... keep it up

    5 stars!!!

  • Sweet! I was waiting for you to put this up after the teaser from you subscriber thank you vid. you're my uke hero!

  • Your version is definitely better, but here's mine from last Thursday night at Otto's Shrunken Head, East Village NYC.

  • That was awesome. Nice work. Randy Newman is one of my favorite artists.

  • haha! I love this song. It's hilarious. Randy Newman is the man.

You have a really great voice! :)

  • You're awesome. Have my babies? :p

I've been on an 80s stint today and am curious how you would play Big Country :)

  • @f3xy Everyone knows the only person's baby she'd have is Stephen Fry.

  • awesome singing/uke-ing lol. i think the echo kinda worked for this song, it was nice. :)

  • Good job! I have this song on Randy Newman's LP "Sail Away" (you might not know what that is. They were around a while back ;)) I would like to request "Sail Away" as a future Uke song you could do. :)

  • I actually prefer your version of this song. You're fantastic haha. Your sense of humour is epic.

  • I love this song--and you are amazing :D

  • you are really amazing kid

  • Oh my god, thomaserakiscool... I mean come on! How can one man have so much wit! please, please, please tell me how you can think up such intelligent things to say! *cough*wanker*cough*

Sorry I meant to say WANKER!

. blub .. yeah btw nice song xD 5*

  • u suck...

  • Beautifully played and sung. Loved it!

  • lol I wish you would record this song in a studio and let me download it. I like it better than the original.

  • wonderful!!

  • Great Job on Drop the Big one, excellent vocals!

AlucardSX--WHATT!! There's a Randy Newman song called Sigmund Freud's Impersonation of Albert Einstein! lol, I must find.

  • Cute AND well done. Excellent singing. The tropical, easy-going sound of the Ukulele also ads an extra layer of satire. BTW . . . Your study lounge is quite roomy. At my university there are tiny rooms at the end of the hall affectionately referred to as "Nerd Boxes." Rock On.

  • Simply awesome! Your second best cover yet (after Tom Cruise crazy)

But if you ever feel like doing another Newman cover may I request "Sigmund Freud's Impersonation of Albert Einstein in America"?

For some reason no one ever covers that.

Heck, not even the original can be found on YouTube. Which is just a shame. It's such a good song :(

  • I love this...I watch it once a week or so...great song...great rendition.

  • i was waiting for this one..

  • i did a performance of this a few years ago.. love this song so much xx

  • cool song...Pedro the Lion does an awesome cover of this song as well...

  • Randy Newman, and Molly, wasn't being serious but satirical. Much like the essay "A Modest personal" in the same way that Johnathon Swift doesn't really want people eating babies Mr. Newman, and Molly, don't want to really destroy and pillage the world. However, they are making an abusive claim to undermine an opposing view pointabout American current contemptuous/paternalistic policies and or mainstream views in addition the homogenization of world culture.

  • Good points, barrus, but it's "A Modest Proposal."

  • Darn. You beat me to it. I wanted to be the one to post that correction.

A modest personal would be something like, "Sort of fun-loving, kind of good-looking male with not overly athletic build looking for someone who knows how to enjoy satire."

  • Your modest personal made me literally lol.

  • Thank you, and SPELL CHECK YOU HAVE FAILED ME

  • I'm a Canadian.

I certainly hope that you know what a "SATIRE" is, because if not, I fear that you may not be very bright. Please prove me wrong.

  • Um, is it possible to enjoy Molly and NOT know what satire is? Probably not. Her best songs are tongue and cheek, originals and covers. That's why I keep coming back. If I were really offended I wouldn't be a subscriber. Still, as much as I like Molly's rendition of this, I cringe a bit having actually met an atomic bomb survivor. Also I currently live outside of Tokyo which was mercilessly carpet bombed during WWII. Even if it's social commentary, the song is not as funny as we all think.

  • So it's been a month since my first comment about this song. Since then I have had my intelligence questioned and been marred with a rating of -6. This is the same score as the jerk that called Molly an U**Y C**T; totally uncalled for. OK, so maybe my comment offended a few people but PLEASE don't let it get the same rating as the guy that actually attacked (rather than critiqued) Molly. • Hmm, so I meant to pick on Hoboscouts with this. Uhh, he made his comment actually two weeks ago. Sorry about that. Actually, this comment is kind of embarassing now. Really wish it wasn't going to stay up here for as long as there is an Internet. Hmm, not quite the legacy I was hoping to leave for future generations.

  • I didn't see your comment, so unlike you can't comment. However, it's the internet: don't take things to heart, unless you can't find the off-switch for your PC!

  • Wow. Your voice.

    Really, it's quite nice. :]

  • I keep returning to this video to admire sweetafton's voice here-- the acoustics really bring out her remarkable clarity.

And sacrilege it might be, but I think she's improved on the original here.

  • You are my favorite V-Logger

    yeYahhh!

  • /Musician on youtube

    haha oops

  • you are a genious. you may now get away with putting a plaque on your wall saying that you have inspired at least one person to play ukulele. sweetafton23 FTW!!!!!

  • W00T for my major being able to link my two favorite things (music and political science) is a very exciting thing lol

  • awesome

  • Sweet Acoustics. You know what would go well with that sweater? A glove with knives on it.

  • aha you mean freddy krugers erhm...shirt? yes it does look a bit like it. thats kinda funny. once again Molly you make me shiver, jump and roll around the floor with joy. thank you!

  • Knowing that there's a college freshman out there with the good taste to be covering this song (plus Tom Lehrer, etc.) so nicely is one of the very, very few things that gives me hope for this nation. I'm writing you in on Election Day.

  • i think you neighbours would be thankful if you woke them up..

i mean how could they not smile whilst someone is playing a ukulele?

  • kickass sweater.

    ROCK ON.

  • I like it, and I appreciate that you're not slavish in your covers (Randy Newman is probably the best Randy Newman we'll get), but I thought most of the performance was a bit rushed, and the timing too even---Newman's more deliberate pace makes his character _seem_ more reasonable, if only to himself. Still, good.

  • Good to see a new one, Afton! This is really excellent!

  • i can't help but wonder what your lookin' at as the video comes to a close....is it the clock?, and the fact that it's so late prompts that impish smile.....or maybe it's a foreign exchange student from one of the countries mentioned in the song

  • This is amazing. This is one of my favorite songs ever and it's fun to see a new version of it. And to see study lounges put to actual good uses. ^_^

  • great!! Why Russia and not London?

  • Since seeing a small clip of this in one of your videos I was hoping to GOD you'd play it!

It's an amazing song and an even better performance! Amazing stuff! :D Love your work!

  • Yay Australia was saved! :D

    Good One sweetafton :)

  • Thank Randy Newman.

  • You have great wit. Do you do ballads or laments? Thanks for your uploads. I (and thousands) watch them over and over.

  • Holy crap! Way way way awesome voice on this song!

  • I second that. Good job.

  • Another great one. 5/5

  • That was fantastic! You've got a great voice!

  • Awesome choice of song, and rendition! :) Will def be subscribed and following.

I was sent here by a blogger that linked both of us (alkalineearth [dot] com)

  • NATURAL REVERB! Nice! ???.....how could anybody be the slightest bit disturbed by your music?

  • That study lounge is awful, how's anyone going to learn anything in there. Nice work cutie.

  • awesome, the echo in the room gives it a pretty sweet sound.

  • you are lovely.... good job!

  • Ha! She's too young by half, or else I could be in love.

  • Are you big woman on campus?

  • nice cover. it was pretty fun and a kinda strange song... i liked it.

there was a cute little side-glance at the end too. i noticed.

  • that was utterly beautiful

  • Hey another comment by me, i like the echoing thing. And its kind of odd how no one is in your study lounge.. You should keep singing they might stop by.. open a store or stage at your school

oh and Austraila IS VIVA LA VIDA FOR KANGAROOS

  • Hey if you ever make a Q and A video I have another question for you:

Do people at ur college recognize you? Like r u being bombarded with people who want your autograph =D

    Thx.

  • cool

  • Will you go out with me? Please. Please.

  • is there any chance i could get the cords for this? i'd totally love to use this for a class project.

  • The acoustics actually make this better :)

  • Cool video, I see that it's hard to keep making videos, but we appreciate it.

    take care Molly.

  • i love your videos.

  • hey! thanks for makin a new vid, ive been waitin!

  • Thanks for the entertaining distraction from writing my thesis. Your videos always put a smile on my face.

  • next time be a jerk and wake up everyone! =P

  • Yay for Randy Newman! :D

  • Ahhh, the study lounge. The loud college student's best friend.

    Well, that or parties.

I have many fond memories of making music and hanging out in those awkwardly echoing rooms.

  • As always, absolutely marvelous. Love the song choice, love the strange setting, love the arrangement. There's a lot of love here, is all I'm saying.

  • friggin great! as always. it may be a little oxymoronic to say this but you do the most origional covers ever!

  • i like you

  • Well, this Canuck doesn't hate you.

  • I'm not going to tell you that I want to see you naked. I don't, that would be to disrespectful. I just want to tell you how cute you are.

  • i had to watch this 20 times. CUTE!

  • wow the echo is a lot but good tune keep them coming I hope to put a uke video up soon.

  • you are too cute

  • haha...the sweater!

You look like such the scholar, dear!

  • oh god. i remember the difficulty of trying to find a time and place when/where i could play my mandolin in res without pissing off my house-mates...and i lived in a noisy house. 'parently mandolin was ranked above drunken screaming in terms of annoyance level. ;)

well done, in any case. sorry i posted the 112th comment.

  • Sounds good! Good acoustics in there too. :)

  • This has been one of my favorites of yours since forever! I'm so glad you video'd it :D

  • that echo is cool :D

  • The first vid from college! I love it!

  • i fucking love you.

  • i love your cover and your vids=)

  • Ouch. I don't know if it's the echo or just the distance (closeness) to the mic, but the uke got way too loud for my ears. Couldn't hear your voice of it.
