  • when was in production she was diagnosed with cervical cancer but she didnt tell the director because she didnt want to get cut. she survived

  • i love her.

i met her after i saw the show in november and shes the sweetest.

  • Are you talking about Marissa Perry? Marissa Jaret Winokur joined the show on December 8, 2008.

  • @broadwayskip Actually, marissa jaret winokur was the very first person to be tracy on broadway. she was in the original broadway cast, she just left for about a year, and then came back in 2008.

  • @hollywood9314 Of course, she was part of the OBC; but she again joined the show on December 8, 2008.

  • the closing night was the most amazing show I had ever seen! The energy was so high and you could really tell everyone on stage loved the show and hey really let it go with a bang. Marissa is so sweet, she stayed after the show to sign autographs and actually took the time to talk to me and others and let me take a cell pic and a hug ^^ I loved it so much, best broadway experience EVER!!!

  • its funny how she like bring it back in two weeks i wish they could bring it back soon

  • I'm sure you saw Laura Bell Bundy there right? :D

  • Wait a second... 3 or 4 thousand? The show hasn't even done that much... huh...

  • I love Jerry hes so cute!!!!!

God I wish i was there i've only seen it once before but it was amazing!!!!!!!

  • nothing like the magic of broadway...ty for bringing us into the theatre...I always like the behind scene stuff

  • It's so sad to watch this knowing it's gone. *sigh* I can only imagine how great that last show was.

  • The Hairspray cast were not only great actors, singers, and dancers, they were great people. I so much appreciate the kindness that was extended to my son Tucker, a diehard Hairspray fan. Thanks Ryan and Maressa! Hope we run into

    you again.

  • that's so nice to hear.

  • Are you using a flipcam to film this? I have one and I have the same problem with it being so wobbley.

  • Hey why did it close

  • it had problems selling tickets

  • Just like a bunch of other musicals...including Grease...

  • im sad because ive always wanted to see that show

  • anyone know what song this is?

  • I Know Where I've Been.

It's a song from the show.

  • It's still playing in London, and I think also Vegas and Canada, not to mention a National Tour.

  • Ryan have i missed somewhere what you have said about Benjamin Button? I am watching the "for award consideration only" version. it is on my laptop but it is still fantastic. i take back all doubts. what did you think??

  • Thanks for posting!!!

  • when did marissa return to the show?

  • Decemer 9

  • noooooo its gone D:...now we wait for Ryan to be Edna in the revival...SHAZZAM! XD

  • what a wonderful event for not only the cast and crew (past and present), but for the entire theatrical community. Thank you for taking us on this journey!

  • OMGGGGG TUCKER!!!!!!!!! i was not expecting to see him.... katies my bitch! that is so wierd!

  • was that Jerry Mitchell on the stage at the end?

    this is so touching!

  • yes it was

  • thanks...

i can't stop watching this footage

  • So sad. =( I'm glad I got to see the show when it first opened.

That little Tucker is too cute!

  • I was never able to see it on Broadway but I am seeing it on the tour on Jan. 31. "Oh my gosh I am making a hair joke..." Marissa looks great and I wish I could have seen her live! Thanks for the video Ryan!

  • I was never able to see Hairspray on stage. Living 3 and half hours away in Central NY doesn't allow me the chance to get to NYC whenever I want to see a Broadway play/musical! =/

    Aww.

  • I feel your pain! I live much farther then you do and I haven't seen one Broadway show :(

  • Aww, that sucks even more!

I've only ever seen one Broadway play myself =/

    I want to go see Equus but it's closing in February and I don't have the monies for the ticket(s) or the gas down to NYC ;_;

  • That's how it goes, it's like a huge event when you go because you save money, plan it to a tee etc.! :)

  • Haha yes! Exactly!

  • Yup! :)

  • ryan, this video makes my life complete - so sad, but it's a part of history we can all say we've seen and been a part of!!!!

  • i always look forward to seeing your videos!

  • i'm so sad. im gonna miss harispray SOOOOOOO SOOOOO SOOOO much!!!! the ending of the show was amazing and like ryan said overwhelming. it was nice how everyone that was part of hairspray was able to be in and on the same stage again. im gonna miss hairspray!!! the actors that did hairspray r all wonderful and soo very talented. too bad ryan wasn't in the real real cast but he basically was. that stage must have been crowded

  • Hairspray changed my life. Before I saw Hairspray, I was going to be a teacher, only because it would be a steady paycheck, it wasnt my passion just a career. After the curtain went down after YCSTB, I knew right then and there that I wanted to be a musical theatre performer, it didn't matter if I had food on the table or got a paycheck every single week. It was the fact that I'll be doing something I love. Hairspray you will always be missed! Much Love!

  • T_T this make me so sad!! but i was lucky enough to see it twice!

  • OMG 3 to 4 thosand!!!

  • Wish I could have been there, but thank you so much Ryan for allowing me to be there by proxy!

And thank you to all the cast, crew, creative talents and cash-providers for being behind this wonderful show and making so many people happy - even though I got a bit teary watching footage of the final Broadway performance (the final one for now that is!)

  • Got chills at the GRAND FINALE. I mean the type of chills that go up and down my body. (Not even trying to sound dirty) absolutely breathe taking, I hope one day I can feel the emotion that Marissa has felt. Marissa, your a beautiful woman and a role-model to me. You will forever be the one person I look up too. God Bless You! Your life has been blessed.

  • such a sad and cute video! i wish i was there and could have seen it.

  • Ryan you have no idea how much I am crying right now...still. These past few days I can't concentrate on anything but Hairspray. I can't believe it's really gone. I don't know how i'm going to move on. I couldn't make it to the last show. :(

I did see it twice during its last week though.

Thank-you so much for this!! :)

  • aww it's so sad that its closed! I'm so glad you were on Bucks show!

  • i'm so sad that i only saw this show once...

  • Thank you so much for posting this, Ryan! The end with the alumni and creative team onstage at once was just amazing to see. :)

  • Hi Ryan...I took Buck's advice and subscribed to your channel...I'm glad I did.

  • I have to admit I did get a little emotional watching this video. I am fortunate enough to have seen this show three times with the equity tour, non equity tour, and on broadway. Seeing those seats brought a warmness in my heart. Thanks for sharing this special moment Ryan. Much love to Marissa and the rest of the Hairspray family!

  • loved watching this video

  • ...I'm so freaking sad...I wasn't able to go and now it's over and *sob*

  • i was there! at the last show

  • why cant i comment all of a sudden!

  • Tucker is cute. =]

  • I am sad that I never got a chance to see it. Of course I've never even been to NYC so I'm missing out in general. Thanks for all the excellent vids Ryan!!

  • Ditto! Not being able to go to NYC SUCKS! And not being able to an amazing musical like Hairspray sucks even worse! :(

  • I'm so sad this closed before I had the chance to see it. Thank you for sharing this with us Ryan.

  • ryan and marisaa should have their own talk show!

  • thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us Ryan. I was never fortunate enough to be able to go to new york to see the show on Broadway and I thank you for enabling me to be able to see behind the show.

  • Wow amazing vid!!! "oh my god I'm making a hair joke" LOL

I am SO THANKFUL that you shared this experience with us!!!!!

  • words really can't express how thankful I am for this video Ryan. Hairspray the story changed my life at age six and I have followed it since then, I was lucky enough to see it on Broadway this summer and really wanted to get back for closing but it didn't work out. • Thanks for this Ryan it looked like the audience was crazy! It will be hard for Bdwy to top this one.

  • I can't tell you how incredibly sad I am that I never got to see that show... This is what I get for living so far away from NYC.

Marissa is amazing and I think she's more of an inspiration to young girls like me than she even realizes.

Thanks for all the footage from NY ryan. I really loved it.

    -Liz-

  • I never got to see the show. I am so sad that I missed this incredible experience. I truly got chills watching this clip. You guys are amazing!

  • i was so fortunate to have been there January 4. It was my 12th time and each time I feel like I've never seen it before. As I told Marissa at the stagedoor last night, Hairspray changed my life more than you can imagine and so all those people who ran onstage for the last ten minutes: THANK YOU.

and thank YOU Ryan for your amazing footage.

  • All the numbers were amazing!! Opening number..AMAZING!!! I Can Hear the Bells was amazing and hysterical. Welcome to the 60's...WOW! The crowd was going wild!! All of the numbers were just amazing and you could tell they were so emotional. That was the loudest and most insane crowd I have ever been a part of and I loved every minute of it. HAIRSPRAY REVIVAL TOMORROW!!!! hahaha.

  • AMAZING SHOW!!! So glad that I was able to make it to the final show. It was a truly amazing show. And I Know Where I've Been was so powerful and touching last night. It was so hard to not cry. My whole row was crying. Also the ad libs were amazing that night. Harvy was hysterical and Marissa's remark about the Corny Collins show......AND THE WHITE HOUSE are now and forever officially intergrated! AMAZING!!

  • Haha, Ryan I love how Tucker made it into BOTH our videos.

    <3

  • I hate when shows close! When I use to act, we called it the post-show blues. All of the actors must have been wonderful! Speaking with them, after such a long ride, even though it is sad and the great curtains are now closed, the next chapter presents itself for each.I can hear it in these actors; they are going to be wonderful in their next steps on life's road--I wish only them great luck happiness, and all that jazz. Oh, btw I was that guy backstage, I said I am a Vegan not a Puerto Rican :P

  • sorry about your loss, i bet you had good times!

    later on fella,

    XEM

  • I wish I could've seen it yesterday!

and thats so true. Hairspray has definitely changed my life and so many others forever!

  • i saw this show 4 years ago on my first (and so far only) trip to NYC and LOVED IT!

we even learned the dance to the finale and did it in the audience...it was great fun. i'm really sad it had to go. it was a special piece of musical theatre

  • You misspelled closing in your description box. Hairspray is so in couture.

  • That was so bittersweet. Hairspray was so amazing and I'm SO sad to see it go... but I feel so lucky that I got to see Marissa twice, and thank you Ryan for putting this video up.

    *sheds a tear*
