Thank you SOOOO much! I love this performance, and unfortunately the Comedy Central website clips from the special mostly don't have the audience (not to mention they won't play on my iPhone!)!
"im trying to see me as a Jew im trying even harder. but i believe in Jesus Christ and that's a real non starter." haha Stephan is Catholic. its just soo great.
@Phasael Yeah, I've heard evidence that Islamic folks can also have a sense of humor about themselves and their cultures. For starters, check out the Axis of Evil comedy folks.
For all of your anti-Semites who claim to be Christians, you worship an orthodox Jewish rabbi, your Holy Scriptures (both "old" and "new") were all written by Jewish men, and God is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The concept of one God was a Jewish concept (thank you very much) or you would all be sitting around worshipping as Pagans or Druids or who knows what else. In short, Jews rock!
@WGWinters thank you! I am christian and I still don't understand why there is so much hate from my faith to your's because of that reason....and the whole fact that the man most christians claim to follow specifically spoke against hating on others and what not.
@WGWinters napoleon said it best " its not fair that I napoleon bonaparte who conqurered europe should be out lived by a jewish peasant from Judea " lol epic when you think about it
@WGWinters Can't we have a good time watching two human being with different religious background making fun of religion in a innocent kinda of way without you jew trying to show everybody that you are better than others? (Unless your comment is in response to someone that pissed you off, in that case I approve your message even though I hate all religions).
Wellll they're right in the Christian perspective...that's what Christianity is after all. What you believe may be different, but it's true for Christians
I'm tiring of the mocking of Hanukkah. Celebrating religious freedom is serious business. It's still a challenge in this world. We have yet to be saved from that one.
@penfro just saying, what you said can only make sense in the mind of someone who is poorly educated in the actual history of events pertaining to the different religions in question. I don't claim to be a theologian, but i do have a little bit of education on the history of jesus (yeshua) and the origins of christianity. not going to get into all that here, but yea...
oh and btw, i'm not christian/jewish (i'd call myself agnostic if i had to pick a label)
Very Funny, just want to throw it out there, that the miracle of Hanukah is that the Oil lasted 8 days, but we jews don't celebrate that, we celebrate that the jews ( Judah Hamacabee) and the rest defeated the Greeks who were trying to "socialize" and remove the Jewish faith and Practices from the jews and make all jews be Greek in culture. Thats what we celebrate that after all these years where are the greeks?Edom?Persians? but jewish Culture is still here... Happy Hanukah Steve & John
Where are the Greeks? Erm, largely in Greece, with their own strong culture but a rather dodgy economy at the moment. And I don't think they have any wacos equivalent to the Haredis.
The Greek culture was rather a rich one full of scientific, philosophical and artistic advances. To be proud of not emulating that but rather adopting a culture that obsesses about a narcissistic, tyrant-like god who considers one a favourite because he lops off his foreskin is a questionable move.
"I'm trying to see me as a Jew, I'm trying even harder, but I believe in Jesus Christ so it's a real non-starter".
But Jesus was a Jew! If Jesus came back today he'd be lighting the candles and eating the latkes! He'd be going to a synagogue, not a church. And he'd find the Pope a curious man indeed.
@penfro um i don't know why atheists always have to make an argument on how these religions don't make sense. Its about the comedy, not the religion. also, why not just live and let live. Is it that you have to feel smarter then everyone else? not trying to start and internet war, but learn to let bygones be bygones.
@FooshigiMLGlol Well for me it has everything to do with leaving the world a better place than I found it. Knowing that the advancement of knowledge leads to greater prosperity and seeing what religious belief does to knowledge, it is a noble way to spend your brief time in the sun trying to enlighten people and wake them from their fearful superstitions. Religion divides, knowledge unites. Don't believe religion divides just look at how many divisions of Christianity there are.
Hey, the comedy is great and I'm willing to treat everyone equally and live and let live - rather unlike the 'sacred' texts of those who advance Abraham's god replete with bias against either the Goyim or the Kafir, It's all needlessly divisive. You get none of that Us vs Them in Buddhism, for example.
Bygones? How often are Jewish or Islamic kids 'allowed' to marry someone of another faith? The divisiveness has not been confined to history, unfortunately.
@penfro Am I saying everything is perfect? No. But I'm not posting anti-religious stuff on youtube. I'm just trying to show you that you don't gotta try to prove everyone wrong, just enjoy the song man. It isn't supposed to go that deep into religion.
@penfro It is funny too, Stephen Colbert (out of character) does not believe in Jesus. I find it his brand of comedy hilarious. I don't know about John Stewart's personal religious views but I do know for sure that Stephen is not a believer. Check out Colbert's hour long interview with Neil DeGrasse Tyson.
Great skit! But for those Jews who don't know it celebrates the fact that God performed visible miracles in that time the first of which was not getting annihilated by the Greeks, then the miracle of the oil lasting eight days followed that.
Why is this video backwards? The comedy central logo on t he bottom left is not facing the 'right' direction - suppose to be facing us and on the bottom right. Which means when the show aired John Stewart was facing the opposite direction.
Ahh , now i can let my Bing Crosby Christmas record go on Holiday this year. Colbert and Stewart have done what they couldn't do 2000 years ago. Where were you guys?? Pax..
This is very cute. I wish Jon would have sang how Hanuka was 165 years before Jesus was born during the time of the Ancient Greeks. So, as a Jew, Jesus would have celebrated Hanuka

(just to clarify on thing: the concept one God was declared from the very beginning with the creation of Adam, so it's not a "Jewish" concept.)

@WGWinters Luke was not a jewish writer just to let you know.
And there is nothing wrong with druidic and pagan religions.
But you are right that those christians who say that salvation is only thru Jesus are wrong (and evangelicals.)

one more reason why they both rule comedy, commentary and satire. And rightly so. SNL needs to take several pages of notes on "how to"
