If we are going to strip away tax exempt status from non-profits then we need to be fair and do it for ALL organizations that could conceivably influence anyone to take a position including nature orgs, political orgs (left and right), even atheist orgs (atheism IS a belief system with serious ramifications when implemented), all non-christian orgs that teach anything that could conceivably cause anyone to take a position, etc... If you read the ruling in the case decided by 7th Circuit you would know why it was decided the way it was. Christian guards were denying a man the same rights awarded to all the other Sky Daddy worshipers. The right to have a group meeting of like minded people. The ruling was not saying Atheism was a religion, but in this situation should be treated as the other religions are so that the group of Atheist could meet like other religious groups do in prison.

My ex-husband from Cleveland, Ohio made headlines in Jan. 2008. He rented the upstairs out to a 3 generation family of blacks on Section 8. He used the "n" word during a dispute with them. They phoned the police after he shot a gun demanding they take the rest of their belongings with them and leave the property. SWAT came. He was jailed. Now, the courts have sent him to a Mental Institution Jail claiming he is "crazy" and needs help with his anger. I don't know how long he will be in jail.

Such legislation exists in Canada, Australia, Sweden, France, Turkey and several other countries. There's a difference between expressing an opinion and spreading hate propaganda. People aren't imprisoned for voicing a racist opinion alone, but who also harass or harm targeted groups. It's illegal to advocate hate and violence. "I disagree with __'s lifestyle. Let's discourage it." Compared to, "__'s a __ lets go kick his @ss and destroy his stuff!" Is it so hard to see the difference? People aren't just convicted on a whim. Give the jury some credit in their ability to see the difference.

Christianity has as interpreted by the founding fathers (though they were in fact flawed, elitism and slave owners ) was the base for the Constiturion. The different Christian sects had to get along and leave the old world bigotry behind. This eventually led the America to more inclusive of other peoples religions.
