I love this movie but AGAIN with the crazy wolves as villains?! The whole pack must be crazy with rabies to go after a woman on a draught horse into freezing lake water. Wolves aren't stupid -- they might eat you after you're dead but they're (rightly) terrified of humans.

@totallyRin Actually there isn't a lion in Beast's design, although I will admit it does look like it has in some parts. There's a mixture of animals in his design, senev to be exact. With the horns being those of a buffalo.

@ghofspa1 Well the way I look at it is he didn't have much or even any combat training when he was a spoiled human prince and has been secluded in his castle for ten years,so he was in defense during the fight using his beast-strength. He tried the intimidation move with the roar and when he noticed they weren't backing down,he charged into battle,desperately trying to survive for his and Belle's sake. Same for the fight with Gaston-intinct and desperation plus beast strength.

@ghofspa1 A large pack can bring down about any size of animal in the forest. The beast was no more of a challenge to them than a moose would be to a real pack.  But TheSting87 is right....he did well considering he was never taught any fighting skills whatsoever. Interesting fact: when a wolf pack wounds an animal fatally, they will sometimes retreat and let it bleed to death rather than killing it. If Belle had left him after he fell, the wolves would have returned to eat him.

Probably just because a horse is a larger animal than a wolf. Water which is shallow enough for a horse to wade through might be too deep for a wolf to touch bottom, and the layer of breaking ice would make swimming difficult.
