I love this movie but AGAIN with the crazy wolves as villains?! The whole pack must be crazy with rabies to go after a woman on a draught horse into freezing lake water. Wolves aren't stupid -- they might eat you after you're dead but they're (rightly) terrified of humans.
Weirdly enough this is my favorite scene out of the entire movie. I love how he comes to save her and how this is the start of her realizing there may be more to him than what she thought originally.
@totallyRin Actually there isn't a lion in Beast's design, although I will admit it does look like it has in some parts. There's a mixture of animals in his design, senev to be exact. With the horns being those of a buffalo.
Belle's the roommate we all have nightmares about. She goes into your room without asking, messes with your crap. She probably doesn't clean up her dishes either. :)
@ghofspa1 Well the way I look at it is he didn't have much or even any combat training when he was a spoiled human prince and has been secluded in his castle for ten years,so he was in defense during the fight using his beast-strength. He tried the intimidation move with the roar and when he noticed they weren't backing down,he charged into battle, desperately trying to survive for his and Belle's sake. Same for the fight with Gaston-intinct and desperation plus beast strength.
@ghofspa1 A large pack can bring down about any size of animal in the forest. The beast was no more of a challenge to them than a moose would be to a real pack. But TheSting87 is right....he did well considering he was never taught any fighting skills whatsoever. Interesting fact: when a wolf pack wounds an animal fatally, they will sometimes retreat and let it bleed to death rather than killing it. If Belle had left him after he fell, the wolves would have returned to eat him.
i just think thats the most romantic thing ever when i guy fights for a girl. for a good reason. bell took up a good fight but was loosing. beast had the size advantage
@dogshaveteeth I think he is. But, the story is set in France, at least I assume, so he can also be a Percheron, french race of very strong and stordy horses. But, I incline toward the Shire Theory. (I don't know if I'm very comprehensible, excuse my awful english, I'm french.)
@elphabamushu I couldn't help but wonder about that too 0_0
All I can guess is maybe the horse laid down and she like... rolled him onto the horse's back. But I often wonder how the Beast didn't slip off the horse in his position.
I remember the scene at 1:20-25 scared the hell out of a couple kids in the theatre I was at .They ran out the door with the parents in hot pursuit trying to calm them down and they never came back in.
@7DARKHELLS How old were these kids? Did they have nightmares afterwards? Perhaps they should've stayed home to watch "My Neighbor Totoro" or "Kiki's Delivery Service" instead.
People keep wondering how Belle got Beast on Philippe. Philippe could have knelt and Belle rolled Beast or lifted him limb by limb, or Beast was semi-conscious, whatever the case.
The Beast is the best character ever. My favorite part is the look he gives her and breathes out the steam before he passes out. He was just so beautifully designed, I don't think it could have been better.
Hopefully Disney will start another Renaissance with Princess and the Frog...
I prefer 2D animation MUCH MORE than 3D animation. I think that 3D animation should only help 2D animation (like the Stampede scene in Lion King, Deep Canvas in Tarzan, ballroom dance scene in Beauty and the Beast etc.)
It's funny how everyone thinks Belle looks good with her hair down, and while I agree that she does look good with her hair down, she somehow also has this ability to look good even when the hood of her cloak is covering her head.
@CommanderLightning thanks Welker is a legend in voice over business. Welker along with Jim Cummings provided the voices to a lot of my favorite cartoons.
i really love this scene, as a kid scared the heck outta me though lol, it used to make me wonder as well how did little belle get the beast on the phillipe lol i still HATE those wolves though mean things lol but i gotta say i loved the beast protective stance he took in front of her..
Man at 0.58 that wolf almost took Belle's head off! lol. This is my favourite scene in the film. The music is incredible! I love how Belle's hair looks in this scene!

Its always plagued my curiousity as well & thats the only reasonable solution I can come up with.
When Belle gasps after the wolf breaks the stick, she looks just like Ursula in her human form in little mermaid. Those wolves wouldnt have just stood there barking at them and biding their time too
What really makes this scene is the music! Especially since theres no dialogue wat so ever(which I just realised) but anyways does anyone know what exactly made him pass out?
Dude first he had to run and find bell in a blizzard below 0 then he had to kick wolf butt and get injured in the process i think i would pass out too.
Probably just because a horse is a larger animal than a wolf. Water which is shallow enough for a horse to wade through might be too deep for a wolf to touch bottom, and the layer of breaking ice would make swimming difficult.
