I saw Cynic in 2010, but wasn't too familiar with their music then. Having listened to Focus and earlier stuff, I totally can't wait for them to tour again! :D
I know probaly someone already asked that, but i gonna ask the same way. I love progressive rock, and metal. Bands like Cynic, Opeth, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Contnuo Renacer, and others make my mind. But could somebody indicate to me some other bands in Cynic's style? And something about fusion too. I know artists like Scott Handerson, Frank Gambale, Marcus Miller. And sorry, i can't stand Chick Corea (please don't kill me, people). Well, thanks.
to me fusion is so different and exists in different genres, depends on which particular genre do you like. In metal to me fusion is Aghora (eastern yogi speed metal- kind of fusion). In hard blues-rock-oriented music - it's Tony Macalpine, Greg Howe, maybe Scotty Anderson, Guthrie Govan.. In mellower rhytmical jazz / bossa-nova genre to me its Victor Wooten, Bella Fleck and the Flecktones
"Chick Corea acoustic band" is the shit, although it's not a fusion, it's jazz. brilliant album.
Man that makes me sad that that happened to them, espicially since the whole reason I got into Cannibal was their more technical side. Like when I heard The Bleeding I was glad it had more technicality than what I'd heard of them before. True death metal fans would know and respect Cynic, that shit wouldn't happen these days.
everything around us, relationships and ourselves are pierced with that.
thats what eastern philosophies and martial arts teach as an integral principle: open mind, open eyes, no ego -> personal transformation; its good for everyone.
After watching this .... I am honestly so very, very, very, ashamed to admit I listen to Cannibal Corpse. Just be happy to know, I wasn't in that crowd that night.
Cannibal corpse is weak. Im a huge metal fan(and music fan in general) and have never ever understood how they became so popular. I feel bad for these cats touring with them back then. I hate to say it, but a lot of death metal fans are close minded and not open to new things. just read comments on some of these videos.
Yeah, I know man...I'm a death metal fan myself, and I've a fair amount of hacks that are too damn closed-minded (though not all of them); it's bullshit. I myself love all sorts of music, though.
Don't be...Cynic is not for everyone. They're a special band that only certain people get. Feel special that you know and understand who and what they are and that you are part of that group of select individuals.
it's alright dude... There are many bands including Dream Theater that weren't really known to the masses for a looooooooooong period of time... Like Dream Theater after Images And Words was only catering to people that ALREADY heard them when Scenes From A Memory came out they did start growing but even to this day a lot of people don't know who Dream Theater are. Now as they signed to Road Runners their exposure increased due to the label. You and i know Cynic be proud, they are ahead of time.
i think that the difference between the two is like what he was saying. with focus he was trying to create something new bringing forward the genre of metal i guess. TIA is calm its like they knew that they didnt really have to prove anything anymore.
c'est vraiment touchant de lire tout ces commentaires et d,entendre cette entrevue... j'étais la à Cannibal en 94 et j'ai encore le t-shirt original... Quel souvenir!
Listening to this interview is fascinating. I can't believe the way they were treated at shows. Death metal purists pretty much drove cynic out of existence. Focus was so far ahead of it's time that it took a newer generation of fans to really digest and appreciate what they were trying to do as musicians. Not just as a genre misfit, but as pure musicians. I think the new album will also resonate with future music fans and maybe someday out into the mainstream.
I would say people are just too selective for the sake of trying to find or not find something different. When I hear new music from any band, i listen with a clear mind and not the speculations of trying to impress or not impress me. Focus and TIA are very different no doubt, I was giving my opinion of peoples rants on the matter. Saying it's less or not impressive enough Greedy beings haha. Just enjoy I say.
Being a new fan of Cynic, I have to say my first listen of Traced In Air was a bit rocky for me. But every time I listened I had a sense of trying to understand what I was hearing, in thus I understood that this is some real music. It makes you think and look for the connection. Just awesome. Now I am a full fledge fan of Cynic. Then I turned my attention to Focus and again, love it. So idk what's this whole Focus vs TIA thing but it's quiet sad. Both are amazing. Hands down.
ive heard traced in air is older stuff that they finally recorded as a result of the reunion? they shouls make an all new full length as well! i just can't get enough of them :)
It's funny how instead of being a musical snob(because let's face it...he could look down his nose at a LOT of musicians) he was instead depressed and unhappy with the response from the CC fans. Which is totally unfortunate because guaranteed most CC fans LOVE Death. A lot of people find it hard to digest this music. But it's just a different head space. I dug it then and hated finding out that it was the only cd of theirs out there a year after they put it out. So glad for the re-union.
ive just read those liner notes, Pauls brother's name is Raul. haha.
Definitely there's so much soul, spirituality and skills in what they were doing back in the days (and now, i guess). their music is really the cornerstone (and it was for me, it gave an actual push to discover different things in life, first of all- yoga and jazz music)
Cannibal Corpse fans narrow minded?
Are people surprised that's a fact? Only the most narrow minded 1-dimensional metal heads would boo Cynic.
xD0NKEYx 8 months ago
@xD0NKEYx Cannibal Corpse are quite big Cynic fans. and so am I. (also a cannibal corpse fan)
WraithThorns 6 months ago
@WraithThorns
At a cannibal corpse headline, you can hear the fans booing them all through the set before cannibal corpse comes on.
I think today people are one-dimensional anymore though, which is good.
xD0NKEYx 6 months ago
@xD0NKEYx thats a shame they got Boo'd. but not all Cannibal Corpse fans are like that. im a big fan of both :)
