  • Soundgarden- Sealth (Into The Void)

The lyrics are from this speech.

  • the divergence of the western worldview from this vision, explains what is at the root of all of our destructiveness, to the earth, and to one another

  • good video but 2 "cursi" in my opinion.

  • While well-meaning, this is all based on a falsehood! Chief Seattle NEVER wrote this. Google "Chief Seattle letter fake" to find out.

  • CoHTV did write in the more info "based upon", meaning the same as inspired by. Obviously it isn't Chief Seattle's actual letter, which is much longer and more interesting. This website has a longer and more reliable version of the speech: halcyon.com/arborhts/chiefsea.html

  • Also, in the actual speech, Chief Seattle is solemn. He doesn't question the very idea of selling land, but instead acknowledges the decline of his people. He says "Your God is not our God! Your God loves your people and hates mine! He folds his strong protecting arms lovingly about the paleface and leads him by the hand as a father leads an infant son. But, He has forsaken His Red children, if they really are His. Our God, the Great Spirit, seems also to have forsaken us."

  • He says, "The white man's God cannot love our people or He would protect them. They seem to be orphans who can look nowhere for help. How then can we be brothers? How can your God become our God and renew our prosperity and awaken in us dreams of returning greatness? If we have a common Heavenly Father He must be partial, for He came to His paleface children. We never saw Him...

  • ...He gave you laws but had no word for His red children whose teeming multitudes once filled this vast continent as stars fill the firmament. No; we are two distinct races with separate origins and separate destinies. There is little in common between us." This differs from the reading here of "One thing we know, there is only one god, we are brothers and sisters, children of our Mother Earth after all".

  • The actual speech ends with, "Let him (the white man) be just and deal kindly with my people, for the dead are not powerless. Dead, did I say? There is no death, only a change of worlds."

  • BUT I should also point out, the existence of the speech is dubious, as there is no existing physical copy to use as verification. There have also been various historians offering evidence suggesting the speech is a fabrication. Of course, that's not to suggest this message isn't poignant itself. There's no reason why we can't propagate our own wisdom for the world to enjoy. We all have words as a tool, we need not always rely upon the rhetoric of ancestors, accurate or not.

  • chief seattle is a wonderful man of nature, thanks for the video

  • bring back the ghost dance

  • If there were a Pow Wow in Washington, I would support it. Thanks for producing this video.

  • im pretty sure american indians didnt believe in ''one god'' obviously some christians altered this speech at one point the idea of ''god'' does not fit into the speech atall

  • @hoboguru One god...... the CREATOR!

  • Seattle was a truly philosophical and prophetic man and should be treated as such. His messages of stewardship were way ahead of their time and stemmed not from some scientific statistics but out of the Indian transcendental connection with nature that so many arrogantly and ignorantly dub primitive religion or mystical bullshit.

  • I feel the fact that it may not be what Chief settle said is not very relevant . This is so because of the knowledge we have gained about the interrelationship of all natural processes and how extensively interdependent ecological systems are altered by our destructive behavior. We want health and prosperity and then get so angry when told our very success is our own undoing. Admonishing someone for saying chief settle wisdom is a created modern myth is silly and stupid.

  • this speech really is fake... i'm sorry but it is. it's completely fabricated and was never said by Chief Seattle. It's a nice poem, but it's from the 70's so it's not historical. The saddest part is that when someone tried to point that out in a very gentle way people told her to go fuck herself, instead of looking it up for themselves to see if maybe she had a point! wow!

  • This was written in 1972 by Ted Perry for a film called Home. There is a controversy about the speech. What is now accepted as the 'real version' appeared in the Seattle Sunday Star on Oct. 29, 1887, in a column by Dr. Henry A. Smith. You might want to check the Bureau of Indian Affairs if your interested in looking it up for yourself.

  • @nic1545 it may be fake but it is pretty smart.

  • What the US did to the Native Americans was genocide. We had better learn something from them before we ruin our planet forever!

We are merely a strand in the web!

  • Chief Seatlle is my great great great great grandpa. And im very proud of it :)

  • This will sure help me in tomorrows exam.

  • this is wisdom

  • my name is chief seattle

  • my name is chief seattle

  • Thank you for posting.

  • Does it matter if Chief Seattle's speech has been embellished or altered. The truth is the more science finds out about ecology and the interrelationship of all biological systems the more we see the destruction we have anointed the earth with.

Do we have the right to do this ? We have the same right as a virus has to kill it's host. We breed like viruses and wonder why we have problems. We are suppose to be intelligent. Like any species all natures rules apply to us. What ever the result.

  • @jobedied Will you be the first to sacrifice himself then?

  • @machwon Where does your paranoid mind come up with the need to sacrifice oneself. Do us all a favor and do not breed any children, your spawn would likely have your disease. You seem to be just more pollution.

  • @jobedied You seem to hate people and think we are a parasite. Will you be the first to show your compassion for mother earth and freeing her of the burden of your life sucking existence?

  • Our love sets each part of our natural life to its correct place in the whole. That is best for all, for us - also if we are purely selfish: it is the best option created by God or the winner in evolution's competition.

  • hey cassiDYE...whom ever said it.. its right so plzz.... shhh...u love propaganda i see.. ;)

  • This is one of my favorite speeches of all time.

  • The speech was made up by Ted Perry, a screen writer for Home, a 1972 film about ecology. The fake speech was also used in a children's book, Brother Eagle, Sister Sky: A Message From Chief Seattle, issued in 1991. A man named Dr. Henry Smith published his recollection of Seattle's speech in 1887, 33 years after it was given. According to Smith, Seattle praised the generosity of the President buying his land.

In other words, I'm sorry to say, the Chief Seattle Speech is fake.

  • Al Gore also used the Fake Speech in the 1992 book "Earth in the Balance."

The fake speech sounds nice and makes good points about stewardship and such, but it is important to realize the origin, so we don't propagate untruths. Peace

  • Your a dumb fuck you dont know anything your saying.

  • go fuck youreself... >:(

  • Video Fantastico!

  • It is unfortunate that they could not see past the dollar signs

  • I agree paledoe. It would be fortunate if we could live without the dollar sign now

  • Muchísimas gracias por transmitir la sabiduría del gran jefe poeta.

  • I found this speech in Joesph Campbell's "Transformations of Myth Through Time", and it's message (more or less) is repeated throughout many ancient myths of early human. Seems as cultures get more complicated, so do the popular sub mythologies and religions address new issues of right and wrong. Too often they all forget about the basics; hopefully if we survive globalization, these core concepts, a reverence for life as Albert Schweitzer puts it, can get back to the majority. Good Video

  • these are good words of wisdom that we all need to understand.

  • no thing is separate from anything else physical or biological

interesting that native americans knew this before quantum mechanics proved it. Hope this lesson will be passed on to our culture,if not we may perish because of our hubris

  • Great words of wisdom and so true!

    janok

  • I emphasized these words because words have POWER.

All Myths, creation stories, etc. ( Words) Are where and how Human consciousness encounters Their own creative TRUTH.

"God is the word... and the WORD IS GOD."

Try wrapping your brain around that concept for awhile.

    Aloha.

  • A very beautiful video with a message of truth. It brought tears to my eyes. I wish all the people could understand this but most just want to rape the earth for personal profit. But mother Earth will punish us for our transgressions. Just like those poor people recently killed in Arkansas and Tennesee (God rest their souls). The Earth will rise up against us if we do not do the right thing.

  • We own all our mistakes ,everyone of them is a mistake against all. We have some major corrections to make. We can make it, or brake it.

  • i read a book bout this it was so cool my grandma takes me to this native american festival i luv it. i luv how native americans think......... im asian so i guess im part native american and im adopted from korea but im still korean

  • What He sad is beautiful and true. I hope he is

with us like an Angel and watch for us and our Mother Earth.

  • i adore native americans...so naive so peaceful so nice people...

  • Since when did sanity and wisdom become naivete?

  • I read this many years ago and have it on a poster somewhere - great words of wisdom.

  • It's a wonderful speech and Joseph Campbell highlighted it in the power of myth, but there is a dispute as to whether these are the words of Chief Seattle.

  • Mythological TRUTHS are always disputed; by those that reject their own spiritual RESPONSE-ABILITY.

These words force One to RE-COGNIZE (re-think) their true relationship to CREATION.

For most in the western way of thinking; this is a very uncomfortable experience.

It is easier to ignore the message and focus on the Messenger.

    Thus; remaining IGNORE-RANT.

  • Good job, too many people are unaware of the real roots of the words they use when they (words) often get perverted into negative things over time. My favorite one is ability to respond; suddenly it's empowerment rather then something you must do, or ELSE.

Keep speaking. Spread words. God and Devil are both in the details.

  • Muchísimas gracias por transmitir la sabiduría del gran jefe poeta.

  • Big Medicine For All to draw upon and Share!

Honor and Respect to CoHTV for Perpetuating these Lessons of Life from Chief Seattle.

  • Thank you for the special and meaningful comment!

  • Keep Walking the Good Road My Friend!

  • Well done. Beauiful pictures and good narration.

    Who made this?

  • Thanks! I produced this video for Earth Day.
