I think I've come up with a good definition of emo:Hardcore or hardcore influenced music with deeply personal, often abstract lyrics, melodic(for hardcore) singing and guitars and song structures that build and release tension as the song goes on. Frequently includes arpeggiated guitars and use of distortion/chorus effects but this is not necessarily required.

Indie is everything thats not apart of an major lable. Emo is a lifestyle and clothing line ,and will never be a type of music since Post-Hardcore is the genre for this type of music. This band is Post-Hardcore... If you don't know what that means learn something

Husker Du is a Hardcore Punk/Post Hardcore band who played in the 80's. Obiously the genre now is different :)

Any confusion that this band is emo might stem by the fact that the American distributor of their music is Deep Elm Records who are known for their Emo Diaries compilation albums.

It may also come from the fact that the band has confessionalist lyrics and a post-punk/indie sound similar to other bands influenced by Sunny Day Real Estate.
