Warren DeMartini used to live with Jake and they would practice together and Jake has small hands and Warren said the funniest thing he ever saw was Jake extending his reach by barring strings with his thumb and reaching up the neck with his pinky BUT Jake made it work for him and Warren said he tried it when Jake left the room and couldnt do it lol
holy shit, what is that thing at 1:11??!!! that is amazing. I am quite a professsional guitar player myself, but that thing blows my mind, its the way he plays it, his style
@EmotionalShredd Looks like he's barring a bunch of frets with his thumb or something to get a little extra reach! I find playing like this so much more interesting and soulful than all the sweep picking you hear all the time now. It's cool trick but people seem to think that's ultimate thing in guitar playing... speed, speed, speed with zero soul. Just an opinion...
@TheNonautomatoN agreed. I never likes sweeping anyway and don't realy use that technic, I do it a bit in the steve morse way with alternate picking but doing basically triads. and that's why i like jake e. lees style so much, because he doesnt need a vibrato system doesnt sweep and has soul.
