It all sounds like a v8 to me... Just because the first clip is running higher rpm's people seem to mistake it for a 4cyl but if they ever ran down the drag strip and got in the high range of their engine they might recognize the sound.

Thanks Micheal, some people dont have a clue aye, i mean, i'm sure i could have mistaken a Pinto for a V8 when i was sitting in the co-drivers seat in that clip, and also im sure the owner of this car would go to all the effort of engineering in a V8 (also as seen at about 4.30 into your V8 video 18 odd years ago) to then change it to a pinto for this clip, but then be seen again with a V8 at the hanmer rally

@sneakybacon13 no pinto here, i'm guessing the original 2 liter 4 cyl, webber carbs..the usual stuff....the second clip is for sure a V8, i'd say the first video mas made before the v8 came in.....( or the other way around, whatever the order)

Nice job, but i wonder is a V8 really a good idea for a MK1 Escort rally car? I reckon a hot 4-pot might be the better option since a lighter car will have better handling balance, perhaps higher corner speed, superior suspension control over undulating surfaces and can you really make effective use of a V8's torque on loose surfaces? Just wondering...

i think back in the day there were a few sucessful V8 escort rally cars, but i agree a hot 4cylinder would likely be quicker.
