It's just easier when you have to be frontman, vocalist and lead guitar to let play solos sb else. he's not even always lead guitar. he's just making atmosphere, cooperating with croud, making concerts so amazing. why he should be worried about riffs and solos if he can just be himself and... @xdangerguy No, They have used Jason White (Guitar) for the last 10 yrs as a touring member, also seen in the video for Wake Me Up When September Ends. Jason Freese (Percussion) has been used since at least 2004, when he toured with them during the American Idiot tour (Bullet in a Bible). And Jeff Matika (Acoustic) joined to tour in 2009, just for the 21st Century Breakdown tour (Including all live TV performances) and then obviously the 3 main guys are there all the time!!

Who really knows if Jason wants any more attention then he gets. Billie could, if he had to, pull all the weight of playing lead (keep a rythem player tho), main vocals and Frontman but it's unrealistic to think they could do the massive tours like that. It would kill him.That's why Jason's been with them for so long..besides that, their friendship goes back a long way. If Jason were unhappy with his position in the band,they'd have worked something out..I LOVE the contrast of the two on stage!

Listen to Green Day's older songs. I suggest Why DO You Want Him and Dry Ice. listen to the guitar solos on them, and I think that they will change your opinion.

Bare in mind that Billie Joe was only in his late teens / early 20's when he recorded some of them, and even earlier when he wrote them.

@AVSGreenDay I know where ur coming from I play a lot of Green day songs on guitar (playing solos) and I will still be playing and singing at points that u dont see BJ do but it is not like he doesnt do ANY solos anymore if you watch the live vid for KNYREN you see both BJ and Jason play solo bits and in 21CB same thing I think playing in a band with multiple guitarists you gotta have that give/take so everyone has their moments + Jason playing some of the solos allow BJ to interact w the crowd

@iamgelo19 Jason has never been an official member of the band. Fans accept him as a real member and for me he is , but he has never left the band in 1994 because he started to work with the band in 1999.

Greenday has been really good friends with jason for a very long time. The only member that has left the band was Al sobrante and back then the band was called Sweet Children , in 1990 Tre cool replaced Al sobrante and since then the band is called Green Day.
