The intention of Rock Band is rhythm-based match the color gameplay with a guitar, drums, and mic to mimic the lyrics and melody while Wii Music was intended to use different instruments to improvise notes in songs to make it sound different and/or better; yet Wii Music is the more casual game?

yes as all it requires you to do is move around while pressing different buttons... guitar hero and rockband both require more work and it is possible to miss a note in them unlike wii music where you cant miss a note and wii music is made so that everyone can play it from a little kid to your grandma... that makes it casual as its a game you just pick up and play without much work or getting into it... almost everygame on the wii is casual expect for some exceptions zelda,metroid etc.wii=casual

Actually, you can miss a note like GH/RB. The difference is, it isn't noted straight in front of you because the purpose in Wii Music is improvisation; like GH/RB, Wii Music has the ultimate goal of sounding good, but the former is more streamlined due to being rhythm based.

Like the plastic guitars' color coded buttons. However, the difficulty in it is getting some more faster-paced notes in some songs of GH/RB's setlist; Wii Music also has a (less obvious) difficulty in trying to symphonize an orchestra together without making a complete mess.

Very little of that footage sounded anything like music. Also, I agree with Game Informer's review...What problem is this supposed to solve? Casual gamers and non-gamers LOVE traditional music games with real gameplay! They get intimidated by traditional style controllers, but they'd be willing to strap on a plastic axe or step on a dance mat and give something a shot. And those games are far better than waggling like a maniac. I'm a Nintendo fan, but that doesn't mean I enjoy them BSing us.

Wii Music is no different from select other genres of gaming; it benefits, yet suffers from its pick up and playability; noobism in just flailing around trying to sound good is just as bad as button mashing in fighters or going in like Rambo in shooters; it'll get you far, but you probably won't get very good that way.

Of ALL of the games Nintendo has released for ALL their consoles, the ratio of great/good games to horrible/crappy is about 78-22. With a vast majority of the "great" games consisting of Nintendo's best selling and most appreciated franchises i.e. Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Donkey Kong, and yes... even Pokemon. However, on the other end of the spectrum would be games like: Superman 64, Aquaman, and Super Pitfall to name a few.

While I will agree that Wii Music is not worth $50, people do need to stop calling it a "game." It's not a game, it's a music maker. Well, music maker like thing. It's something that's meant mainly for families to play with anyway. It's not like Nintendo is expecting hardcore gamers to buy this. If Wii Music bothers you so much then just wait until 2009, then we'll be getting the good stuff. Heck Miyamoto has already said that a new Zelda and Pikmin are in thew works. The reverse is true. Wii Music gives you the ability to change the songs, from changing each instrument to adding to it or even taking bits out. GH and RB pretty much only allow you to follow pre-existing songs to the note, with no freedom.

2) The only way yhe game can be done with MIDI. MIDI is a technology, not an audio codec. MIDI allows interactive audio with instant reactions - the game requires it.

I'm actually 19, but I did used to play on my brothers NES, then had an N64, then the GC.

I've been a lifelong Nintendo fan, and feel nowhere near betrayed. Fun is subjective, but I don't see how Wii Music, in everything I've seen of it, isn't fun. This very video seems to show the player (a musician no less) having fun with it. Theres already been a review, which gave it an A-, and most other previews have been positive.

It's still fun. Perhaps it's your definition of fun that's changed.
