@ShredableGuitar Countering anything requires good timing and responding before the lock is fully applied. Never discount the value of an accurately applied strike as a counter to any lock or hold either. In reply to your specific question: As the standing straight arm bar usually has the person applying the hold alongside of you, one way is to try to step behind his leg(s) with the same side leg as the arm being locked, and charge your body weight towards him so that his weight shifts onto...
@pugilistica ...his further side leg. Now scoop his nearside leg up with your free arm in order to knock him totally off balance. As you do that you should also try to roll your locked arm over, so that the elbow is bent. Now wrap that arm around his waist from the front at the same time as you scoop his leg up off the ground. I hope you can understand that description?
I have been studying Wally Jay's small circle Jujitsu. Your teaching covers most of what Wally Jay teaches, but you appear to go into many more variations and in-depth.
@johnny102marvin I like variations, and different finishes, because it allows me to flow in the direction of the resistance or energy I receive. I also enjoy teaching those principles and concepts to my students.
This is prettty much like watching a russian systema class.Your methology is very similar
So you concider yourself a straight up selfdefence intructor following no particular style?
I ask this because I plan to be a paid professional self defence teacher however everyone seems preoccupied with a set style or the name of your style.
@NewZealfighter Thanks for your very kind comments. I also have some connections and training in JKD. At our Academy we use the term 'Integrated Fighting Arts', but if you want me to name an art specifically, I'd probably use 'Kali-Silat'.
nice so if I wanted to be certifield to teach professionally then should I look into the term intergrated fighting arts or would I go to a local law enforcement agency?
Who are the people that say yes your certifield to teach?
and I guess I would call the program an Intergrad Fighting Arts self defence and in my case a background in systema
@NewZealfighter I'm not sure what country you are in, so I can't really comment on what is required for you. I have a background of over 37 years study and training in the martial arts, and am fully qualified to teach five different systems. Which is why I feel further qualified to combine and / or integrate training methods and techniques from those different systems.
@NewZealfighter Thanks for your comments. I consider myself to be a multi-cultural and multi-discipline practitioner nowadays. The individual techniques can be found in many arts from different parts of the world. My background in joint-locking is primarily in Hapkido-Kuk Sool, Kali-Silat, and Sambo.
How do you counter a straight armbar takedown?
