That may have been great 3+ years ago, but now it is better to build a Mini-ITX case. I would defiantly use a SSD drive for performance, lack of noise, and power conservation.
Nice video, Check out my videos about Home Wind and Solar system intalling on the Rooftop. On Earth Day I won a green design contest for my home energy system the RoofMill. Have a look at my home wind turbine videos of installing and running Hybrid Energy Systems. Friends and Subscribers Wanted. Have a good day , Thanks, Sam
the via pc didn't have a 3d card in it unlike the mid range one. they didnt show playing any video game where it can draw the maximum power or encoding videos. on top of that via built-in graphic doesnt even support vista Areo theme which requires Pixel Shaders 2.0 minimum. therefor in my view this wasn't a fair test.
Indeed interesting with a computer that doesn't consume more than an ordinary llightbulb.
You could boost its performance, since you're only using 1GbB of RAM, you could go for a mini-ITX motherboard, and use SSD-drives, to boost performance and lower power-consumption even further :-) then you could possibly even do just as advanced things on it as on the mid-ranged PC at the side.
I found 2 gig's off ram to be on the low side already =/ Vista is VERY ram consuming apparently. The pc build here is very good for office work. For video-editing, 3d-modeling or more serious gaming it's kind of a laugh. But I'd say that every office should run pc's like these.
there louder yes... but sens it was build the best low power system. it does not state anything about the noise :D
im into a project like this my self. im ganna go on it in an diffrent approch doing it with stock of the shelf items. my target is under 100watts consumptions with an dual core 4gb ram machine running as an router/firewall for my network.
fantastic show. I'm guessing Fiona Gatt (the presenter) is wife to John Gatt (the Editor). Its a cool idea to make your own show like this. one person presents, writes the scripts; and the other shoots it, edits it, and produces set props for the show. I like the idea allot~!
Check out VeryPC. They have been delivering less than 30 watts for sometime. Their Greenhive product is around 10 watts per user. Brilliant for schools as it's silent and doesn't chuck out any heat.
excellent. There is a definite need for these kinds of machines! P2P, file sharing, efficient routing, media hosting/streaming, home email/web hosting are all examples of what these kinds of machines are ideal for.
I see what you are trying to do with saving energy on computers for schools, uni's etc but having such a low wattage/under performing system for home use is just not practical. We all need a decent processor, GPU to cope with our applications. I wonder what Intel's new 45nm chips would do on this sub 60w system. Im sure if you got in contact with sytem manufactures such as HP they may use these types of systems for budget builds.
I want one....I want one, I want one, I want one, I want one, I want one, I want one, I want one, I want one...., I guess you get the idea. Great job VIA as always.
rateing of 2.0? no thanks.

60 watts VS what for an average Desktop tower?

i find this slightly disturbing

better to just buy a netbook. Less power and you get a screen and a battery.

go for VeryPC BE (37W) or Treeton (30W) machines. This is what you call GREEN :)
zweivierzwei 4 years ago
Why go single core,
I've just looked into the VeryPC treeton and its dual core and 29.6W. Plus it won a PC pro award.
pete1024 4 years ago
How about a pc that runs on 29.6w
Google verypc ltd
It's called the Treeton,
Or there is a system called "Greenhive" that uses 9w per user, google this too...
