@vipsanchez Na, all the other were not unknown...Michael Des Barres their british singer was a child actor and play in some movies in the 60s and 70s...His father is from a Noble family (of long ago French origin)...but he only grew up with his mother...even if he was officially called at birth Marquis Michael Des Barres... He then became the singer of Silverhead ...a heavy glam rock band who made 2 respectable albums in 1972 and 1973 ...then he arrived in america in 75 and formed Detective...
Rumor has it that Robert Plant was taken aback as to how much the drummer (Jon Hyde) resembled him ! They were definitely backed by the Led Zep. organization. Also the singer Michael Des Barres was a child actor and starred in to sir with love with Sidney Poitier ! Too bad their songs are not available on I-Tunes.
I seen them in Feb 78 open up for KISS at the Hollywood Sportatorium Hollywood, Florida. These guys rocked but KISS blew them away. There was a riot at that concert when the lights went out as KISS took the stage. The concert was sold out and 2500+ KISS fans crashed the gate. I'll never forget that night because it was outrageous.
@MasterWitchDoctor The Hollywood Sportatorium was the worst venue ever ! I went to see three dog night there opening act was T-Rex ! Marc Bolan played two songs they had electrical problems and shut the rest of the concert off. We were supposed to get refunds but of course never did .
If some of you did not know this, Detective, was released on Led Zeppelin's own Swan Song label. Also, you have not noticed, this is Detectives version of Led Zeppelin's KASHMIR. Just listened to the drums and guitar. If I am not mistaken, from what I have read, Detective was encouraged to sound as much like Led Zeppelin as possible. If this is not proof, I do not know what is. By the way, this is a good song.
It's a great album. They put them out on tour with Kiss, and that was like when they put Hendrix as opening act for the Monkees, the klds were out getting a hot dog during their set. Those of us who saw them at small clubs in '77-'78 know.
"I'M ON FIRE....BAABY !" Totally ROCKS ! IN CONCERT...you'd be out of your SEATS. 78 @ the Golden Bear, Hunt. Beach & Santa Monica Civic...w/ Pat Travers ....I had a BLAST !!
@cella61 ...umfffff it seems to be better than a teenager of the mid or end of the 80s...i can't even imagine how horrible it was for them... ah ahah ahahh
@SKOTP69 so you were not listening to motley cruel hehe ... or not so good Dire Straits mid 80s stuff !? ... or was it even worst ...some hair metal bands like Poison or Halloween... this was the end of rock n roll ...even the once good Judas Priest lose their way after 1984 ...and there's plenty other exemples...
@BohemianConspiracy Oh yeah, most of that was terrible, and anyone who knew knew that! (Brothers In Arms was good though!) However, there was a lot of good things going on mid-80's. I mean from 1984 and 1985, which were the last truly great years, through 1986 to 1987. There was good stuff happening, and it was at that nexus when we could draw upon and love all of the magnificence (be it mainstream or underground) of the 70's ad early 80's, but before things went truly wrong in the late 80's!
@BohemianConspiracy Late 80's were bad, but no, the mid 80's were the BEST TIME EVER to be a teenager!!! The magic was still all around, and we could draw directly on all that greatness of the 70's and early 80's!!!
