  • So true.

  • Can anyone tell me what this cool programed light show named?

  • nice video

  • good video

  • its easy and very handy in the road.

  • girl has a nice ass-i mean bike

  • we could employ millions by having bicycle power generation stations rather than nuke plants!

    ;)

imagine a world built around bicycles instead of cars / trucks / trains / air...

i would love to ride my bicycle for a living...like a long haul courier:)

    speedy delivery!

  • excellent video

  • "Just because a safety device can reduce injuries doesn't mean everyone should wear it" - correct, but that's not what we were arguing about.

"... just because a safety device can reduce injuries doesn't mean it is rational to use it" - totally wrong, a safety device reducing injuries is the point of a safety device. it's what makes it rational to use. it's what justifies it. maybe you need to check those words in a dictionary.

And WHY are you still talking about car helmets?

  • @heavyboxes We were talking about compulsion - I mentioned it in my first post to which you responded. You also stated that "it's stupid not wear a helmet". There are many instances where a safety device might reduce injuries but people do not consider it rational to use that safety device at all times. Would you wear a life vest when you go swimming in the ocean? No, it would be an irrational action, because the risk of needing it is so low, even though it MIGHT save your life.

  • hot chick

  • awesome. love bikes.

  • was that Ryan Higa @ 2:03?

  • Cool, especially the last scene. A street with no cars!

  • Bikes are quiet too and a quiet environment is less stressful and less stress means less violence. Bikes are wonderful.

  • yes bicycle makes life better so does eat less and exercises every day :)

  • i believe this video was promoting the thrill of riding a bike. not the thrill of wearing a helmet, so bitch off!

  • everyone mentioned helmets, but no one mentioned the fact that the cyclists were watching the wall instead of whats in front of them....... on the sidewalk! I like the concept though. Horray bikes.

  • @totoroben agreed.. plus most of them were missing lights on their bikes (one dude had a rear light and the chick had a front light).. even though it was night time. If you're gonna promote cycling at least show people doing it in a safe and legal manner. Nothing worse than nearly colliding with some Darwin award nominee who is out cycling the streets without lights at night time.

  • helmets are for accident prone people.

  • All that work to make a video promoting cycling, and no helmets on anyone?? Fail.

  • i love it ^___^

  • This is a sign that the world's natural oil supply is running thin. They are preparing the US.

  • @majorgeneraldespair2 Oh, so your argument is potholes? You do realize with less car traffic there would be significantly less road damage right? And who the heck said anything about hairstyles? Obviously you haven't ridden a bike enough to know that WIND would ruin your hair alone. It's about the freedom to choose! Even if biking without a helmet isn't safe, that doesn't mean you can come to a video about the joy of biking and act like a total jerk. Move along now.

  • please respect the riding rules, safety first. respect the pedestrians. and pedestrians please respect the rights of bikers....

  • GREAT PEICE OF ART IT REALLY SHOWS SOME THIING!

  • hur in da north georgia moutains we tri to run ovur two wheely peopleeeeeee when dur in ourouruoruor whayyyy

  • @JBarPlaysDrums Did you not wear a helmet?

  • @gzlsn only when I takes a doody!

  • @gzlsn Cyclists should wear a phrygian cap instead of a helmet.

  • I can not stop watching this. It make me feel incredibly happy.

  • Nice. I bike nearly every day! Errands, exersize or just for the joy of it.

  • this was the best promoted video i ever saw!

  • @majorgeneraldespair2 He means that the pro-helmet argument distracts from the fact that without reckless activity we wouldn't need helmets. While I don't necessarily agree with that statement, it's obvious you missed the point of his comment.

  • Bikes are great in every way, but no one has a right to ride without a helmet -- so long as the rest of us are paying for his medical treatment.

  • THIS WAS TRULY HOMO

  • Good stuff! Check out the videos at the Bikeskills Channel. Learn from the best. Subscribing enters you to win FREE gear, currently a FOX Racing Shox fork!

  • @bruced999 Thank you Bruce. Very well spoken argument. Seriously, I really do appreciate the legitimate response. :)

  • Why do people need to ride lame ass vintage bikes? Modern bikes are just fine and doesn't scream "hip" and "look-at-me; look-how-quirky-and-creative-I-am-in-my-personal-life"

  • OMGSH!! There were ppl standing in this video without helmets on . . . !!! lol

    THIS IS AN AWESOME VIDEO!!!

  • BLA BLA BLA BLA BLA HELMETS BLA BLA BLA DANGER BLA BLA BLA SAFETY

  • our culture should include cycling. Lets get people riding and worry about helmets and their intended safety benefits later.

  • Sad how messages about love get lost on the mood swings of other.

  • I WAS A BIKE MARSHALL IN NEW YORK, AND SEATTLE HAS ONE OF THE BEST SAFE BIKE TRAILS INTHE COUNTRY, HURRAY FOR WASH. STATE THERE IS ALS THE MS BIKE RIDE FROM, L.A TO SAN DIEGO, L.A TO SAN FRANCISCO, HOUSTON TO AUSTIN, WASH DC TO NEW YORK , ATLANTA TO FLORIDA, MINNESOTA TO MICHIGAN, JUST TO NAME A FEW,I M HERE2BEABLESSING ESPECIALLY ON THIS MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND PINMAN OUT

  • I live in the city and seen fatalities and serious bloody head injuries of cyclists not wearing helmets. You never really think you need one until it's too late to think.

  • The more I think about it, the less I like this attempt to make biking a "cool brand" through the use of projected fish. But I guess that the point with marketing, you're not supposed to think about it.

  • Helmets, improper lighting equipment on many of the bicycles and riding on sidewalks are all Safety issues with this film. Whether you are a fan of such safety items is not as important as the fact that many serious riders are offended by this video and are withdrawing their support of People for Bikes. Personally, if I could withdraw my signature from the petition, I (and many others I know) would do so. I am more interested in supporting bike safety than art!

  • i thot it was a BP commercial. the graphic was suspicious. i do like bikes. and such.

  • "Please like my Facebook page :-) Just click on my channel

    Pretty please

It is my project page for a class, greatly appreciate your help!"

  • @GARGANT01 no

  • a bicyclist spit on my windshield cos he thought i purposely gave little space on the side for him, and couldnt do anything cos i was stuck in traffic. same with my friends but different scenario. bicyclist in chicago are smuggy douchebags.

  • @bruced999 I should clarify, it does do shit for fitness. It's a lot of work. Regarding the environment, the burden of proof is really on you. Can you point to a statistic that proves what bicycling has done to save the environment or how it reduces environmental problems?

I take the freeway everyday but believe it or not, most businesses aren't strung along side the freeway. You have to navigate to them. Recommending I slap myself? Who needs anger management now? lol

  • Biking is fantastic! It gives you a sense of freedom and makes you feel good. I find it horrible to drive cars.

  • Agreed. In the summertime, I ride my bicycle to work. It is a great feeling.

  • @Zimsbuisnessisdone I think the part he "missed" was that you made the conclusion to your argument in regards to only one side. Maybe next time when you venture so far as to call a group of people stupid, you should consider why it is there is even an issue before you merely blame the entire problem on what sounds like nothing more than an assumption. Maybe next time, and to build a stronger argument, you should consider both sides of the problem instead of brushing one off with an excuse.

  • Awesome!!!!!!

  • please mention city technos utility benificial effect to a life- I mean for single man get all in city for life working man task / work horse

  • Those people arent wearing helmets.

  • @Zimsbuisnessisdone and drivers need to watch for cyclists who belong on the road. a large burden of care lies with the person in control of the 3500+ lb vehicle. of course cyclists need to be careful, but that doesn't make up for people who even consider "run[ing] them of [sic] the road."

  • If only those goddamn cyclist learned how to bunnyhop up a curb there wouldn't be soo much carnage. Be a man, BMX!

  • NKK!!

  • @Zimsbuisnessisdone i didn't make a typo, i emphasized it. cyclists belong on the road, legally and logically. if something goes 15-25 mph and weighs 150+ pounds, it doesn't belong where people walk. i drive as well, and i respect cyclists rights. nothing you do is so important that you can't wait a few seconds to drive around cyclists. if it was that important, you should have left home earlier. no one likes impatient people. not everything revolves around you, sorry.

  • plan on getting another here soon

  • The name of the song is "A Slight Return Home" from the band: Woodpigeon. Off of their 2008 album "Songbook". None of the comments so far name the song, so thumbs up if you liked the song!

Also interesting, the same song was used to 're-cut' a trailer of Ferris Bueller's Day Off into an introspective film. search youtube for it.

  • @LJsurfer2002

Thank you very much!! ^ ^

  • four people don't know how to ride a bike.

    great vid. :)

  • @Zimsbuisnessisdone what was that word you were trying to spell in your screenname? buisness? and it's about as likely a cyclist gets hit because the driver wasn't paying attention. funny how for some people the coin doesn't flip both ways. i think your point is lost from that alone.

  • I really love the posts from the tough guys driving monster trucks because their TMI is below average.

  • This video is very cool.

  • @Zimsbuisnessisdone I drive a truck and seriously...considering doing it on purpose on a few occasions! They're all over the road.

  • I seriously HATE bikers! I live near Seattle. Do you know how many earth-saving-bikers there are here? It's almost impossible to navigate the streets! I'm all for the environment and fitness and all that, but riding a bike doesn't do shit for it. But mostly, I don't like this video because the grammar in the title sucks. lol

  • @stivaro does your brain work?

  • @RAGEQUILT Certainly does. Quite well actually. :) Does yours? Not sure what your point is. Oh wait, is this one of those examples where someone can't come up with a logical defense of their stance so they react with immature remarks? I think so. Kind of reminds me of the time someone deleted me from their Facebook because they couldn't logically or reasonably defend their view. Of course, they had to call me some choice words before deleting and blocking me. lol

  • I think this film is bad. Bikes make us all a bunch of spaced out zombies watching lights on the wall? The metaphor is ridiculous, and the "fantasy" is out of touch with what really makes riding a pleasure - not pulling out of the world, but being more fully engaged in it. Kudos for avoiding the use of helmets, but other than that ... blech.

  • @ubrayj02 You are a douch, this is art and you just can't appreciate it, and can't recognize it. What have you done lately? Write a few douchy posts? Douch.

  • @andyvroo88 This is art (I guess) but it is also marketing. I think that the team that thought this up made a bad decision. This doesn't seem like a great way to sell cycling to people. It focuses on cycling as this "activity" and not as a lifestyle choice, it present bike riders as tuned out space cadets. It just does not work. You know what works? Errol Morris' "Alternative Fuels" ad works (google it). And it is spelled "douche", retar!

  • @ubrayj02 Biking has been tarnished by pretentious "creatives" and bike nazis

  • screw helmets ride and be free-FOR ONCE!

  • First off helmets give a false sense of security for the rider and people that drive.Secondly go to holland nobodys wears helmets.

  • Lack of helmets.

    Lack of headlights/taillights.

    Distracted riding.

    Sidewalk riding.

Why is this video celebrating shit-poor cycling?

  • The benefits of helmets are limited and overblown, so their lack of use in this film is not that big of a deal. I usually choose to wear one, but if someone simply won't ride with a helmet, I'd rather they ride helmet-less than not ride.

More questionable is all the sidewalk cycling and trick riding. What does that have to do with using bicycling for transportation instead of driving a car?

But riding at night without lights - behavior that kills 100s in the U.S. yearly - ruins this video.

  • Bikes are awesome why don't we use them more

  • Bicyclists are a light to the world. Love this film. Please, everyone, sign the pledge.

  • :P

  • where are the helmets at??

  • I *really* want to like this film but it feels like sooo much hipster posturing. No wonder there are no helmets, it's more about the fashion statement than about improving the world or your life or health.

Okay, everyone yell at me, but I've said how I feel. (And yes, I ride in the city every single day)

  • I love biking...on a summers evening it feels like flying...

but small battery LED bike lights are a must...

  • This video makes an absolutely lovely statement.

Faith in a helmet, like faith in a god, should be a personal choice and one that's kept to oneself, not forced upon others. Personally I wear a helmet because of the protection it might afford me whether I endo all by myself at 5 mph or collide with something else at a greater speed. I understand a helmet's limitations and the statement it makes, but If people elect not to wear a helmet, that's their choice.

  • Cute light show but it left me wanting to list the 10 really compelling reasons that I find life is better with bikes:

  • Im pretty sure its about how cars and busses creat polution while bikes dont.

  • Slow start

  • To all the helmet lovers: U mad?

  • very nice music

  • Great Video. Unfortunately, some people have to be shown that cycling is the in thin" to do before they embrace it as a regular mode of transport. This clip of cycling hipsters is a good start. Although, I know, a bicycle helmet saved my life, I'm not going to whine about the lack of helmets in this clip. I hope people are smart enough to wear one without being shown that it's "hip thing" to do.

  • This is absolutely brilliant. Shame about all the helmet comments. Even if you think helmets work, as far as I could tell they were all riding quite carefully and streets were closed to motors. So what's the problem?

  • All those arguing that helmets should be worn as a matter of course might want to do some research. We have had a compulsory helmet law in Australia for 20 years. The result is no discernible reduction in injuries and fatalities, but a significant reduction in the number of people riding. Australia is a country where almost all cyclists wear helmets and yet we have a higher rate of injury than most countries, far higher than almost all of Europe.

  • @misterrumpy That's ridiculous. The bottom line is that a helmet is a good idea. It can save your life. It's stupid not to wear one. The downside: a helmet won't prevent people from making stupid decisions on a bike. A lot of people don't understand how to ride in traffic and do many illegal things which can cause fatalities- helmet or not. Should people not bother with seat belts when riding in cars? There's no argument against being safe.

  • @heavyboxes A helmet might be a good idea in some situations - if you're intending to ride extremely fast, in heavy traffic, or perhaps if you're an inexperienced or accident-prone rider. For many people in many situations it's safe and reasonable to ride without one. To say it's "stupid not to wear one" betrays your own fearful and simplistic mind-set. The idea that an increase in safety is enough to justify any protective device doesn't hold up to a moments scrutiny. Do you wear a car helmet?

  • @misterrumpy You do not wear a car helmet—you wear a fucking seatbelt. Does your logic also tell you a seatbelt is a bad idea? Would you get on a motorcycle without a helmet? And how exactly does an increase in safety NOT justify any protective device? Isn't that the point of a safety device? You make no sense.

  • @heavyboxes Think about what I'm saying a bit harder. Just because a safety device can reduce injuries in the event of an accident doesn't mean everyone should have to use it, or even that it is rational to use it. Yes cars have airbags and we wear seatbelts, but many people still get serious or fatal head injuries in car accidents some of which would be prevented by helmets. We don't wear car helmets because the inconvenience is greater than the benefit for most. Same can apply to bike helmets.

  • This is a promotional video spreading a positive message about how cycling is a force for good in communities. Maybe the creative types who did this went a bit far with the bikers 'painting light with their flashlights', but, hey, it's a darn pretty video. As for the helmet thing. I used to live in Holland, the most cycle friendly country in the world, and people wore helmets for road and mountain biking, but not city biking. A practical thing. Personal choice. Natural selection!

  • Good video, I thought it was a bit cheesy at first, but it was done in good taste. I also know the website/organization is a good one too, i support their stuff for sure. As for the helmet debate: Look at how many years a person has spent riding bikes, and their stance on wearing a helmet. Everyone has different comfort levels, as well as *experience* levels. I never wear a helmet when riding/commuting in the city, as i have done for a couple of decades. But other types of biking i always wear 1

  • I love bikes, i love the freedom, and i wear my damn helmet. If you're responsible enough to protect your bike from thieves by locking it, why wouldn't you protect your noggin?

  • Anybody know who did the music for this? I love it.

  • Sorry, but I have to throw in with the "preachy" crowd. The lack of helmets stood out for me and detracted from the message. And I did sign the peopleforbikes pledge.

Disappointing, even though the message is a good one.

  • Really really awesome video.

  • This video is awesome, artistic and touching and is about freedom. I'm nearly fifty years old, never wear a cycle helmet and have been cycling since childhood...... I always wear one on my motorcycle though :-)

  • It's not a commercial for helmets or safe riding, it's a short film about the love of cycling. The video isn't here to be preachy so give it a rest, helmet enthusiast.

  • LOVE the video. I feel the same. I'm dreaming of riding on streets w/ no cars, but please ... helmets! It's true that cyclists are the victims and maybe shouldn't be necessary, but it is. My 12 year old son is alive and well with no head injuries with only a broken ankle after being hit by a car and his helmet cracking in half. He is full of joy on his bike and it gives him FREEDOM! I'm glad he's still alive (and cognizant) to be free. He will never ride w/o his helmet.

  • while it's am amazing and creative video, i was most disappointed that the video only depicted two people with helmets and they were stationary! i was hit by a car

  • Good -- but I like last year's "If I ride..." better (watch?v=jEhpUov-adU).

  • The number of helmet compulsionists that have jumped all over this fantastic little piece has really irritated me. Danger on a bike comes from cars. Helmets distract from the source of danger and put the blame on the victim. Where cycling is normal, helmets aren't. Fine, wear one, but don't berate the rest of us.

  • @little1uan I'm not berating you, I'm disappointed that the video didn't depict enough helmet use. I do, however, disagree with your cycling is norma, helments aren't stance. That just doesn't make sense. And from a personal viewpoint, I still have a scarred helmet that ended any arguments for me. Nothing do with a car. It was an accident..........they happen. Luckily, I was wearing my helmet.

  • @tigger16dy Exactly. People act as if being hit by a car is the only thing that can go wrong on a bike. It's not only children who have hit a bump in the road poorly, or taken a corner too sharply and taken a spill as a result. Accidents happen. Moreover, for those who blame the motorist, sure, that's where the blame lies in a lot of circumstances. That doesn't suddenly make your head injury less real, though.

  • @118nate Actually getting hit by a car (or truck or bus) is by and away the most likely thing to cause a serious accident on a bike. 95% of all cycling fatalities involve a motor vehicle. Yes, you can still have an accident without a motor vehicle but it is very unlikely that it would be serious, especially if you are an experienced rider. I've been riding on city streets for 20 years and have never once fallen off my bike.

  • @little1uan If you want to complain... Go complain on the internet, SOMEWHERE ELSE!

  • @derfbike, I hope you took more away from the video than just the lack of lights and helmets. This is an artist representation of the impact that bikes have on our lives. It also includes the message that bicycling can be safer in this country, as long as we build the infrastructure to protect and encourage people to ridde.

This is a wonderful video, that celebrates the joy and benefits associated with cycling.

  • Cute, I guess. But I am really irritated about all the nice city bikes that are equipped with lights, but they are not powered. And then the bikes with no lights attached, as if that little keychain LED makes you visible.

I love bikes. But I love safe cyclists even more. Don't even get me started on the lack of helmets.

  • Awesome, loved it.

  • A Helmet won't exactly protect you from a car. Second, the ONLY way to make cycling safer is to get more riders out there. I suggest you visit the Netherlands, where no one wears a helmet and no one ever gets hurt.

  • Um.... Helmets?

  • Cute video, but why is it that we don't see a single rider in a helmet until 1:47? Stay smart and stay safe out there.

  • Priceless.....

  • And shout out your ride if you like this video. Mine is a Hebb Electro Glide 500.

  • Love the image of guy riding no handed. Exactly how I feel when I ride, and I also love the cars in the background–as he leaves them behind him.

  • Where are all of these people when I'm riding my bike to work alone in Los Angeles at 5:30 a.m.?!? Lol. Very cool video tho.

  • Awesome Video....this is what it's all about. Nice Job, People for Bikes.
