In humans, researchers who understand this problem, are calling it a silent pandemic. Demodex mite causes adult acne, rosacea, countless skin diseases, baldness, and too many more to list.
The easiest treatment that many find relief from is to use a drugstore 3% hydrogen peroxide mixed with 2 parts water. Add 20 mule team borax to the solution until it is saturated and will not dissolve any more. Rinse skin two times a day and drip dry. Not in eyes.
Wiki says its rare but can happen. Other Demodex infect humans... something like 1 out of 2 people have it. Causes ache, big pores, hair loss, etc. Nasty stuff! Use a good soap! Talk to your local pharmacist or doctor for a good soap. Normal stuff won't kill them. Or contact me and I can recommend what to buy. There is all types and its $8 a bar and up. They use it on their pets too.
@MrJLee765 have you heard of demodexsolutions? frankly, i don't want to spend all that money yet, is there anything cheaper?? I heard that ponds cold cream could help. but wouldnt that clog your pores and make you breakout more?
Humans have a similar parasite that lives in our eyelashes, nose, cheeks and chin. Why it doesn't harm us but the canine version specializes in causing harm to the skin of a dog is strange.
@truvelocity Some studies show that the mites can indeed harm human skin as well. The decisive factor appears to be whether the host is immunodeficient or not, for both dogs and humans. When the immune system is suppressed, the mites can reproduce at higher rates.
@Tman376 Yes, since I made that comment, I found out that the dog version can harm humans. And... I've always known that when the immune system is not healthy, then the body is open to virus, bacteria, parasites, etc.
Demodex in dogs and cats is called mange.
