NO ONE WANTS TO SPEND ALL THAT MONEY ON A LAPTOP THE WILL SHATTER IF U DROP IT BRING BACK THE Mac Book(NO PRO NO AIR JUST MAC BOOK) RRRRRAAAAGGGGGGEEEEEIIIIIINNNNNNGGGGGG FAIL TYPING

  • u should turn off more lights , just think about it

  • I CANT WAIT UNTIL I GET IMAC !! <33

  • hahaha he points the flashlight directly at the keyboard, this guys an amateur

  • Is the MacBook Aluminum screen good? contrast and color wise? I'm not too concerned with brightness. I'm asking because I can get this model for $650 in a shop. Thanks

  • hahaha i love how you called it the blackbook at 1:46. nicee. i have the white one and it is a pretty nice computer but would love to have the aluminum one.

  • The Macbook Aluminium has been rebranded as the Macbook Pro 13 now!

  • But it wasn't a change in name only. The new 13" MacBook Pros got a little bump in processor speed from 2.0 GHz and 2.4 GHz up to 2.26 GHz and 2.53 GHz. Maximum DDR3 SDRAM support went 4 GB to 8 GB. A FireWire 800 port was added as well. And finally the user replaceable battery was changed to a non-replaceable battery.

  • @needsmedication Well everything Apple is upgraded!

  • well now you can say you have the rare version of the macbook series.

  • you do realize that there is are 2 buttons at top of your keyboard (f5,f6) turns the brightness of the keyboard up and down!!!!!!

  • Waiiiiiit... i thought the macbooks (when it wasnt named the macbook pro) didnt have the backlit keyboard? but it looks like it does here.

  • The backlit keyboard was only on the 2.4GHz model

  • @1liam192 the 2.4 ghz model had a baklit keyboard,...but the 2.0 ghz didnt...

  • i have the new macbook 10.6.1 snow leopard ^_^

  • Is that the macbook pro because it looks exactly like one.

  • No this is the 2.4GHz Aluminum early 2009 model. The only real difference between the two (besides the name change) is that the new pro model has a FireWire 800 port, an SD card slot, and can take up to 8G of ram, mine takes up to 4G of ram. The new pro models have processors at 2.26GHz and 2.53GHz.

Truthfully if I had to do it again I would have just kept my old black MacBook.

  • do i really need to spend more on the apple care or not?

  • YES! Always get the extended service contract when buying any laptop, even an Apple laptop. Fortunately Applecare is one of the better service contracts offered in the industry.

  • go mac!

  • go black macbook

  • i don't like the macbook speakers

  • I agree. They aren't very loud.

  • i got the 2008 white macbook and i love it (:

  • Do you got the new graphic card?

  • i belive u do?

  • heroes is so awesome :)

  • well i was thinking unstead of going for the 999 dollar first mac book i would go for a refurbished macbook for 1099

  • Just make sure you get Applecare ;)

  • i'm gonna do a boot up wen i get my new macbook

    its gonna be:

    my ibook

    my sisters macbook

and my new unibody macbook when it comes

I'm gonna call it generation macbook or something like that

  • I just saw it - NICE!

  • What will be better? The new one or the old one? The aluminum one is 250$ more expensive then the white one. So what is a better deal ?

  • I'd save the cash and get the white one now that they have the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics too.

  • wat year model is your macbook, is it the 2008 macbook?

  • Sorry it took me so long to respond - the black one I think was a 2006 model and I got the new one in Dec, of 2008

  • The smaller packaging is a more eco-friendly design. Apple said that they had eliminated about one third of the packaging used in their previous models, so I was doing a side by side to show the difference.

  • owned

  • i have like thw most updated leaopard mac osx 10. somthing so he souldve tried yo compare it with an apple with leopard

  • i have the macbook without back lit keyboard

  • is it any goood?

do u think the lit keyboard will be more useful?

  • I don't use the keyboard's backlight feature at all, but if you use your laptop in poor lighting it would be useful.

  • Im stuck on weather to get the sexy mac or higher performance mac :P The white macbook is a sexy beast but Im thinking ill either get the newer model in may or wait for the next model to come out for christmas..

  • IMHO the best time to buy is right after an update. Nothing is worse than finally pulling the trigger and then 2 weeks later they go and update the model you just bought.

  • been there, done that... twice unfortunately. With an iPod and a MacBook

  • WHOOP

    Heroes xD

  • Ohh, haha I just read your user name, needsmedication. well i got some Placebo's growing from a tree for ya,

  • lol, what are the chances our names would work out like that

  • Do the new Macs still have the Apple logo keys next to the space bar, or did they completely replace them with the sqarish squggily

  • Because that's going to be the deal maker or breaker for me!

  • Im not sure I understand your question. The command key is still next to the space bar. It is a chicklet design like the others, but a bit bigger. There is a good photo on the Apple website.

  • You've already got the black MacBook. I'm a BIG fan of that model and if I had to do it all over again Im not sure if I would have gotten the aluminum one. I haven't seen that big of a performance boost, but I dont play games on it. I also like the screen on the old one a lot more.

  • I meant if the Apple logo was still on the command key. But then i took a look at my MacBook then realized it's not on there, but it is on the Pro. Ohh and thanks for your quick responses!

  • they put the square squiggly

  • Hmm, that maybe a deal breaker...

  • I don't have a Radeon X1650PRO so I have no way to compare them. Id suggest taking your question to the Apple forums.

  • LOL U STILL HAVE TIGER ON IT

  • I have the black macbook and a previous gen 17" pro and i honestly like the macbook better call me crazy but it's true. They're both 2.4ghz. 4gb ram, 250gb hd

  • I've never owned one of the pro models, but I've really liked the MacBooks too.

  • Yeah, I love it so much, I'm actually selling my pro. I guess I like it because it's easier to carry around, maybe I should have just gotten a 15" Pro instead of 17"...O'well...

  • DAM! HOW MANY LIGHTS DO YOU HAVE?!

  • lol, I have 3 lamps on a track lighting, 3 more small lights on an overhead fan, one beside my desk, and one more over my desk! BUT no window. Seriously, the room is a cave without all these lights.

  • oh, okay

  • doesnt the aluminum macbook have lighting keyboard? i think someone told me that once

  • Only the 2.4GHz model has the Illuminated keyboard.

  • want to sell your black macbook

  • Im sorry but I sold it already. I had to borrow it back for a day just to make this video.

  • HEROES AMAZING SHOW

  • Hey,

Nice vid. If you were to buy your first macbook, would it be the old one, or the new one, considering the old one is $400 less than the new one (I live in Canada, so the prices are different)?

I'm asking anyone who reads this comment!

    Thanks!

  • JMHO but if you can swing it go for the aluminum one.

I like the screen on the old one better, but the new one is superior in every other way. It has a faster processor, better graphics card, uses faster ram, longer battery life and the trackpad is fantastic; plus the aluminum case doesnt flex at all.

  • Is it really that big of a difference between the two? :S

  • Maybe not right now, but new programs will take advantage of the increase in performance. I dont plan on buying again for a long time so I want the fastest I can afford. BUT dont get me wrong, the older MacBook is a GREAT machine! In fact, if you have a friend that has taken care of an older model and is selling it, you might seriously consider that one as a first Mac purchase.

  • buy the new one its much faster and better

  • the sensor is at the camera thats why the backlight doesn't turn off

  • I love the aluminium macbook! I really want it!

  • i preffer the new one i would get the pro but too exoensive nice review

  • so i guess that backlit keyboard is an awful addition. it wastes battery life and that room was very bright.

  • No it's ok after I figured out how to turn it off. But I do think it isn't needed that much.

  • great vid

  • cool vid man is their any huge internal difference in the new macbooks like as in how fast it is compared to the old one

  • I sold my old one before I really compared them, but I'll borrow it back and make another video to address this.

  • no they were taking about the new keyboard pn the pro's! dumbass

  • I have watched almost every Aluminum MacBook 13" review, and unboxings, but yours was very nice, showing the videos side by side, not talking for 5 minutes on how there is no firewire port, and i didn't realize how much smaller the packaging was. Awesome video mate =]

-PS, Can you turn off the backlight manually? So when you are watching a movie it doesn't come up. And can you change its brightness.

    Thanks =]

  • Nevermind me, You already answered it with another video, Thanks anyway =]

  • How come the screen on the aluminum macbook is so much worse that the one on previous generation macbook? Pay attention to extremely washed out colors in the bottom of the screen...

I'm considering buying either aluminum macbook or old macbook pro and the thing that pushes me away from aluminum macbook is it's screen. Though both screens are TN's, the one on the 'pro' is somehow far more superior.

  • That was my fault.

The screen only looked washed out on video because at the time I didn't know how to turn off the backlit keyboard. My camera picked up he bright keyboard and it overpowered what was happening on the screen. In person both screens are beautiful. The new one is brighter but it is glossy too and reflects quite a bit.

  • is the 2.0ghz to 2.4ghz difference significant?...is the backlid keyboard very usefull?

  • No, I dont think there is a big performance difference in the two. Eventually there will be software titles that require the faster processor, but for the most part software makers try to keep the requirements as low as possible so they can sell to wider audiences.

As far as the backlit keyboard goes, well if youve got 40yr old eyes like mine it does come in handy. :) For most people though I dont think its really necessary.

  • strange i have the same aluminum macbook with backlight and my return key is different from yours, maybe its the country difference.

  • Weird. I wonder why they would do that?

  • the macbok white.. is way better. The new one looks gay

  • I'm getting this tomorrow (I,too, have the black macbook) and I"m just wondering, it has an aluminum unibody case, will the palm rest get stained by occasionally sweaty palms, or is a protector needed?

  • I really dont think the aluminum models are going to stain like the old polycarbonate ones did. Ive only had mine for about 2 weeks now but its seen heavy use and it still looks brand new. I remember that my old black one started showing rub points and fingerprints that never went away just after a few days.

Oh, and congrats on getting one tomorrow. :) You should post a video!

  • Yea, maybe I will. Thanks for the response, though.

  • the only differences are like the new graphics and the g memory thing

btw what does 1g memory mean?

  • Other changes:

New has thinner lighter aluminum case

Old has TFT display which is a type of LCD

    New has LED backlit display

Old has WireFire port, new doesnt

New has bigger trackpad with extra gestures.

New use faster 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM

    Old use 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM

I think the 1G memory you are talking about is that new ones have two 1G sticks of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM for a total of 2G memory. Both the new MacBook and the late versions of the old MacBook can take up to 4G of memory.

  • I should point out that there are more differences with my black MacBook in the vid. My old MacBook could only take 2G of memory, it had a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and a 160GB hard drive.

For my new one I chose the faster 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor model. It also has a larger 250GB hard drive and a backlit keyboard in addtion to the other stuff.

  • oooooh thank you

but my budget only takes me to the old one sooo yeah :(

  • If your budget can handle it the old one is a GREAT machine! Truthfully the only reason I got the new one is because I won a $1299 MacBook in a local contest via a $1299 Apple giftcard. I then sold my old black MacBook and used the money to upgrade my prize to the $1599 model and buy Applecare for it.

If not for winning that contest I would still be happily using my old MacBook.

  • you are one lucky man

and yes i agree a GREAT machine.

  • the old macbook has a slight bigger screen

  • lol - uh, yeah. I finally read the manual. I even did a little video response to this one showing how those keys worked.

  • how mant lights do u have wtf

  • lol, yeah, I have a bunch of lights and there were even 2 others that I forgot to turn on! Its a windowless office so it's almost a cave without a bunch of lights.

  • lol

  • im getting a black one on christmas...I just like them better with the firewire/black...And i have an xbox360 so i dont need grafics.

  • It's a great laptop you're going to really enjoy it, and if you need FireWire it's a lot cheaper than getting a MacBook Pro! I think you're on target with gaming too. I mean, video games left the computer world for dedicated systems like the X Box and the Wii years ago. Oh sure there are still computer games but not like it once was. I remember when Best Buy had isles and isles of nothing but games, now they all fit on a couple of shelves.

  • More Pros:

*Ive seen used black ones going for as little as $800, even the 2.4GHz models, so the bang for your buck is pretty high too.

    *They have the FireWire port

*They are BLACK, I never really cared for the white ones.

*Everyone calls the case plastic but its the same polycarbonate material they use to make bulletproof glass so its pretty tough.

*This is subjective but they have a matt finish on the screen so there is no glare, actually the screens are beautiful.

  • One More Pro:

*All the black ones have Superdrives.

    Cons:

*They have the older Intel graphics processor.

*Mine got pretty warm with extended use so get a chill pad.

*The speakers arent that loud. I always plugged in travel speakers.

*Only 2 USB ports, but this is true on all of them.

The MacBook is the best selling Apple computer EVER, and theres a good reason for it. Its a great laptop.

  • Do you have any sites where i can buy them for that price and thanks for the advice LOL

  • Check eBay. Right now there are Buy It Now listings for black ones for as little as $825. Of course you should check out the buyer and use common sense. Still you can find some really good deals.

  • There are other ways to get a cheap Apple laptop. I once bought a box of Apple iBook parts from a computer repair shop for $100. I had to purchase a few extra parts on eBay like a logic board, hard drive, airport card, & some ram. By using guides from ifixit I was able to put together two 12" G3 iBooks. I sold one to a friend so they ended up costing us $225 each! The G3 iBooks are old but they can still run Tiger and for the price they couldn't be beat!

  • Please tell me the Pros and Cons of the Black MacBook

  • This will be a long post so Ill have to break it into 2 or 3 posts.

The one I had was two years old so it had a 2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and it only supported 2GB of ram. Im pretty sure the most recent models sport the faster 2.4GHz chip and 4GB of ram.

    Pros:

*Obviously the 2.4GHz one has an advantage but both versions are quite fast and capable. They both run Leapord well, as well as XP. If you want to dual boot Vista Id go for the faster one with more ram.

  • Hi, thanks for the review. I have a question. Which screen (quality wise) do you think is better. I see that the new mb is a little "wash out" or has that white glow at the bottom of the screen. Is it really that noticeable in person? Or is it the camera along with the glass screen? Thanks if you can help.

  • Ive since learned how to turn off the keyboard lighting but the screen on the new one was washed out a little by the keyboard. The screen was also on the highest setting. I dont think the highest setting on the new Mac is the best setting. To me the screen looks best when its dialed down 3 or 4 notches. I cant say anything bad about the old MacBook screen, but I do think the colors on the new one are more vibrant. The shiny quality of the new screen is undeniable, it could bother some.

  • And ONLY the 1600 dollar one has a lit keyboard. cheesy!

  • I prefer the old one a lot. :I

The new one looks like a PC. and it is NOT smaller at all. lol

  • Oh yeah, I still like the old ones too, but my favorite case was the G3 iBook. The polycarbonate material was clear and only painted white on the inside. All you needed was some rubbing alcohol and the nerve to crack the iBook open and you could mod the heck out of it. I must have done 10 of those for my friends and me.

  • I have the MacBook Pro (the one released before the latest one) and it has the light sensor as well, however there is a key on my keyboard to manually switch on/off or adjust the keyboard light.

I guess the new one should have this feature as well.

  • It does. The keys above 5 and 6 control the keyboard lighting. I was so excited that I opened my MacBook and made this video before I read the manual. :P

  • Thanks i needed this to compare my mac black with the new one! cheers!

  • Hope it helped. Im not that good with a video camera. :P

I really like the matt finish on the black MacBook better, but the screen is brighter on the new one and thats a big plus too. I guess its a personal preference.

    The new trackpad is fantastic.

  • the ambient light sensor is the iSight camera. :P thought i ought to tell you.

  • I didnt realize that lol. Im such a dork.

BUT my keys stay lit even with all those lights on unless I move the screen back to an uncomfortable angle. [sigh] The trappings of a windowless office.

Hum, I wonder if I can turn that feature off.
