  • This ad is kind of counter productive...seeing as it makes people want drugs, lol.

  • Shit I wish I did this everytime I toked up a bowl lmao

  • reminds me of scooby-doo!!

  • interesting!!!! :)

  • And that's when Shaggy moved in as the new, friendlier dope dealer you only toked up and never popped or injected.

  • Man I am high as a motherfucking kite right to fucking space!!!

  • I wish I could remix this beat, this beat is sick.

  • Such a dope beat though.

  • How does this make you not want to do drugs?

  • I think the main reason marijuana is a "gateway drug" is because (being illegal) most people have to go to drug dealers to buy it. People think "well hey, I was lied to about pot, maybe I was lied to about other stuff too" and they start experimenting beyond that.

  • @sydbarrett5 Essentially, its a gateway drug because the government makes it a gateway drug?

  • @FWTrump In my theory, yes. If it were not classified as an illegal drug then it wouldn't lead to hard drug use. Otherwise you could argue that beer leads to heroin.

  • @sydbarrett5 I have to agree with ya. Although there are ways to spike weed, there can be much better ways to control marajuania than to make an an illegal substance. Because it's a natural plant, there can be many benefits and medicines that can be made from it. They just need to control it so the more snarky dealers are less likely to get their hands on it.

  • really?

  • I liked how anti-drug adds are equally trippy and actually makes you want smoke something.

  • i like to watch this high.

  • this has a scooby doo feeling to it. speaking of you know scooby and shaggy were a couple of potheads riding around in a fuckin hippy van that was constantly smoked out and then eating shit tons of food

  • They were tripping balls when they came up with the idea for this video.

  • the drugs gotem

  • Wow! That was so cool! I wanna smoke a joint now.

  • So, do marijuana, and one day get a go-go gadget arm. Got it!

  • Gotta love how anti-drug commercials are some of the trippiest things on TV.

  • I think this makes me WANT to try drugs

  • That would have scared me as a kid.

  • They are using the, rejected, cannabis as a gateway to other drugs argument.

They are actually promoting cannabis as safe and fun (which is why the weed smoking section looks cool and chill). It is the pills that kill him, as they are addictive (which is why he can't run away at the end).

  • I don't get it at all but I got the gist of the end of this ad though.

Hey dude! Want to meet some people I know?

    Sure.

You see these people are just like you. Wasting time getting higher than kites.

    Coffin door opens.

Come on dude! Room for one more.

I think I hear my mother calling.

Awwe come on. From now on you're one of us.

One of us, one of us, one of us.

  • Hey, wait....This makes me WANT to do drugs...Damn you funky seventies!

  • Oh yeah weed totally kills...

  • The first 20 seconds of this ad I thought they were promoting drugs.

  • Drugs: Hi, kid! Let's be friends!

    Commercial dude: Ok!

Drugs: hey, look, BFF! A nice, cozy COFFIN! let's go in!

    Dude: Uh...I dunno...

    Skeletons: Joiiiin usss...

Dude: SHITSHITSHITSHI-*gets pulled in the coffin*

  • @TDImiracle That sums it up pretty nice, except it would have made a bit more sense if you had started with:

Weed: Hey kid, wanna go on an adventure?

    Commercial Dude: Sure.

    Weed: Meet my drug friends.

Drugs: Hi, kid! Let's be friends!

  • sweet!

  • That looks like so much fun!!

  • i bet they got stoned when they were writing the script for this shit. : D

  • @MultiSinoda Nah, that would mean they actually know what happens when you take drugs. Let's not give them actual credibility here. DO-HO-HO!

  • All this commercial does is make drugs look awesome

  • @Ichiboy900 lo i agree, if i was a kid and I saw this I would want to do drugs

  • @Ichiboy900 exactly total contradiction. : D

  • I love Hanna-Barbera, especially Tom and Jerry, but this fails miserably. It kinda made drugs look awesome!

  • I love how most Anti-Drug commercials are actually really awesome to watch when you're high

  • but..... the beginning makes it look so much fun.....

  • they let harvey birdman make jokes about it alot too.. given that was long after this tho

  • what year was this

  • its all of the devil remember

  • Pssst whatever, Hannah Barbera created two of the most iconic stoners in animation, Scooby and Shaggy. Those two would always hot box the mystery machine, always got the munchies, and no wonder they were always paranoid.

  • I think that you have to be high on something to come up with this commercial.

  • was this rarity aired on television, or as a theatrical short?

  • I have no Idea what happen but I will try some drugs to find out now. That looked crazy

  • I love a PSA that undermines itself by making itself trippy awesome, then trying to get "serious" at the end, the fact this was made by hanna-barbera just completely screws any chance at it being taken serious on top of that. BUT wow, I freaking love this PSA.

  • @glowingdemon I wouldn't say the ad undermines itself. Drugs *are* trippy awesome, AT FIRST. Otherwise people wouldn't get addicted.

  • If you do drugs, you become a prisoner of drugs and becomes a drug zombie which will lead to death. Many people may not get this psa. The drug zombies represent drug users that have let drugs be in the driver's seat. Drugs kills. The drugs mislead you and lie to you.

  • Anti-drug? From beginning to end, nothing ever looks normal.

  • hahaha that horns section bit at the end reminded me of any cutaway gag from family guy.

  • Damn... Now I want some drugs.

  • An anti-drug video in 1970? No way that's going to work.

  • @SergeantLuke

    it still dont work XD

  • @LegalHeroin Well, your username is "LegalHeroin", I'd say you're a little biased...

  • @SergeantLuke

not really, the sales of drugs has only gone up (maybe with the exeption of LSD)

  • The lack of text makes the message impossible to understand, unless you already know what it's all about (and in that case, it may be just too late...)

  • @becomepostal Excellent point well made.

  • It would probably work better if they told us what drug they're talking about.

  • @haseo18615 He's smoking a reefer. Marijuana, man, it couldn't be anything else.

  • um, why do they have to make anti drug psas trippy as hell?

  • Zoinks, man, where you going? Come on in and join the party!

  • awesome

  • 1970 must've been a confusing time to be little kid. Should you follow the example of your parents, or the example of your pot smoking older siblings?

  • God who needs LSD when you could just watch this Hahahaha!

  • Hannah Barbera produced animations about bears that wore clothes and kids hanging out with a talking dog while they solved mysteries. This ad has no credibility.

  • @XxiLLViLLAiNxX - And 0:27 totally sounds like part of Scooby Doo.

  • @XxiLLViLLAiNxX And the dog and his friend constantly have the munchies, I think they may have smoked too much weed.

  • @XxiLLViLLAiNxX It's called using your imagination.

  • @XxiLLViLLAiNxX I'm a cop and know that recreational drug use can be handled without destroying someone's life (and I am for legalization of many), and I also know that marijuana isn't necessarily a gateway drug for many. But I also see over the years on my precinct healthy vibrant good looking kids turn into what that last frame showed in mere months...except it ain't a cartoon.

  • @XxiLLViLLAiNxX Not to mention Shaggy and Scooby ate all the time and Yogi stole picnic baskets.

  • I want some of what hes smoking.

  • what's most disturbing to me is I'm aroused by the doob's hot legs

  • this makes me want to do drugs

  • I must be an idiot, because that psa actually worked on me. I never touched the stuff. Of course i smoked for 22 years, and i drank a lot, too. But that was all legal.

  • if you do drugs Nazi zombies drag you into "the closet"

  • Yeah.....never let Hanna-Barbera direct a drug PSA.

  • Animators: Don't do drugs, kids. *drops acid*

  • that video made me want some acid

  • was this Ralph Bashki?

  • Oh wow.....that was the trippiest thing I've ever seen Hannah-Barbera do....

  • hahhaha, tha'ts funny!

  • Today: Scooby Doo meets Sgt Friday and Officer Bill Gannon.

  • It's really pretty in an odd sort of way

  • The subtext of this commercial is: If you do drugs, you will become a Scooby-Doo villain.

  • Kinda like Ted Haggard doing an anti-gay ad!

  • Great run cycle.

  • The kid should be thanking the joint and pills for introducing him to his real friends...

Zombies always have a place to live...a closet that provides protection from those pesky pills raining down from the sky...

Zombies can be lazy...There's no need to flying around with a joint when you can just stretch you arms out to grab what you need

Zombies can always "make" new friends

and finally Zombies can get a hold the best drugs (note the syringe in the main Zombies hand)

  • @dickrammer69 Yeah, the guy should be GRATEFUL that his flesh fell right off his bones, which looked really painful ~ sarcasm

jeez, you people only say this made you WANT to do drugs more because you ALWAYS want to do drugs, you guys are frickin addicted‼ you suck everyone one of you, go back to sucking weed out of your weed man's penis and stay off of these places, faggots...

  • @robertsfunny1995

I knew it. I knew it. Now I can remember back to the first thoughts of taking drugs and wanting to become a junkie... at age 4 when I first saw this PSA. Thank you for your "expert" opinion on this important subject matter. From you comments based on my post you take life way to seriously...

  • @robertsfunny1995 Guessing from your screen name, you're probably 15... how the hell are you THAT uptight already? Geesh... spark up a bowl, you'll feel better...

  • This makes me want to take drugs. lol

  • @screamolives Everything makes YOU want to do drugs...

  • Man, dig that groovy hanna-barbera musik LOL

  • I saw this on attack of the show on g4, hilarious.

  • GROOVAY BAYBAY!!!!

  • In 1970 there were a variety of new public service ads like this one. Prior to then the broadcast networks in America blocked out any reference to alcoholism or abuse of any kind. This was the point at which the anti-war and liberation movements were beginning to have an effect on politics. SO THE MOST OPULENT POISONED OUR WATER WITH A FLUORIDE ISOTOPE OF RADIOACTIVE WASTE TO DESTROY INTELLIGENCE AND SQUELCH INITIATIVE AND SAID IT WAS "GOOD FOR US"!!!

  • @dynagravitomagnetic They touched on alcoholism a little bit before, look at Otis in Maybery. I saw a Leave it to Beaver episode about a alcoholic , drunk handyman. They took the subject seriously.

  • Wow, I didnt know they smoked blunts back then.

  • PinkFloyd+Syd Barrett’s ‘Lucifer Sam’ ripped off @15sec.

  • Wait, so that's what drugs do? Looks awesome!

  • The guy who made this was high on something!

  • this is the best pro-drug message from an anti drug PSA ever.

    good work H&B.

  • FAR OUT!

  • man i am liking the music......

  • @hifidistortion27 me to lol i wish it was more than a jingle. i want this on my ipod

  • This would have had a bigger impact if they used Shaggy instead of this guy. Still, it was trippy.

  • "Today, Scooby-Doo meets Jack Webb:

  • For a Hanna Barbara product, the animation quality is actually passable.

  • This is actually a really good PSA. It's, like, "Guys, go ahead and use your little happy drugs. It's fun for a while, but you get too far in... Uh, probably gonna end up lookin' like your friends."

  • this.. is.. SO... BOSS! Gotta get high now!

  • So...Hanna-Barbera broadcasted the show "Scooby Doo", and yet they feel they have the right to tell me not to do drugs?

  • If Hanna and Barbaera were on drugs, that would explain "Scooby Doo" and especially "The Banana Splits"!

This PSA is having the opposite effect-I want to do drugs after watching it!

Where are the anti-tequila PSA's? I've done some strange and crazy shit after drinking too much tequila!!!

  • This is amazing...

  • that was kinda cool how the joint tried to trick him into getting into the zombie closet... but yeah, drugs suck :(

  • Its written in drug.... Stay away form heroin and other adicctives is the moral here...

  • SCOOBY DOO, WERE ARE YOU!!!!!

  • That actually seems like an interesting experience.

  • Hey kid you were next to the Blue Pill, you should have taken it to get out of that bad Trip. Still Trippy

  • This would explain a lot about Scooby Doo.

  • An anti-drug PSA made by guys on drugs. The 70's rocked.

  • This makes Drugs look kool!

  • Maybe the zombies can teach him to dress better.

  • And another one bites the dust.

  • What the fuck zombies? What the fuck?

  • Wow - I have literally been searching this for years! Just now stumbled across it from a blog post. I may be mistaken, but I believe there is a longer version of this somewhere.

  • The psa is the message that if you take drugs you became a zombie and and prisoner of drugs. You also end up in a closet full of other zombies as well.

  • Comment removed

  • Notice how the cigar fell back about halfway through? Yeah he knew the closet full of zombies was coming up. Smart fucker.

  • WHAT THE CRAP

  • this cartoon looks so awesome it makes me WANT to smoke weed to it

  • they where smoking something while they were making this

  • you ever notice they're always two steps from heroin once they mention marijuana

  • It's official. Anybody who makes cartoons as goofy as Scooby Doo is going to fail hilariously at scaring people out of using drugs

  • damn, they were probably on acid when they made this

  • isn't the Flinstones owned by Hanna Barbera, the same flinstones that advertised cigarettes?

  • @Zuifan that was before they knew how harmful it was.

  • @Zuifan Yes, they are. And the Flinstones also did a PSA for the American Cancer Society.

  • @Zuifan this is for pot, not ciggs

  • @ivliuscaesar1865 Still hypocritical. Also: seven months ago.

  • @Zuifan Yep."C'mon everybody,let's be hypocritical bastards. 'This Bud's for you' "

  • you know shaggy and scooby were smoking bud in that van

  • @MaddBallsOnIce no they weren't fag... you just want to believe anything that has to do with pro-drug use...

  • @MaddBallsOnIce Yeah, Scooby Snacks=Marijuana Cookies

  • @MaddBallsOnIce hence why they were always hungry!

  • Although the visuals were nice, this video is misleading. Typical anti-marijuana propaganda of the time period. Cannabis doesn't make you hallucinate like that. And if it does, it's laced.

  • @artstar19

Then how come on shows like Go and Cheeck and Chong and That 70's show, Cannabis makes ppl hallucinate?

  • what the hell was that?

  • Man, I wish I had a Blunt that big right now

  • i bet you they where high when they made this

  • He had the Blue pill, he should have take it to get out there. also where is the red pill too

  • They got stoned in order to create this... I can bet.

  • Fuckin' trippy shit!

This is making me WANT to do drugs!!!

  • Remember kids! When you'll go buying a new wardrobe, always check if there are any zombies inside!

  • This ad is madd trippy. =)

    I'm really diggin' the soundtrack.

  • Comment removed

  • They sure picked a creepy night for a drive...now lets see who the zombie in the cupboard really is...why it's old Mr Johnson from the fairground etc etc...

  • Hipocrits.

  • Why be high when you have this trippy commercial?

  • I remember this one!!! It would come up in josie and the pussycats repeats in the afternoon (back in 1980) if the local independent channel wasn't quick enough to cut away the original vintage commercials. I was way too young to understand what they were on about but loved the artwork and music. Trippy indeed!

  • good thing they're not showing alcoholics

  • oh my hell thats funny

  • Ironically, that anti-drug ad is what my brother would call "Trippy".

  • i think they were on drugs when they did this

  • WTF just happened!?

  • this makes me want to get high its so spoony LOL

  • I'm eating Doritos now.

  • This feels like it should be the intro song to like, the adventures of zombie junkie, or some crap.

  • is the music in the back an actual song . if so someone tell me the name cause its groovy

  • lmfao! i love those pills running with that guy and taking his hands!

  • is it just me, or do all these PSAs make u wanna get high???

  • @trashEDkitty everything makes you fags wanna get high.

  • LOL Scooby scooby doo!!!!!!!!!!

  • That was stupid

  • Oh so thats why Shaggy and Scooby were always hungry and scared.

  • Shaggy scared so easily because he was constantly under threat of bumping into the Zombie Door. It all makes perfect sense now.
