That was the 'get out of jail free card'. Did you take it? Wow, just incredible!!... so much depth, so much perception, behind the simple everyday language. I've been digging in that garden for a while.....Ajahn Brahm ki jaya!
Thank you for stating the title of the American version of your book "Opening the Door to Your Heart" is "Who Ordered This Truckload of Dung?: Inspiring Stories for Welcoming Life's Difficulties." Will be ordering after listening your talk...
"Shit happens, but it usually comes from arseholes". Relaxed common languge references are why I admire Ajahn so much. A previous one for example - "If I'm wrong and the world ends in 2012 you can kick my butt". Brill. _/\_
After cancer I had depression. Only Buddhism gave me peace. I followed my bliss for years. It took me to the edge of the Universe behind my eyes. I came back to Earth to love and be loved with heart ache. No one loved me back like I loved them. They can't. I found peace in thankfulness. I control thankfulness. No one can take away my thankfulness for all I have, positive, and thankful. This year is 20 years of remission. I am thankful for all I have.
I came along, following the teaching's of Brahm, and hence the teaching's of the old forest tradition. Life in the west is hectic, the stress eventually came back again, and i almost completely gave out on Buddhist practice. I credit Brahm and his talk's for bringing so much peace and Happyness in my life, at one point i was there, i had it, this talk give's me the motivation and energy to go forth in my practice again. Thank you.
Love the definition of negative feelings as karma itself, AWSOME! and the best part of a holy life starts at 70-80 fantastic stuff. I LOVE Ajahn Brahm.
Karma comes from your mind, then it become your action. Good karma comes from good mind which has good intention toward oneself and others. It will therefore create happiness and joy and kindness. People are born with that kind of mind. It's in you and in me and in everyone. But greed and attachment blind us from that nature of us. Everyone is born a buddha. But the world and our ignorance leads us to the wrong direction.
He is so courageous to allow live-stream. Thank you for another wonderful and useful talk. One of the most insightful and impactful statement [personally], even when I tried my best, the outcome can still screw up. And that's not my fault. However, most of the time, when somethings turned bad, I feel guilty. I will bear in mind that powerful concept. I will try my best to give myself a break when things screw up. Thank you very much.
@TerrierBram True, but you can only deal with it by DOING something instead of being angry at it. Find a dung heap and try yeling at it to get out of your way. Will it move?
this could not have come at a better time for me.
spent the last 24 hrs in a dark funk, thinking "Why me?". nothing i tried could bring me out of it. a few moments with Ajahn Brahm is all it took to make me 'all smiles' again. exactly what i needed to hear today.
I consider myself a Buddhist but I am also an ice hockey fan does this go against buddhist beliefs due to the sport being fairly full body cantact(violent)? I am conflicted can one be a buddhist and a hockey fan ?
@eddtheduck79 To a certain extent. I think the idea is to investigate what it is that you enjoy about hockey? Is it the violence? Is it the skill of the players?
@eddtheduck79 i would say sure you can. Violence isnt buddhist, but buddhism is here to help people become happier. To say you can't be buddhist if you watch violent sports seems silly to me.

By action is one a farmer, by action a craftsman,
By action is one a merchant, by action a servant,
By action is one a thief, by action a soldier,
By action is one a priest, by action a king.
In this way the wise see action as it really is,
Seeing dependent arising, understanding result of action.
Kamma is translated as action.
