  • I started off listening to the soundtrack of 'Corpse Bride' and somehow ended up here...

    I regret nothing.

  • Why would this be aired on ESPN???

  • @JavaLuCpp Rock paper scissors tournament was so why wouldnt this?

  • @Oirad16 They've also shown Magic: The Gathering tournaments, although that was a decade and a half or so ago.

  • This dude is an american dumbass who is pronouncing the word in an Englisized way. Like Augustus the "u" he said it like the english short U (as in UNCLE) while in TRUE LATIN it's pronounce like oo (as in PUT). But hey, americans will do whatever they want. LOL

  • poor girl that laugh is a nervous laugh :O

  • wtf is the point of a spelling bee? does this really measure one's intelligence?

    I dont think so...

  • Nyan Cat brought me here! after going through Negus and Numnah lol

  • how do you spell that? its that

  • Numnah Bought me here!

  • Shoulda used the faint technique.

  • @verycoyman very useful technique

  • It is inkunabula, not "inkeynabYula"(incanabula). his guy has some serious problems in pronouncing latin words, i can not imagine how he could spell russian words (lol)

  • WHY DOES ESPN HAVE SPEELING BEES?!

  • im german and i spelled it correctly...

  • Hope i win on wednesday's apelling bee, ill be going, along with 7th 8th and myself 9th grade to compete agains five other schools, were supposed to be 18 (kinda small but im still nervous due to us being all spelling bee winners to get there)

  • @TheSupermario11 Good luck!

  • That was cruel ringing the bell so it sounded like she got it right. I spelled it the same way she did and I'm grown up, so I think that was a good try.

  • @ShayLee0501 The bell is *always* used to indicate that the contestant is wrong. Contestants are told this before the competition even starts.

  • i speak spanish and we call those books "los incunables"... the english word is damn weird!

  • @Bonemanbunny xD lmfao xD i saw those too

  • negus to numnuh to sardoodledom to this

  • I was in a spelling bee on December 15, BUT I LOST ON FRONDS I SPELLED IT FRONZE AND THAT WAS A SUPER EASY WORD!!!

  • "it's latin" :(

  • I wonder if there was a kid he threw a fit over losing a spelling bee....if there is one on youtube I have got to see that lol!!!

  • she was totally planning that. boo

  • BUNCH OF NO LIFE NERDS

  • @xHDFuZe no just smart people who like to challenge themselves

  • @xHDFuZe u seem like a no life nerd seems how ur here watching it...

  • The first second of this video made me LOL. Incunabula! ahhahahahaa oh god. Funniest sounding word I've heard in while

  • SPELL IT HOW IT SOUNDS

  • Incanabula.

  • Dorks

  • its sounds harder than it actually is!

  • @lakerman89 ,

you're obviously still too dumb enough to spell

  • lol, wow, all i can spell is floccinaucinihilipilification

  • It is a sport ¤

  • anyone else notice this is on espn -i fail to see how this is a sport

  • @mykoomy You know, I feel the same way about "16 and Pregnant." I can't believe it's a music video.

  • This happened to me once. In the fourth grade, we had a grammar test, the teacher says Janitorial, and a kid in the class goes "How do you spell it?"

The thing that's different is she accidentily gave us the correct spelling!!! She noticed she said it, and she smiled and said "Well, all of you will at least have one right!!" How is that for a cool teacher?

  • nerd laugh

  • huh wow i spelled it right :P

  • What is this "Spelling Bee"?

  • @N1Co0L A Bee you find in your backyard, that, and is most commonly found reading a thesaurus or dictionary. BUT BE CAREFUL, if you disturb them, theyll sting you and steal your smarts.

  • @N1Co0L Nope. It's Chuck Testa.

  • Negus numnah sardoodledom and chinook brought me here

  • negus numnah and sordoodledumb brought me here'

  • Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis

  • well technically noone said she couldnt ask that... :-)

  • It would have been funny if he accidently started spelling it out

  • soo how do you spell that?

  • LOL she thought she got it right that was funny, but to be fair he was saying it like it was spelt incAnabula, i say the bloke is a cheat and she should have to try another word because it aint fair

  • wow I actually spelled it right

  • wtf? he pronounced it inCAnabula not inCUnabula

  • @xShann0nZx That's the actual pronunciation listed in Webster's 3rd New International Dictionary, which is the official source for spelling bee words. No, I don't understand Webster's choice of pronunciation either.

  • @xShann0nZx SHE i think

  • @xShann0nZx

    it's probably the yank pronouncation.

  • @xShann0nZx That's a girl

  • @xShann0nZx Dude...Pretty sure it was a girl...

  • @xShann0nZx Its she

  • @xShann0nZx i think its a she 0.o

  • @chewbaca1997 I think he means the man who reads to words??

  • @xShann0nZx One time my teach said abacus, but she pronounced it 'abascus' so.. she made me lose :(

  • lol she thought he had got it. haha

  • this looks soo exiting, ESPN's Best

  • Wtf she spelt it wrong

  • stupid old guys have no sense of humor when they do these things.......

  • how the hell do people sit and watch though this? -_-

  • now... spell Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis

  • @TheCrazy135 doesnt that have to do with black lung disease and is frequent among miners?

  • @dean44100 I love it when someone takes a word and reads it off of wiki and acts as if they've known that word...

  • Aaaaahh, your so bad. Its not even that hard to keep a straight face. It would be so much better if she wasn't laughing the whole time.

  • That guy giving the words sounds like John Malkovich :P

  • She planned that. She was laughing at the beginning.

  • "I. N. C. A..." didnt she spell that wrong??? how do these things work?

  • @psnGoBoSox Yes, she got it wrong. That's what the bell signifies.

  • @codeman38 : YThat's a rather "positive" sounding bell, though. If I heard that, I would assume I got it correct if anything. They need to change the bell to a more "Eeeenh!" effect.

  • incunabula

  • no whats kinda weird i found out how to spell it

  • she got it wrong but the little bell made her think she got it right lol

  • Can I get a mulligan please?

  • The guy sounds so much like John Malkovich.

  • Did anyone notice the "ESPN" logo in the bottom right corner wtf spelling is a sport

  • Go Maryland

  • incanabula??? i dont freakin know!!!!

  • hheheheh she thought she got it right when that bell rang, how wrong was she.

  • bunch of NERDS!! LOL

  • I get asking orgin of a word but not definition, why would that matter?

  • @lakerman89 Sometimes the definition gives a hint as to the actual root of the word.

  • @codeman38 also there might be words that sounds exactly the same but spells different and the have different meanings.. then the definition will tell witch of the word they want to have..

  • @lakerman89 its like bear beer and bare all the same sound but different definition

  • @lakerman89 blue and blew you wouldn't know which one i was talking about now would you?

  • @lakerman89

If it's latin you'll pretty much know how to spell half of it.

  • @wiih8ps3 unless the reader doesn't pronounce it right.

  • @lakerman89 Also you're suppose to take all the possible hints if anything so you can waste a little bit of time while you think of how to spell a word

  • @lakerman89 i don't but i guess figuring out the difference between see and sea sometimes

  • @lakerman89 Board. Bored. Duh. They sound the same. o a defintion clears up words like that. Plus what codeman38 said.

  • @lakerman89 yea like a lot of english words come from Latin roots

  • @lakerman89 it gives them time to think how to spell it its just procrastinating

  • @lakerman89

cuz blew blue and bleu all sound alike and have different deffinitions

  • @lakerman89 It helps with homonyms. I once watched a 4th grade spelling bee, and one unfortunate kid got eliminated because the word was "root," but he spelled "route"

  • @lakerman89 homophones are plentiful.

  • @lakerman89

well 'Bear' and 'Bare' might have the same language origin, but unless you know the definition you wouldn't know which to spell.

  • how the hell me, a portuguese person, knew already how to spell it and she didnt? lol

  • @MoonLover456 Because your native language is closer to Latin than English?

  • She knew she was gonna say tht when she got up there

  • @SpiritOfAThunderbird Americans have a hate group called the KKK that target people for their race......oh thats right not everyone is the same in one country.

  • See now that's the type of person that should be at a spelling bee :£

  • omg...shes like laughing at the lead up...

  • she was pretty darn close.

  • She is Absoultly stupid. How could she get it wrong? The subtitles are RIGHT THERE. LOL

  • @FinishedRoughly can't tell if trolling or stupid

  • @Dogbitevictim You're*, Mr. Illiterate.

  • what was that guy thinking?

  • are these even real words? Next thing they have to spell a word like ostentatious

  • i use this word all the time.

  • I think she thought she got it right.

  • Flipping SCHWA. Stupid English.

  • Only one letter off too

  • lolz i think she thought she got it right at first

  • The kid should look below and look at the subtitles

  • at least she loses gracefully

  • Did anyone else notice that this was on ESPN?????......UVA must have been playing

  • @reb9z It's been on ESPN since... like, 1994 or so. Though recently the final rounds have moved to ABC.

  • @reb9z 1.this was back in 2005 if you read the description. 2.that kinda offends me since im a uva fan.

  • useless word :-P

  • could you spell run then say yet?

  • english is so complicated to speak, the girl said A instead of U because thats exactly how Americans pronounce the U, as an A. Its harder than it seems

  • The guy talking sounds like John Malkovich, who else agrees?

  • these spelling bees seem to b unfair. If someone gets a hard word and misses and the winner never gets a hard word? shouldnt they all get the same words with ear phones and blinders so as not to cheat?

  • Hahahah thumbs up if she looks like one of the twins from the movie 2012

  • @Pontiac90two i feel the same way about "roan"..i spelled it r-o-n-e..

  • @Pontiac90two

Dont worry, in 3rd grade my word was creature and i spelled it C-R-E-A-U-T-U-R-E and im 2nd best speller in my grade.

  • wow... this is a pretty big thing in America. how embarrassing.

  • this guy must love his job lol

  • @haydexXXL she spelt it wrong as she said A instead of U

  • lol im 17 in the 9th grade thats how stupid i amm i love skool XD

  • the girl behind her is like r u freaking serious

  • no its all because of the countrys, the uk for one will be 12 at the start of 8th grade but 13 at the start of 9th grade, if you were american you would be 13 at the start of 8th and 14 at the start of 9th.

  • she spelt it wrong ? , it came up on the screen incunabula and she spelt it incanablula ?

  • @haydenXXL Yes, she spelt it wrong - that's what the bell indicates.

  • @haydenXXL I love how you spelled "spelled" horribly wrong.

  • @mells105 Actually, "spelt" is a perfectly valid past tense of "spell". It's primarily British, but I read too much British stuff and have accidentally picked up a few Briticisms...

  • @codeman38 oh snap

  • @codeman38 im british :)

  • @codeman38 Briticisms? You mean the people whose language it is might have the 'wrong' version of words, as opposed to the correct American spellings? :P

  • @killerdec21 Hehe, that's cute, despite the fact that we created "English". We also created white (racist) America, which means that WE created you. Seeming as you took OUR language, and not bothering to change the actual name of OUR language (like you have with everything else), you've somehow built this fantasy where English are wrong, and Americans are right, that's rich! Perhaps learn the history of the language that WE taught you. You "ass", or should I say twat. Go eat a burger mate <3

  • @dragonangel6

so first was British English and then American? For some reason I always thought that American English came first

  • @kyuubinaruto9990 Only if we are talking about alphabetical order :)

  • @dragonangel6 all i gotta say is what happened during the time period of 1775-1783 thank you very much sir and good day go drink some tea

  • @codeman38 Thank-you! Some people who actually comment in proper grammar.

  • @codeman38 i'm brittish and spelt isn't a word

  • @codeman38

    Exactly. like "dreamt"

  • @codeman38 Your using Americanisms as the true language is the English language which comes from Britain, just thought I would point that out. And yes you're right spelt is a perfectly correct.

  • @codeman38

And indeed, since British English was around far before American English developed, some would argue it's the more "proper" spelling. But you're online criticizing others' spelling. You must have known that already, because you are representing the very pinnacle of literary achievement.

  • @codeman38 No, no such thing as Briticisms since the language originate here.

    Only such things as Americanisms.

  • @mells105 i love how spelt is actually how you spell spelled in ENGLISH

  • @mells105 ouch, you just burned your own intelligence

  • @mells105 I hear the USS Failboat has room for one more passenger! If you hurry you just might catch it!!

  • @mells105 i love how you didnt know that

  • @mells105 It's the past tense for "spell" go back to your grammar

  • @mells105 Yeah, do some research before you mock someone.
