@AchtungPakhtoon i think our difference from what appears semi expert and pro is smaller nowadays. d7000 is perhaps all we want. check out... freedslr . co m remove spaces and try to get the chance to bring home completely new Nikon D7000
i am using the nikon d3000 also.i bought it 2 months back and still new to it.i wanna know does d3000 support telephoto lenses?please kindly tell me asap.thank you
@strongmanpremanand Yes. You can attach any Nikon mount lens, though only those designated 'AF-S' (or 'HSM' in the case of Sigma lenses) will autofocus. The others will have to be focused manually.
@strongmanpremanand I just recently purchased a Sigma 70-300mm telephoto zoom lens but it is not HSM. The autofocus works fine on my D3000. I sold my 18-55mm kit lens and bought a better 35mm prime lens f/1.8. It's an awesome lens. Look for it in Amazon. I only got mine for $199.
Hi I'm planning to buy a DSLR but confusing which brand hahahaha my friends told me Canon but my Choice is Nikon. For my Nikon Choice im going to choice D5000 or the D3000 which is nice im comparing this two model on the canon 500D and 550D.
Hello, I am considering to buy a Nikon D3000.. I'm a starter and I want it to use for weddings/small party's etc.. Is this camera good for these kind of things??
@Rol80 the Nikon D3000 is for the "beginner/amateur" photographer, and is a consumer level model of the Nikon DSLR series. I wouldn't suggest that you use that model for weddings or small party's (If you're getting paid) In my opinion I would use it for just daily shooting, family get together's, etc.

hey folks, m planning to buy this one, any suggestions or any other model dat i should go for? i want a medium range dslr...kindly let me know ...thanks
According to rumors in China all Nikon new models have a defective power on/off chip and the cameras who have this problem all of sudenly will not power on and will be useless not repairable, except if you send it back to the customer service before the proble arouse. These are rumours recycling in China but I know for shure that Nikon D5000 is defective and even though Nikon knows about it. They prefer to sell the product as is and then recall it one month later to repair it before it is dead.
I have the D3000 nikon nd wen I put the 55mm to 200mm lense it dosent lock my flash! maybe in automatic for u guys but ill say u guys can try and press the flash release button!! maybe thats all!! but to me it works great! or maybe is just on other camaras! thats just my opinion!
question, so if the cameras long lenses are too long the flash is blocked? so what then is the porpuse of the long expesive lenses for? it all seems like a contridiction to me. big leses are better picture quality but then again it blocks the flash?...
@AF0093 It's quite Simple, you don't need a flash if you take a photo of a Skyscaper. You onl need if you make Macro shots. Well if you buy for example a Sigma 18-200mm the flash is blocked, i think. But only the small one in the Camera you have to buy a ggod outside Flash. :P
Sry for bad English i'M a 16 year old german Student! :D
maybe because the flash can't flash that long:) some flashes can cover certain distances under certain circumstances. i have no problem using my flash (SB-900) with my 70-300mm and nikon D60, even at 300mm. maybe a pro can tell us:)
@AF0093 Bigger isn't always better. The simple 50mm prime will always be one of my favorites. Flash isn't always needed. Assuming that the lens is "long" it must have a pretty long range, flash's aren't built for long range. You're better off with an off camera flash, get a pocket wizard or something.
@AF0093 Do you mean 'big lenses' as in telephoto? You wouldn't generally use flash with these lenses, especially the built-in flash. For a start the maximum useful range of the built in flash will only be about 5 metres.
If you mean big as in wide max aperture, these lenses would not block light from a proper flashgun such as one of Nikon's Speedlights.
It wasn't a 'review', nor did we claim it was. It was a 'first look' shot at its press launch. We'd only seen it for the first time about 20 minutes before.
@WhatDigitalCamera That is such a condescending answer, inverted commas make you look like you are being a smart ass and for such a high standing organisation I'd expect you to be able to resist rising to petty comments online. Disappointed.
Minefieldz: What a dumbass comment. I guess those who just complain have no idea how much work even a 3min video can be (shooting, editing, uploading to YT). Before you bash around with blurr criticism make your own review, show us your perfect video.
Thanks to WhatDigitalCamera for making and uploading this video!
It's called a lens hood or lens shade. It helps to block any light source from entering the lens. If the light source( usually the sun) enters in you have a good chance at getting lens flare. which is when light is reflected of the internals of the lens.
thats exactly what i mean , when the flash get blocked by the hood .... im only 14 so i guess i will just get the smaller flash gun (cant afford taller one) and take off the hood when im usng it.
Anyone who plans to become a photo enthusiast should go for the D90. d5000 and D3000 are not impressive cameras compared to D90. Get a much better package closer to D300s by saving another month and go for the D90.
Its just 160 more. (at least in amazon). It has some features like the 11 focus points vs 3, better hardware software( I hope ) and and guide mode. I just ordered mine just 5 minutes ago. the D5000 is nicer but has had some problems.
Just check out the reviews I guess. Its always had to put down $500-$600.
Not reeeeally. If I was going for this level of camera, I think the biggest pull for the D3000 would be the 11-point autofocus system. But the cameras use the same sensor and so the image quality is likely to be identical.
Just go for what you feel you can afford. People can say but this camera has this and that camera has that - neither Nikon nor Canon make bad dSLRs. If they did, they'd be out of business.
I have done a lot of research as far as the nikon D300 and the D300s. They are the same as far as image quality but the important question to ask is, '"do I want to be able to shoot hd video?" the price of a d300s is $1799.99. the price of a d300 is $1799.00. I would go with the newer d300s. I believe it will also hold its value better in the walkthrough. Its a professional quality camera.
d300 is for more pro. and d60 amateur. if you still can't decide get d90. its great camera. i have d60 and it is still better tnah any non slr camera. im totaly happy with d60.
Get a Nikon D3 then...look at that build even just for the D300! Just checked sample images for your Canon on dpreview, very bad photographer there or very ordinary image quality, not worth 3000$.
Looks like digital photography technology has reach its quality limits. All the new cameras are just added HD video capability and some really minor features that won't effect the image quality.
Adding mega pixel and/or upgrading ISO sensitivity.
you cant at first look but try to compare it side by side with a d300 and d300s picture taken in a control lighting shoot ( i just hope the 14bit ad conversion is same with d3x quality)
intereseting. the entry d3000 would be great for a beginner. but personally i was expecting a little more from the d300 replacement than the d300s. think ill deffo be waiting out for the next generation maybe the next full frame d700 as long as it is NOT 20+ MP
There should be a d700s coming out pretty soon.. Why do you say that you do NOT want 20+ mp??? That makes no sense, sure they dont matter a whole lot but any photographer will tell you that it doesnt hurt to have more..
imagine how much more memory you would need, (ie a wedding shooting raw taking around 1000 photos and producing around 15gigs of images from the d300 but times that by 2 and... well mylaptop would never be able to keep up and uploading time would take forever. but 15-16mp would be ok.
Have you tried "XDepth Raw Converter? It can give you a lot of gigs back. I have not tryed it but it should save you a LOT of space. I don´t think it is totally loseless compression, but it should be good. It converts to a RAW filetype.
Try entering "stop the megapixel race" in a search engine. As I see it, it matters how big a sensor your camera have. (like fullframe or crop sensor) As I understand less megapixel can give you better dynmaic range and better Low light proformance. But if you print VERY large images VERY often the LARGE resolution might be better for you. 13 mp is fine for me. If you wan´t to buy a car, you don´t start asking how many r/min it has. Unless it´s a Honda Type-R ;-)
Thats is all true, but what im saying is that newer sensors that are in the making will have better low light performance, and higher pixels, i dont care about how many pixel a sensor has, and i get annoyed when people ask "how many megapixels does it have?" But the image size difference between a 12mp nikon, and a 50mp hassy is BIG.. And im just saying in the future nikon will be able to have those high pixels, and still maintain great low light performance.
maybe but then also i doubt you would get great fast fps or long image buffers. the d700 can do 8fps (with extra battery) the canon 5dmark2 can only do about 3, lots of sports photographers still go with the canon 1dsmark...something which only has 10mp and can do 10fps. more mp will slow everything down includign editing, uploading, downloading, fps, noise, etc. indeed in the future things may be different bu hopefully so will my computer with 15gb ram and 5tb hd
also it is about the lens sharpness. there is only about 4 lenses that are sharp enough to actually see the benefit of the extra number of pixels in the nikon d3x and each of those lenses are over the 1000pounds level (apart from the 50mm)
pretty much. (in an extreme example imagin looking through some tracing paper, then through glass, in pixel peeping terms a poor soft (not sharp lens will not show any benefit from more mega pixels. any kit lens (and most other lenss) will fall below the resolution ability of the sensor.
opps i meant d700x, and i guess if you dont want all the extra waste of memory it might make sense..... Although nikon introducing a new 20+ sensor could mean that it would have worlds more sharpness, plus using it in a lower resolution would be good too, because it would still be around 12mp(so it wouldnt waste soo much memory).. But any plans ive seen for a d700 replacement say that it will have 24.5 mp... i think the same as the d3x..
no i mean that if they were like making a whole new sensor for it, regardless of the pixels, it could be an updated sensor that would be sharper per pixel, not because of the number of pixels.
(part 2/2) Canon, Sony and Panasonic all have to be carefull not to disturb thier videoline. You dont have at one, and therefor I expectede you to use your free arms to give us high quality video - at least full HD in 24P. I guess I have to keep my old shoes, and put money aside for D700x? Or hope for Canon to give us one more firmware update for 5D mark II?
(part 1/2) Thanks Nikon for the autofocus! But I had hoped for a better video resolution i this pro camera. It looks like Panasonic brings much better video funktion in their Lumix DMC-GH1. I had expected minimum the same level of vide proformance in your D300s. You gave us same level as D90 with audofocus. D300s really is at still camera "ohh with some video funktion" Its not close being a hybrid.
They arent trying to make hybrids, nikon is a camera maker and thats what they are making here, its just a "camera with a video function".. We are far from having a well adapted hybrid, technology wise.... (But as fast as these people come out with new technology it might not be THAT far off)
awesome camera im 13 and totaly want to be a photographer so im just kinda learning about cameras now and hopefully getting a rlly good one eventualy and getting better at photography.

mrstreak101 2 years ago
It really depends on which lens it is for. Some are expensive some are no big deal. Some brands come with the lens hood when you buy the lens.
Yes it is VERY helpful when you are outside with the sun up. Or maybe even for studio work.
Lens hoods are worth getting.

hi man, do you think you would be able to tell me where to get a sunflower shaped lens hood for the NIKON D3000 like the one in the vid ? thanks

First of all, the Lens Hood is for the Lens not the D3000.
The lens used in the video is not the kit lens, it is a much better lens, so it comes with a petal shaped hood.
If it's the Kit Lens you are using, sorry but there is no Petal shaped Hood for that, only a circular one.
JohnnyBoyzRawr 2 years ago
ahh i see thanks 4 explaining m8 !
going to get the round one anyway... btw i have heard the built in flash will not work when hood is on ?
tiny bit worried cause the flash gun i plan to get isnt much taller so it might not work either
weebromat 2 years ago
What do you mean by "not work?" It will still fire th flash. I think you mean the flash isnt high enough/lens is too long.
I've seen this problem before that the lens is too long so it leaves a dark spot at the bottom of picture where the flash got blocked by the lens.
The lens (w/ the hood on) is still pretty short. It's up to you now. I suggest getting the bigger flash gun if you have the budget.
JohnnyBoyzRawr 2 years ago

imagine how much more memory you would need, (ie a wedding shooting raw taking around 1000 photos and producing around 15gigs of images from the d300 but times that by 2 and... well mylaptop would never be able to keep up and uploading time would take forever. but 15-16mp would be ok.

And im just saying in the future nikon will be able to have those high pixels, and still maintain great low light performance.

maybe but then also i doubt you would get great fast fps or long image buffers. the d700 can do 8fps (with extra battery) the canon 5dmark2 can only do about 3, lots of sports photographers still go with the canon 1dsmark...something which only has 10mp and can do 10fps. more mp will slow everything down includign editing, uploading, downloading, fps, noise, etc. indeed in the future things may be different bu hopefully so will my computer with 15gb ram and 5tb hd

also it is about the lens sharpness. there is only about 4 lenses that are sharp enough to actually see the benefit of the extra number of pixels in the nikon d3x and each of those lenses are over the 1000pounds level (apart from the 50mm)
dombower 2 years ago
Ohh okay, how does that work?? is it just based on how sharp the lens is??
timmyguy13 2 years ago
pretty much. (in an extreme example imagin looking through some tracing paper, then through glass, in pixel peeping terms a poor soft (not sharp lens will not show any benefit from more mega pixels. any kit lens (and most other lenss) will fall below the resolution ability of the sensor.

wrong - you forget Zeiss MF Nikon lenses

opps i meant d700x, and i guess if you dont want all the extra waste of memory it might make sense..... Although nikon introducing a new 20+ sensor could mean that it would have worlds more sharpness, plus using it in a lower resolution would be good too, because it would still be around 12mp(so it wouldnt waste soo much memory).. But any plans ive seen for a d700 replacement say that it will have 24.5 mp... i think the same as the d3x..
timmyguy13 2 years ago
worlds more sharpness??? na dont think so. it would mean you only get 0.8 more pixels per space. (not even a whole extra pixels)
dombower 2 years ago
no i mean that if they were like making a whole new sensor for it, regardless of the pixels, it could be an updated sensor that would be sharper per pixel, not because of the number of pixels.
timmyguy13 2 years ago
ohh and they introduced a new 18-200 and a new 70-200, both with the vrII, and they say the 70-200 is much sharper than before
timmyguy13 2 years ago
deffo interested in the new 70-200 but if they try and sell that for 2000 pounds i dont think i can afford it for a good long time

Ultimateracepro 2 years ago
They arent trying to make hybrids, nikon is a camera maker and thats what they are making here, its just a "camera with a video function".. We are far from having a well adapted hybrid, technology wise.... (But as fast as these people come out with new technology it might not be THAT far off)

too bad the screen is only 230k dot. on the d3000.
