Very interesting to hear this version of 'Cars Are Cars' - I actually like it a lot better than the released Simon -only version, which I find rather sterile. I think there is a real drummer on this cut, presumably replaced on the final version with the wetfish Linndrum?
The vocals have way more attitude and its really nice to hear Artie sing 'But people are strangers...' and then Paul cuts in with 'they shut down their borders..'
Hearts and Bones is a flawed masterpiece. Thanks for sharing

Honestly, I'm kind of glad that it didn't become an S&G album. The songs just don't lend themselves to harmony the way the old ones did. I'm not sure why Paul picked such songs for a (would-be) S&G album. I don't think it would have worked.
I halfway agree. For this particular song, I don't think it would have been a very good Simon and Garfunkel album. However, if you listen to Song About the Moon, I think songs like those on there could have worked well.
Song About The Moon is just a better song than this one. I'm glad it didn't become a full-blown S&G album, since it really just sounds like a bunch of Simon solo material that Garfunkel happens to sing on. I know that some people would say that's all that S&G were, but there was a difference...they blended together really well in the 60s. Like The Beatles, perhaps it's just best they laid their recorded legacy to rest at the end of the 60s. This song is fluffier than cotton candy.
2dannyc89 where do you get all of this material?? thanks for much for posting! Are there Art vocals on Rene and Gorgette Magritte as well as heart and Bones - these 2 tracks would most suit their harminies i think? And i didn;t know they toured in 01... where can we get recordings of it???
Amazing, I knew it was supposed to be a Simon & Garfunkel album, but had no idea Garfunkel had actually recorded vocals to it. Thanks for posting this.
man, this is awesome, i have this tape still and listen to it,..i loved this album...saw these guys live in 83 in vancouver...all i can say was,..that was a trip of a life time,..and they sounded great....
Finally...Do you have any of the live versions of the Hearts & Bones/Think Too Much tracks that were performed on this tour. I recall them doing the faster Think Too Much, Song About The Moon, I think The Late Great Johnny Ace...and at least one more, maybe two (we were all thrilled)I've seen 4-6 tracks on live boots from the era. Thanks & Blessings!!
Well, I have Cuba Si, Nixon No, live, they dont have a studio recording of it, but i will post it, I also have Groundhog. And I have the entire album of Hearts and Bones, but a lot of the songs were unfinished and don't include Art in any way. But i do have a live version of "Think to Much (a)" "Late Great Johnny ace" I already posted Song About The Moon. I will post all that i can for you.
2dannyc89 I remember when you were on here before. I assumed, wrongly, that you were older (my age, 43, or older even)...it's great to know that this amazing music is staying alive...and I appreciate your tenacity in keeping this stuff available for all to enjoy. Simon solo and S&G rank up with The Beatles for me, and it is just amazing to hear these bootlegs tracks that I've read about before, but never gotten to hear. I'm very grateful, as I'm sure others are, and/or will be too. Blessings!!
Any chance of posting a full live version of "Cuba Si, Nixon No"...your version on youtube is all I've ever heard...so sad it got nixed from the box set at the last minute...I know there are bootleg versions from the '69 tour, but I've never heard of a bootleg studio version; I was hoping it'd be on Live 1969 (no such luck, but great set list)...nor any versions of "Groundhog" the other lost BOTW track (Artie's lost BOTW has come out)...Let's hope for a tour, eh? Blessings!
I am SOOOOO glad to finally hear these (glad to hear you are posting the rest)...I saw the ill fated "Think Too Much" tour (it was amazing- saw Pittsburgh & went to the infamous Concert In Central Park too!) & "Hearts & Bones" is as fave a Simon album as I have (& along with "Surprise" as underrated a work as he's made). FYI: a copy of Live 1969 on eaby now (mine's on the way already in the mail) & it's on sale on 3/25 at Starbucks. Yeah!! Blessings!!
Wow, I've long heard of these "lost" tracks. I heard Garfunkel had also done vocals for "Song About The Moon" and a few others. I don't suppose you have any more?
I do have them, but Arts vocals arent as obvious a lot of the other tracks. Song About The Moon, u can hear him at the verse "The laughing boy he laughed so hard...." but other then that, the song is about the same, but i will post them so you can hear them.
Saw them play this live, very dissapointed the lp didn't include Art.

This is the best Paul Simon album. IMHO

BTW, it was said to be one of Paul's worst selling albums albeit the great songs. Me I think Rhythm of the Saints was awful.

No garfunkel, just Simon..

wow. never heard this one before.. kind of makes me sad that art's contributions to hearts and bones were removed :(

This track is from that exact concert. I have a bootleg of the live 1983 Vancouver concert and this was played right after Scarborough Fair.

I heard Paul on an interview and he said that the last S & G tour was their goodbye tour and they would not tour again -- but you never know.
