  • i love this i just heard of him today from my dad i hope he comes somewhere near my town soon

  • I've met this cat. He is an ex truck driver and has a vise grip handshake. Helluva cool guy.

  • "Let My Guitar Do the Talking" rocks too!!

  • Nice sounds , another guy who plays Real music , and not on the production line of false Girl/ Boy bands . Real nice from over the pond

  • yessss!!!

    all the best!!!

  • Guitar Shorty is truly one of the coolest cats you'll ever meet.......and when you do meet him you better respect him as a true guitar genius. At the Cafe Boogaloo in Redondo Beach, CA he walked outside the club and was walking down the sidewalk (not too far) and jamming, while the patrons went outside with him and watched in sheer amazement. Then the police came over and told him that he has to go back inside. That's Blues right there! Nobody tells him how or where to play his music. Yeah!

  • @Harpgrindin The first time I saw him was at a small club in Eureka CA. He went outside there too and a bum that was sitting against the building got up and walked with him down the street. they were talking as they walked and he played. When they got back the bum sat back down and Shorty went back in and finished the song.

  • My friend the Wagman says Shorty's version of Hey Joe is the finest and he was talking to Shorty last night saying a live album on Alligator is due. Guitar Shorty is one original bluesman. He is an american treasure.

  • he even fuckin sings like Jimi!!!!!

  • Guitar Shorty is THE unsung hero! Thanks for posting. You Rock!

  • why isn't this guy famous ? why ? why ? why ?

he should be more famous than bieber, gaga, kiss, britney spears etc.

  • @Jetluffyq8 music has become nothing more than a commodity, and the people who control the process take no chances. They only want stuff with a proven record. The radio stations are the same, take no chances. A and R guys used to look for new talent, for something different. Now they look for the next Auto tuned Britney Spears. If it will make you feel better there is a good version of a Britney Spears song. Look for Baby one more time by Dweezil & Achmed Zappa. It's great.

  • @wavydavey Truth on "why?"...because then the world would know who taught Jimi Hendrix how to play/perform and the (over-stated) Hendrix "Legacy" would die. Guitar was his brother-in-law a long time ago and Jimi learned it all from him. Well, we sure can't have the Greatest Guitarist Ever shown up so they ignored Guitar....still do, too.

That plus what Jetluffyq8 said about commodities and Auto-Tuned wanna be nothings.

  • @willism1980 I don't think the "Legacy" is over stated 'cause from day 1 Jimi acknowledged all the cat's he picked up from. And during those years all them brothers said that no matter who's licks he borrowed here and there, Jimi was truly an orginal. Yeah there were/are a lot of guys who didn't get the fame or the magazine covers and interviews but they're still out ther 'cause the people who know pass it on and still go see 'em anywhere they play.

  • @maddvybe Good point...those that didn't "make it big" still did what they loved and passed it on. Ain't no doubt that Jimi could surely make a guitar talk, too. great to have youtube to see some of the ones that were missed by the spotlight. I just don't want the fans coming up now to think that is where it all started but you are right on the mark. Thanks.

  • @Jetluffyq8

This guy played with Ray Charles, T-bone Walker and Little Richard by the time he was 19 years old.

He's now in his 70's. One of the greatest blues legends......nuff said! I was a music arranger and

horn player in the 70's in major studios in LA and Nashville. I know this guy personally and he's one

of the most down to earth people I've ever had the privilege to meet.

  • Great, classic sounds from awesome guys. Watch out for BRANDON JAROD. Playing hey joe, just as great!

  • Look forward to seeing you at the Chenango County Blues Fest in Norwich,NY. Know your gonna kick ASS!

  • I love Guitar Shorty!!!!

  • If it were not for Guitar Shorty, we would not have had Jimi Hendrix doing all the flashy stuff. Shorty laid the foundation for Jimi.

  • i'd never heard of him i saw him today in chicago at the blues festival when i left i figured he was the best i saw all day

  • Nice version !

  • guitar shorty is jimmie hendrix brotha in law and he taught jimmie alot of his fancy guitar playing ways ,learn your history

  • Great video thanks for sharing.

  • He does play some very nice licks here.

I have one of his CDs, but his playing here is much more impressive.

Jimi is still the KANG, though.

  • Love you, Bill!!!

  • hes my all time fav blues musician, hes the reason i listen to blues.

  • jimmie told me he got lots of licks from shorty, i believe him

  • WOW i like this almost as well as the POPA CHUBBY version real blues played by real artists without the frills AWESOME.

  • saw this guy in san diego in pacific beach in like 99' . awesome!

  • totally blew the solo, he shoulda chilled and let the bassist and drummer chill on their fat licks.

  • I hear Shorty is coming to the Silver Dollar Toronto on Fri Nov 21 for those in the area.

And, I will get his autograph and picture too.

  • I've know shorty for years, and he truly is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. We booked the band to play a private concert and (knowing Joe was my favorite), he played this somg for over 30 minutes. He tourrs constantly and if you like blues and blues rock at all he is a must see.

  • i saw him & it was a turning point. from then on i fell in love with the blues. by the way, how do you know him?

  • I don't know how he "ruined" the solo. I watched your response and I can't imagine how you can delude yourself to think you did a better job. I saw him again last night and he did Hey Joe and the solo was different. That's what makes it a solo it's not some wrote performance. Is guitar shorty the best player I've ever seen? I've seen about everyone so I'd have to say no. Is he one hell of a blues man? Damn right! And he's been doing it for 50 years. I'll leave yours up so others can decide.

  • @wavydavey Have you seen Walter Trout? He in my opinion is the best, I like guitar Shorty and you are right on solos, they change each time a song is played its what the artist feels that night, thats the beauty of the blues. Not everyone can "play" the blues, great guitarist can attempt it but Blues, True Blues comes from the soul. There are alot of great ones out there. I have had the privilage to see alot of them. Keep the Blues alive brother and nice video of a fantastic artist.

  • @bluedaddy23 I have seen Walter and he is a great player. I don't usually assign the title The Best because there are so many great players. I just enjoy them. I have my favorites Albert Collins, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Walter trout, Gatemouth brown and a bunch of others. I grew up in the SF bay area in the sixties and saw about everyone. Most of those old great players are gone but there are some damn good new ones coming up. The Blues Lives.

  • @wavydavey Man you just named a load of greats, I , like you enjoy them all blues is my favorite music. I think we need to add in Albert King, Albert Cummings,Rory Gallagher,Bernard & Luther Allison. I love the Blues I was born in Chicago and I guess thats where my love of the Blues comes from. I would have loved to seen some of the Old greats, Big Mama Thornton, John Lee Hooker, and the list goes on. Sounds like you have a love for the Blues and share alot of the same sentiments as I Peace Bra

  • Shorty is a living legend, go check him out.

  • man you have no idea who you are talking about...in the first place...music is a language, being able to "shred" means absolutely nothing...less than 1% of "succes" in a musical piece depends on the notes he "missed" (i recomend watching victor wooten lessons, probably the greatest bass player alive if not ever), any videos here on Youtube cant be compared to seing Shorty live...i went to this blues fest, when i saw him around i thought "this is going to suck", didnt even know who he was...

  • none of us did....then we heard him play....the best guitar performance ive ever seen live....ive seen John Petrucci live...Ive seen Joe Satriani live...they are nothing compared to Shorty, and if you know about instruments with frets and strings you know who they are, you still got a lot to learn if you think you can do better than experienced musicians like him (he is like 70, played guitar since 5)

  • @Computerdisplay i agree man alot of ppl can go and play without missing a note but if you cant put your heart and soul into youll never be great like shorty

  • he nailed it sounded like to me.

  • Got to see him at the DUSK TILL DAWN blues fest,Rentiesville, OKLA. Exellent Exellent. Very nice and polite, and had time for all who wanted to meet him.

  • haha his wife is actually the half sister of jimi hendrix

it says so in his wikipedia haha

  • Saw him play this Sat. night in Plilly PA. 6/28/08 Can't even put it into words he was that good. And what does Shorty play as his last song one week before the 4th of july in Philly...But The Star Spangel Banner and The Battle Hym of The Republic....The Place WENT NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow. I love this guy. Thanks for posting this video; now I have another person to add to the list of cd's I have to buy!

And those blades on that G&L sound fantastic! I really want a Legacy Special...

    thanks again!

  • I love Shorty! One of my favorite live shows.

  • Hey Guitar Shorty!! Nice meeting you in Vegas!

    ATTIC OF LOVE

  • check out more on this fella. A hidden livin ledgend.

  • Darn right! I recently discovered him for myself and feel very fortunate to have done so! I was walking down a street in New Jersey and heard music. I followed it into a park and sat down right in front of his stage and experienced a hell of a thing! Check this guy out as much as you can!!

  • Yes he is really something. If you get a chance to see him again make sure you go up and talk to him. He has come up here several times and always has time for fans. He spends minutes signing an autograph and always writes something extra. I saw him in a bar in Arcata and had a couple of drinks with him, a great guy as well as a musician.
