  • I love her hair!!

  • Wow, this song reminds me of after high school football games going with the gang to the lakefront in N.O. and hearing this. I lost a bet back then. I thought it was Olivia -Newton \John in the background. Where is the good "po" music these days???

  • i could listen to this song indefinitely

  • 23 years ago, I fell in Love with Carol Decker because of this song. One thing I can say about today's music, They sure don't make em like they used too. I Feel for Gen-Techno and for those to come.

  • I was in the States in '88 and heard this played on the radio as I was driving into Boston, Massachusetts. Never been more proud to be British when my girlfriend, sitting next to me, said "You Brits know how to make good music!"!

  • love it!!

  • Wow, great song. My first love. I was valet parking and in HS.

  • Respond to this video... this song is truly a great classic.go 80s!!!!!!!!!!

  • All I can say is...high school baby!

  • One day i was watching tv & this video came on & my mom came in my room & was like'OMG,I loveeeee that song,I use to dance in my mirror & swing my hair all over the play to this song when i was younger'.I was like.'Wow mom,Wow'..Lmao..!

  • Seventies man myself. But, this is a great song.

  • i just love it

  • a wonderful song thanks!!!!!!!! : )!!!!!!!!!

  • crazy mullet!

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE this song and video. NOTHING has compared to the ingenuity and creativity of 80's music. Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, and the many one hit wonders such as "The Promise", "Something About You" - all genius. Miss it.

  • just a little bit!

  • i love me some carol decker

  • HOW CAN 32 PEOPLE NOT LIKE THIS ?????

  • gggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr88888888888888

  • Live Long And Prosper

  • . . . Finally! A decent version of this song! Every other version I've come across on Youtube has been pure SHIT! >:-(

  • I remember thinking she was the hottest creature on the face of the earth back then...

  • great song great era THENUMBER1ELVISFAN

  • must i? beg you?

  • T'Pau invented rap, niggaz should just admit it lol!!!!

  • @Gonzoidz ...You can't be serious.

And do yourself a favor and quit with saying/calling people 'niggaz--' It's corny, classless, and laughably unappealing...

  • @Gonzoidz Funny Blondie did Rapture 7 years earlier. Adam Ant did Ant Rap around then also.

  • Is that Carol Decker's silhouette on the wall? If so damn she could move!

  • Memories.........

  • T'Pau... They don't make 'em like this anymore. Classic.

  • I have always loved this song and always will. I don't care what others think because music hits me in its own way and I even got this as a ringtone on my phone! So don't be a hater! If you paya ttention you just might like it! Wish I could find someone to do a duet with to sing this one!!!

  • @loriehall01 i would so do a duet with you on this one!!

  • what a voice what a babe, need i say more...

  • cant wait to see again at clumber park in worksop august 2010.

  • I loved this song, back when we had decent music. Not like all the Gen Y crap we have today.

  • wow- I was honored as a cameraman back in the day to ride on a bus with ms.

Decker. (had too many beers, but's that's

another story . Shot this song and "China"

live in S.D. ) Will never forget.!!!!!!!

  • how do we know your not another delusional internet freak

  • I agree. Most of this newer stuff is crap.

  • WOW! u cant even hear wat there sayin because there singin at the same time! OMG1

  • The lyrics to this song are amazing.

  • Shes a MILF now.

  • I was in college when this song came out and I loved it from the start.Carol has an amazing voice.

  • actually I liked Madonna when I was17,and I'm not gay or fucked up.I'm happily married and have 3 kids ,so if you think a 17 year old boy liking Madonna or Carol Decker then you are just retarded.

  • music touches people in places they cant control, thats why its there to move us, make us think of those we love or even hate, you like madonna, she is very talented, i was way younger than 17 when she was the shit they called the poop, if someone questions your sexuallity due to your taste in music, dont worry, they listen to shit that you hate as well, but self respect stops you from being a dick about it. so your a better person than them, and obviously have better taste in tunes...

  • i dont see anything wrong with a 17 yr old boy like maonna or any other female artist i dont think it makes him gay...thats like saying a girl liking madonna is a lesbian because she likes her..there is nothing wrong with that..

  • Man oh man ... Carol can belt the hell out of it, can't she!? The lady can SING!

  • yes she f-ing can. vocals are so strong...makes me wonder how they did it in studio...

  • Some more....

The Sundays - Here's where the story ends

Crowded House - Don't dream its over

Tears for Fears - Everybody wants to rule the world.

  • Life in a Northern Town - Dream Academy

I'll Stand by You - The Pretenders

  • Post other 80's songs similar or of this caliber in your minds:

Double - Captain of her Heart (just lovely, winsome, magical, sublime, etc....)

Talk Talk - It's My Life

Wall of Voodoo - Call of the West - if you haven't seen v=Kvnin-u75qY stop right now and do so - it is amazing.

I love a lot of 80's songs but these are some of the cream of the crop IMO.

  • @ScottfromTexas

the guitar playing has a certain british element in it that i've noticed in many english bands from the 1960-1980s.

almost seems like old folk music modernized and electrified and i really like that sound.

  • I'm a teenager growing up in one of the worst music era's ever! I wish I was growing up in the 80's, nothing beats the 80s!

    Awesome song.

  • @RagingXela - nice to know others can recognize this. I don't have much in life but I did grow up in this time. In high school when this came out. Lovely.

  • Fantastic song... man... what happened over the years? Music is supposed to make you feel good about life, cheer people up, you know? I 'm calling the 2000's the emo decade... dark, and dull music and movies.

It's time for a media revolution already... Bring back the days when music was made to make you feel good about life!

  • @tacomahnster ; Not disagreeing with your sentiments about 80's music in general, but ... have you actually LISTENED to the lyrics of this song? It's a great tune, but "feel-good" it's not.

  • this song is so perfict why cant songs now be like this

  • because there's 9 million jackass, fake ass rappers messing up the airwaves with their crap, looking to hit it big so they think they can get "all the ho's" and make millions for easy so they don't have to work any more.

When will Hollywood get it- WE DON'T WANT TO LISTEN TO GHETTO RAP ANY MORE???

WE WANT MORE "HEART AND SOUL"!!!

  • Beautiful woman, beautiful voice, fantastic musicians. This song will never age... Thank you for posting it!

  • Killer song, killer voice, hot woman

  • who is the guitarist?

love the sound from 1:53 to 1:59 and

2:52 to 2:58. it's the best part/sound of the song.

  • @The096757 - actually didn't like this when it came out (what a gay song, right? ) but now appreciate many parts of it - not only the parts you specify. I like the (don't know if I'm using the term correctly) "polyphonic" nature with several vocal "lines" or whatever going on at one time. Again, didn't like it at the time but found myself looking back and thinking about it.

  • @ScottfromTexas

this song was never considered gay. it was considered a song for 16-26 year old girls but now we know not to worry what it is called, because we recognize the quality.

any man who likes beyonce, janet jackson or madonna is gay.

    and weird too.

it's notable how the ghetto trash calls everything good "gay" so people with reject it. and praise their bottom crawler music.

  • @The096757 - good comments. Though I do think it would have been considered "gay" for some 17 year old boy to like this in the 80's - it would be more the literal and pejorative sense than the purely pejorative sense now. Maybe I'm splitting hairs.

BTW, it bugs me when I can't understand all the lyrics. Unlike most songs this one pushes the limits of lyrical documentation - they have to use two columns.

  • yes this my shit !! we all need this

  • T'pau Moyo na Nafsi Swahili for T'pau Heart and Soul

  • Thank you for posting...an all time favorite , and I havent heard it in years!! I love it!

  • It's so hard to believe that it's been 22 years since this song was released, because I don't feel much older.I was in college at Ga.Tech when it was released.

  • I was in Atlanta visiting my sister and the first time I heard it was on Power 99 WAPW in Atlanta.

  • don't dare allow embed, someone else might see the video..

  • Hey you're right ! And you know, life's too short to have Embedding disabled...

  • incredible and powerful song, doesn't sound dated

  • i agree these songs don't sound dated they sound powerful. the new junk the past 10+ years i dull thumping that is demoralizing for (sadly) a demoralized generation.

  • bloody hell was it that long ago !!

  • WTF?! Saved to Faves on mobile and wont play! F*@#!

  • Holy Shit....has it been 22 YEARS since this first came out?

  • ggggggggggggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr88888888888888888888887777777777777

  • Such an enchanting/haunting/hypnotic/energetic song of simplistic solace. On top of ALL of that Carol is a hott red-head beauty with vocal sweetness that would make the legendary Sirens of ancient mythology green with envy!

Carol Decker wouldn't have to beg ME for a little bit of heart & soul... I tell you what.

Long live the 80's... BEST decade EVER!

    :o)

  • @Myro6767 agree with you 100% pal!

FOR THE RETURN OF THE 80'S!

  • I'm happy that we have some Trekkies around

  • I feel dumb now, I was wrong. I looked up the entry for T'pau in the Star Trek Encyclopedia.

There are 2 entries for T'Pau on page 348.

  • heh Thats ok. I was begining to doubt myself. I was thinking it may be a new thing introduced in Next Gen or DS9 or something.

  • oh hell yes..... I lvoe this song, even though I was like 10 years old when it came out, brings back alot of memories.

Gives me butterflies in my stomach listening to it.

And yes she is very beautiful, but women back then were all beautiful!!!!!!!

    compared to the losers today

  • your so right

  • T'Pau is a class of Klingon warships

  • Actually, T'Pau was a Vulcan priestess.

  • This song sounds so much more cheerful and sweet than it actually is.

  • 80s music is the 2nd best decade the 60s is the best love the beatles ccr but this isawesome I have noticed most of this crap today samples these two decades music

  • T'Pau was a Vulcan from the original Star Trek Episode "Amok Time" where Spock and Kirk were supposed to fight to the death.

  • Comment removed

  • No T'Pol was from Enterprise not the original Star Trek, T'Pau was a completely different Vulcan so get your facts straight before you open your mouth and show everyone how ignorant you are.

  • I just realized that the band name is from Star Trek. Still awesome song and Carol is very pretty.

  • Still a great song!

  • I was metalhead in the 80's, in a few bands, so althought it wasn't cool to admit at the time, I loved this song! This chick can sing! Would've loved to have had her in my band! :)

  • Carol Decker can really belt out the chorus... Totally awesome!! Thought she was a black girl for the longest time.

  • This is one of the best songs of the entire decade. First time I heard it I thought it was two songs playing at the same time.

  • God, I love chick bands.

    This one is really good.

  • ''yeah chick bands'' huhhuh huh huh

''what do you like about them Beavis''? huh huh huhhuh

''put bands around chicks'' huh huh huh

    ''cool'' huh huh

  • I think this song is timeless and will never go out of style.Carol Decker's voice is flawless.

  • i love how she moves and dances. like shes having fun. ughhh i cant help but do it when i hear the song lol :)

  • Castelinho

  • I have this song on 45 vinyl record. Ha! Classic!

  • I love this song - it's so good...the beat, lyrics and voice.

It's one of those songs that everyone can agree it's good.

  • This sounds so beautiful cranked with digital headphones.

  • Awesome!

  • *swoon*

  • 1987 a crap year for music? Yeah, songs like "just died in your arms", "nothings gonna stop us now", "dont dream it's over", "land of confusion", "I wanna dance with somebody", "livin on a prayer", "luka", "mary's prayer" and "La bamba" all really sucked!!!

  • You certainly sound angry, Eric!

  • It doesn't take much mental effort to be negative. For someone who's insecure it provides an easy script to follow. So much easier to destroy than create.

    . . .

This amazingly wonderful song always struck me as prequel to the rap genre in popular music.

  • YEAH!!Awonderful song!!!

  • named after one of my favorite Star Trek characters.

  • She was in one episode and she's one of your favorites? What's up with that?

  • Wow.... this girl reminds me of my ex in NY.... Karen....

  • The first time I heard this song I was living in Columbus,Ohio and was on summer vacation visiting my sister in Atlanta. I heard this on Power 99 in Atlanta, and loved the song since.

  • 87, sam e year as top gun the film came out, i was 17, bloodey hell !!!!!!!

  • Wasn't Top Gun 1986? I did trip to USA in summer 1986, had choice of "Aliens" or "Top Gun" to see in Times Square - went for "Aliens", was so scared that sat too far back in my chair and all of the change fell out of my pockets during quite point in film. Oh well... Only $ollar$

  • yeah top gun was deff 86

  • Top Gun was in 1986, when I was 16. Took my first date to see it.

  • nice looking red top carol decker was back then too. loverly wavey hair too. isnt she from shropshire way?

  • wow! finally found this on here -- triple thanks!! for posting . . . I had forgotten the artist's name or wasn't paying too much attention (too busy being a kid back then) but I remember how much I loved this song & still do!! cheers!

  • That is so smooth. The best of the 80's is that fluid sound.

  • One of my favorite 80's songs!!! Sooo many memories and feeling when I was growing up on Long Island back in the good ol days yea!

  • 1980's.....love this!

  • Amazing, this song came to fame only because Smirnoff Vodka used it as a backing song for their advert in UK cinemas back in the 80's. "Vodka by Smirnoff, Music by T'Pau" was the wording.

  • this is great power pop! and of course her voice is amazing, clear, powerful notes.

  • right on

  • arh what a tune, still sound as good today as when it first came out starting my college YTS course... great days.

  • Look how spoken style started to influence at that time, same as Pet Shop Boys and some other casual tunes. Of course we all didn't notice how far it would set the way for the music.

  • You're totally misinformed. Rap began in the early 80's. Apparently you've never heard "Rapper's Delight" or even that Blondie tune...Tpau and the Pet Shop Boys had nothing to do with, completely different type of music, dude

  • Quite correct.

And the Blondie tune was 'Rapture'.

  • named after a vulcan princess

  • yup. isn't that funny? I was just watching the orginal series like 45 minutes ago...

  • Didnt they use this song for Pepe Jeans in the 80s?

  • Great song. I remember this song when I was in the Army back in 88.

  • OK just people that's not Isla Fisher, this came out in the 80's when she was a little girl.

  • You and me. both!!

  • T'pau are the British answer to A-Ha!

  • listen, rap SUCKS, but these two can rock, two white chicks, that can put lyrics, and musical vocals together, and make it sound so sweet! Now if only the sh#@!t music they put out today could only come even close to this, they'd be on to something!

  • Comment removed

  • There is only one singer in T'pau not two

  • I always loved this song..

I love that their name comes from Star Trek, too.

  • favored forever ! :D
