  • Matt, I am Sam. I am 16 years old and currently learning to become a game-artist. I've got a Macbook pro 17" early 2011 base model. now i need a machine witch is capable of rendering 3D environments etc and regular video and digital art work. witch is better for me? a upgraded 27" mac pro, or a full spec iMac, witch is basically a laptop with a SSD.

Is the mac pro worth it or should i get an iMac, off course i will wait for a 2012 refresh.

    thanks,

    Sam

  • You pronounced Bondi correctly! :)

  • For me the lowercase i stands for insanely expensive :D

  • Pod Man, is probably some chinese clone

  • I thought the i came from Jobs' job title when he returned to Apple: iCEO

  • That would make Siri the PhoneMan.

  • Is this a Mac Pro in the Background? (12Core)

  • Do you like Apple? xD

  • R.I.P Steve Jobs!! Thank You for everything!!!!

  • ManPhone4

  • The name Apple comes from forbidden knowledge of the computer like the bible.

  • Did Apple Corps. Owned by the Beatles sue Apple Computers

  • Lol, your username would have been Mattsbicycle.

  • dude yr awesome

  • Also, the X in Mac OS X, Xcode, etc. are from the X in the X11 Windowing System which is more of a behind-the-scenes framework in Mac OS X.

  • @TheBloodyKnife1 Yep, I have a Windows PC Laptop

  • @MattsMacintosh is it a hackintosh :P

  • @zainuintel Its a i7 Sony Vaio I think.

  • @MattsMacintosh Its probably collecting dust... and from 2000... XD

  • Did you read Andy hertzfields book?

  • 2001 Space Odyssey.

That's funny, iPod was introduced in 2001.

    Happy 10 years, iPod.

Wonder what the 10th media event has for us. (:

Now I can't wait til September.

  • Bike OS X? lol

  • Sorry if someone already mentioned this, but I am going to say it anyway. The "i" stood more for just Internet. Steve Jobs said that at the keynote. All of the things he said were:

    Internet

    Individual

    Instruct

    Inform

    Inspire

and one he didn't mention, but something Apple always does... innovation.

  • @Hildron101010 The confusion lies with what Apple marketing later came up with and what the actual origin of the term is. Ken Segall, the man who named the iMac, has repeatedly said that he originally came up with the "i" for internet. All the "individual, etc.." stuff came later in the process. Its similar to the Apple Lisa; everyone knows it was named for Jobs' daughter, but Apple officially said it stood for Local Integrated Software Architecture. As I said, the "i" started as "internet".

  • @MattsMacintosh Oh, I just didn't think those other iTerms came later because he said them at the initial release. Thanks for the info though.

  • @Hildron101010 No problem. Thanks for watching!

  • the ”i” stands for internet, individual, instruct, inform, inspire. just go to watch?v=0BHPtoTctDY and pause at 0:41

  • MattsBicycle?

  • That would be interesting lol :)

  • wouldn't it be the "manbike"

  • Actually, The name Apple was derived from the summer of 1974 where Steve Jobs happily spent a warm august afternoon picking apples with his friends in the homebrew computer club.

  • @ProMediaShare Source? I've seen other origins as well, but I'm much more inclined to believe Wozniak than any random website.

  • @MattsMacintosh You know, I am inclined to believe him myself, but as I was doing a report on Steve Jobs for school I uncovered that. I can't remember the link but If you search Steve Jobs on google you may find it. :)

  • I like your videos very much. They're simple, funny and informative at the same time. And good looking too. :)

  • I just love my PhoneMan! I like the LifeMan suite as well XD

  •  podman

    SONY Walkman

  • What does the "e" in eMac stand for? Maybe E-Mail?

  • @alex23917 Nope, education. They were made for schools.

  • I love you dude I watch all of your videos my chanel is MrZbkMan I am 9 and coming out with thec videos soon!

  • All you people are stupid the i in the names of Apple products does not stand for internet.

  • @iAppleStop It originally did. “It referenced the Mac, and the “i” meant internet" - direct quote from Ken Segall, the man who named the iMac, the first Apple product to use the "i". Like I mentioned in another comment, though, it doesn't really stand for anything now, its just for brand uniformity.

  • I WANT A BIKEBOOK AIR SO BADLY. haha

  • Great work Matt!! Loved the little history!!

  • @mtpflyers Thanks dude. I appreciate the comment.

  • Why would Steve Jobs call the Macintosh, Bicycle. Weird. Love you videos Matt, keep up the good work!

  • That's amazing.... Istead of an imac it could've been bikeman

  • I love how you are so original with your Mac videos! Great Job!

    James

  • Steve Jobs mentions in the iMac keynote address in 1998 that the 'i' in iMac also stands for "individual, instruct, inform, inspire and internet".

  • your vids need to be longer

  • ePod- eMac

  • I guess I had the idea that the "i" came from Steve Job's job description - the "interim" CEO or iCEO. I've somehow associated the i with interim

  • It seems that in your background your G4 Cube is always around, it makes me smile every time I see it. G4 Cube FTW

  • Yay a new MattsMacintosh video! I love your videos they're better than the other tech guys

  • 97 likes and 1 douche

  • Itechmacbooks

  • Nice vid!

  • Make longer videos! =)

  • Great history lesson, I like your style!

  • I thought apple came from newtons theory with the apple?

  • doesn't i also mean individual

  • Steve Jobs picks terrible names.

  • You should do a video about an eMac. I have heard little about them and were they a fail or a success. And how were they different from iMacs?

  • Great video! I do tech videos well! Check out my channel!

  • if they would have went with Bike..i know one of em would have been

    called Scooter :) lol

  • cool i never knew most of that stuff u said!!

  • and just think in a parallel universe where people use the BikeBook Air and PodMan Touch, theres a Matt just like you talking about how their products names would be so much different if their equivalents to macs were called the iMac, or iPod, or Macintosh Computer.

just to throw a twist in there. lol

  • hey matt. are you picking up a TAM anytime soon?

  • BikeMan is codename for iMac!

  • From one of Job's keynotes the "i" also was to represent "individual" because the iMac was made for the consumer, not the high end power user. The power users got the Power mac series.

  • internet pad

  • I love you!!! You finally got that thing with the perception depth of field thing right !!!!!!

  • Great video, very interesting on how different names of Apple products would be if Steve named them.

  • Good job! I didn't know about the stereo company deal. I guess that company didn't make it!

  • Your vids are awsome!!!!

  • imagine the new apple phoneman 4

  • "Hey man, what kind of computer do you have?"

    "BIKEBOOK PRO!"

  • The iPod was originally supposed to be the name of the Apple store, I heard. It would have been an internet cafe type of place where you could lounge around and use the Macs there online. This was before the widespread adoption of the internet, I guess. Funny how the first iPod to have internet capabilities was in 2007. I call all Apples products with an i by the full name. Try it out: internet life, internet work internet pod internet book. it sounds weird.

  • @MSComputerVideos The I-Pods were an actual business that worked just as you described, except they were more a kiosk than a cafe. Apple had to pay to use the name (which is kind of a trend).

  • Comment removed

  • @MSComputerVideos actually I'm completely wrong. Never mind. I dunno what made me think that this 'iCarly' show came up with it.

  • I've never seen an Apple fanboy as big as you. I'm not saying this in a rude way, I'm just sort of saying "Gosh, you have a lot of Apple products!"

I'm so jealous. I only have an iMac, MacBook Pro, a few iPods and iPhones and some iPod USB connectors :(

  • @MattsMacintosh So I assume the i in iPhone is for internet or is it something else?

  • @Campwise05 It doesn't really stand for anything anymore. It was "internet" for the iMac, and then from there is just more for brand uniformity.

  • I WANT A BIKE BOOK AIR!!!!

  • @SuperSmashBros100 the problem with that you see if you were to put "bike" in front it wouldn't fit in an manilla envelope:P

  • Does the "e" in eMac stand for education?

  • @patten08 Yes

  • @patten08 Yep.

  • Awsome job, but could have been a little longer.

  • Amazing! I have learned so much from this video!

  • i want yo CUBE!!!!!!

  • Once again, I learned something new from watching a video of yours. Thanks for another entertaining, and educational, video!

  • Thanks for the informative video! I didn't know that!

  • I like the origin of Apple videos. Keep them up.
