why always that there is a great band out there something has to go wrong with it.. like one of the members comm suicide or the vocalist being too egotistical and idiot and mess up with what made the band great,...
Nirvana was an okay band but they had thousands of 14yr old girls after them who fucked shit up with 'OMFG SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT IMA GO CUT MYSELF". Yeah, I think Smells Like Teen Spirit ruined the band. They're not that bad, fans make them look bad; ex metalichell. The point is, there's no need to compare or argue about it - listen to both and enjoy...or don't
A lot of haters truly suck, I listen to this and think about the artist. I'm a muso too, crap one at that, but understand the drive to write what you truly feel. It may be dark and dirty, but so is life... no one in this type of music is impersonating any one. They are writing / preforming what it is they feel. not some manufactured crap from now. we should all feel so luck as to have real feelings / emoticons to connect with...
Alice in Chains was really great band and the Dirt album top 10 best albums in the 90's for sure. But Nirvana was better.Even after that marvelous Dirt album Alice in Chains tried to imitate Nirvana playing a Unplugged concert for the MTV and doing songs like 'Heaven besides you' trying to sound like Nirvana not only in the music, but in the voices also when Cantrell sang there.Nirvana was more pure at the end.Anyway I love both bands and Soundgarden,Pearl Jam, Babes in Toyland, L7, Mudhoney etc
@sergiosimonsanz trying to imitate nirvana ha... who? AIC? both had an unique sound, sorry but "heaven besides you" has nothing to do with any nirvana song. AIC was like a heavy melancholy while nirvana was softer and more noisy. but who cares both were fuckin awesome
Nirvana pop?? No man.The fucking MTV tried to show Nirvana as pop.But the people who knows well all their songs know that their were pure alternative rock.Much noise and sound like Sonic Youth sometimes, many not comfortable riffs and distortion, fury screams, rage. The people who only watch the MTV are innocent pop-people and don't know all about the variety of sounds inside the grunge bands.Rage or calm, fast or slower, good grunge bands were great alternative rock!!!
@demolitionracoon1881 no man, I am a big Nirvana fan and i also like Pearl Jam very much, and I press a thump-up because is also like this band, so what does it matter man, don't be a thumps up bitch ;-) but i am glad you also like this music i think
Let's face it We were SPOILED back then! It makes me laugh people arguing whose better aic or nirvana. No matter who you prefer even the worst track either could have produced would wipe the floor with any current bands output. Jesus I feel old!
when i first heard this song neither did i but now i love it, it definately grew on me. I once saw someone describe their sound as 'rusted evil' which i thought was perfect for them, awesome band
3:45 you can tell layne is high as a kite, I dont think anyone can imitate that heroin glaze, "sickman... sickman sickman sickman" and one of the most talented voices in music, alice in chains is timeless
You say 50Cent-I Say Led Zeppelin You say Miley Cyrus-I say AC/DC You say T-Pain-I say Deep Purple You say Flowers-I say Van Halen You say Pink-I say Pink Floyd You say Hip Hop-i say Jimi Hendrix You say Green Day- i say Alice in chains You say Kanye West-i say Layne Staley You say R&B-I scream Classic Rock You say hanah montana-i hit you in the face 70% of tenagers hav turnd 2 Hip Hop n Rap...we blong 2 that 30%. DON'T LT D SPIRIT rock die
who has the time machine ? I wanna go back to the 90's I am soooooooooooooo sick of the me me me generation and the fricking keyboard warriors . stop your bitching and philosophise like the men and women you are . the sharpens edge , projectile weapon and the explosive device should match your wit.
suicide through any medium is a hard task for any earthling , I'm holding off until I see as much as I can. lets see how well the Romans politically used Christianity to take over the world .
@flartie you definitely have to check out songs like bleed the freak, would?, man in the box, we die young, them bones, dam that river,...man there's so many great songs by this band. if you can, i'd suggest to go and listen to their albums in their entirety, especially Dirt.
I dont think so. I think layne lyrics were better than kurt, I even think that meetpuppets were much better than nirvana, nirvana I had was a much more "pop" that was based on its success. Their sound was more comfortable for people
@grungeromexico Both are great bands but other than the well known single I don't think most of Nirvana's output was 'comfortable' for people. Check out songs like 'Milk it' or 'Beeswax'. obviously not 'Pop' music.
you can see Layne got less and less involved during this album until he was gone. A god in the music world he lives on in our hearts and is truely missed.
what i love to get inside there minds....i wanna be part of their dreams...... miss you Layne......... I want those days back...............Love this video.........what a cool place to be
the self titled album is pure genius...it's amazing that no one else seems to see that...also it's amazingly produced by Toby Wright as well and with the exception of AIC i swear Toby Wright has barely produced anything else thats rly worth listening to...
This album is a masterpiece. It's dark, heavy, deep. Not simple to appreciate initially, but later it's the one I continue to listen the most from AIC.
Some people amaze me "Layne's death may not have been imminent, but it was almost inevitable" Come on man he was takeing shit that was rotting him away. I listen to AIC and i never think about laynes "problems" i just enjoy the music, you guys are so fucking morbid. It hurts to see the guy go like he did we needent be reminded all the time by sadistic douchebags geez.
That is, sadistic douchebags who have, through personal experience, a greater understanding of their music. Songs have lyrics for a reason bro, if something strikes a chord with someone then just let it be, you dunno what they been through. I'm not mad, I just wish everyone would stop hating on eachother is all.
I wouldn't say Layne was fucked up, I'd say he was just a certain type of person. I'm pretty sure I'm the same type myself. I've taken so many drugs I that I see hideous demons wherever I go. I nearly flipped at one point and I've been stalked by slithering things called the "shadow people" ever since.
@staleycobainmorrison yes bud! exactly if layne staley was alive and you mentioned his addiction hed kick the fuck out of you and then ask if you liked the song lol
Pause at Layne's face at 3:46. Look at his expression. Anyone get the feeling he knows something we don't? There is deep knowledge hidden in this song and in this video. Draw your own conclusions...
You're right - I just scrolled down looking for a comment like this to see if anyone else noticed that after seeing his expression. Sadly, it looks as though he didn't need to act for this video.
Stop obsessing over Laynes problems and just enjoy it and be thankful that he gave us this amazing music. I'm sick of all this talk about death and dope and depression, how about talking about something else? something positive? sure he was probably suffering at this point but his voice is still godly. Rest peacefully Layne Staley
Don't remember picking a fight with you. Don't remember questioning the brilliance of Layne or AIC either. If I freak you out just be straight about it. We both like the same music so what's the problem?
@erraticchromatic i totally agree with you except for the fact that layne's voice had obviously withered terribly by this stage - which is only three years after he had the most powerful voice in rock
@DannyKilmartin Yeah man. Layne knew where he was going. Deep down we all do. The signs are all around us. When I first opened my eyes I had to shut them again if y'know what I mean.
