I wouldn't say it's a rip off of Depeche Mode, but I definitely heard the influence immediately.

@billperkins74 I wouldn't necessarily say it's an influence, but certainly there is some similarity. Could have been an unconscious thing, or it's possible that Matt Nathanson has never even listened to Depeche Mode and it is a complete coincidence. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable about music could probably cite 10 more songs with a similar beat.
