  • Which one better, betta or Gourami?

    Everybody please answer

  • My gorimi doesn't do much

  • I mean any other fish you could keep with a betta

  • @Dangerdude000 Mollies, Cory cats, if very very heavily planted even some guppies.

  • Oh would you happen to know a fish that you can keep with a Betta?

  • *gourami*

  • Will they fight?Like at all?Because I'm planning on getting a gourami if they dont fight I'll get a hourami

  • @Dangerdude000 Hi! As was mentioned in the replies below. You really need a large tank to try and make it work. yes, sometimes it depends on the fish behavior, but for the most part and from my experience being a moderator on a Fish site, these two do not normally get along. Best of luck! :-)

  • is it only dwarf or is it all gouramis? O,.o because i have a male 3 spot gourami and i was planning on getting a crowntail betta >.<

  • u can keep them together i got 6 female 1 male 2 bumble bee catfish i want to say atleast 15 and 2 dwarf guramies 2 pleco and a couble of tetra,s have floating plant on top they wont bother each other i promise i breed both species they dont fight in my 75 gallon just put some aquatic plants on top of the water in nature bettas rest on floating plants thats why they are out of each others way ok

  • If you have a big tank which is well planted you an keep them together , but if it is not well planted you cant keep them together goramis get along well with Platies, gguppies, tetras, and danios im a fish expert who breeds fish guppies etc email me at Lopez4life@live.com

  • I think it depends on the fish's attitude, and what tank it's coming from

Because, I have a Male Betta in my 55 Gallon with my Gold Gourami and my Opaline Gourami. And they never fight.

  • @magic556 they never fight because the tank is so big

  • I have a question: I just got my blue gourami and it seems to be really shy i guess yo could say. I have him in with 2 male guppies and a pleco. Everytime i approch the fish tank the gourami darts under the rock that i have set up so im not sure if he is getting any of the food i am putting in the tank. Do you have any suggestions?

  • I have a red female betta and powder blue gourami in my 10 gallon together, and they have no issues with each other that I've ever seen. Been living together in their for a little over a year now without conflict. Like Voltron said, the personality of the fish makes a big difference. However, I would never recommend putting a male betta with a dwarf gourami, but there are a select few cases where it works for some reason.

  • I have a gourmi and a female betta in the same tank and they both are fine. I think it depends on the fish

  • i have a red male betta and a female betta and a male dwarf gourami they all live peacefully with male guppies and mollies. then again my betta is unusually placid , he doesnt even display to the female.

  • ours chased each other about for a day then the betta lives in the left and the gourami lives in the right. both have lots to hide in, no problems (touch wood). lets see the "experts" stick there comments here! (not trying to start a fight honestly xxx)

  • I KEPT BOTH OF THEM WITHOUT KNOWING THIS :(

  • @hanros98

ME TOO!!! but the gourami is kind of scared of the betta but the betta never threatens it...it's fascinating

  • A mi no me queda claro, en la tabla de compatibilidad pone que son compatibles los bettas y los gouramis, y luego hay gente que dice que no....entonces???

  • ive just got one today and put it in my 10 gallon with 2 bala sharks and 1 pictus cat. its amazing!!! it already started eating 2 hrs after realese in the tank and is very curios, sumtimes nipping my fingers. he\she loves cucumbers and flakes!

  • in da wild they compete with each other to survive

  • @S3ANxyooj No they don't. One lives in Thailand, the other lives in Pakistan.

  • @syketo foo look it up on google....

  • your betta looks off balance....

kind of like what mine does....

except it goes upside down >.>

    use to anyway

  • My Dwarf Gourami is a mean little guy. My entire community tank revolves around him unfortunately. More than half the fish in my tank right now have had disputes with him, and he has put them ALL in their place. He's just so beautiful that I don't want to give him up though. I definitely suggest keeping these guys alone in smaller tanks. They do not play nice.

  • dont forget, fish r living things too, and no doubt they have personalities 2, i have been keeping dworfs for many years in comunity tanks and they have been a dilte to have:3

  • ive had three dwarf gouramis, and they were always the biggest fish in the community. they always start out as great community fish but somewhere down the line (a few months, a year) they start to realize that they're the biggest fish around. and in my experience they always take advantage of that. the one i have now has been around for about 4 months and he attacks everything in the tank a few times a day.

  • yeah my figher fish wasnt very welcoming to my two new dwarf gourami's....... had to send it to timeout in a seperate small bowl

  • i have a question if u don't mind me asking. How often do u feed your gourami i just got two of them and i wanted to know?????

  • Once a day. Remember to add some meaty foods into their diet once a week or so. (eg. bloodworms.)

  • i feed all ny fish 1-3 times a day.

  • lol that's what I did + my betta looks exactly the same as yours!

  • Same problem, betta got worsted by gourami, very aggressive- did for the female gourami too, keeps having a go at the guppies as well.

  • bettas and gourmi's will fight due to both being in the same family. i found out the hard way. had 2 male and 2 female gourmi's and 1 male fighter in my tank. put the gourmi's in and the next morning 2 dead male gourmi's and that day i got in from work to 2 dead females. he had bitten the eye off 1 of the gourmi's!!

  • My flame dwarf gourami fights with my koi angelfish! both similar sizes only angel alot taller obviously & gourami a little longer.

He is not fearful of the beautiful cichlid 1 bit. they often solve disputes with body language and fin displays but sumtimes they get pretty physical and actually fight!. its about 50/50.... half the time the gourami chases angelfish away other times vice versa. so far its not been 2 serious

in my experience dwarf gourami is a pretty agressive little fish!

  • i have a pale blue and red flame dwarf gourami with 4

    3 week old molly fry

never taken a nip at them.

  • i see no koi in this tank...

  • @Reyairia wut the hell r u talking about? i c no koi

  • I have 3 male gourami, 2 blue dwarf and 1 red. Every now and then I'll check them chasing each other!

  • they are fighting because they are in the same family. bettas and gouramis are related and both labyrinth breathers so thats why they are fighting

  • Why is the betta giving a threat display to a gourami? It's even weirder still that the betta isn't flaring his gills.

  • i have exact the same betta,

and exact the same dwarf gourami

    =D

  • omg backbencher08 your tank must be massive. at least a 90 gallon

  • I had a female dwarf gourami with females bettas and they ignored each other....geez boys will be boys

  • Bad that you had to separate them. I have four discus, a pair of lion-head golds, a pair of black golds, one neon gourami, two bettas, two eels, several algae eaters, plenty of snails, three pairs of different fresh water sharks and four angels in the same tank. They live. The angels have paired and are constantly at each other. Dumb golds always have to swim between fighting angels and the problem is sorted out. Keep fishes together till you find that they can't stand eachother. Then separate.

  • i have a blue male betta and a female orange gurrami can they live together in the same tank? today is the first day and betta is chasing gurami all around the tank.pls answer me in the store they said to me its ok.Maybe betta is stressed because its the first day????

  • Bettas and Gourami's should never be in the same tank together. They will fight. They both belong to the same family of Anabantoids, that have a labyrinth organ. That meaning they both go to the surface of the tank to breathe air. For some reason, and possibly due to being so closely 'related' in a sense, they do not get along at all.Everyone that I know that has tried this combo, finds that it just does not work. There is going to be injuries. You should bring the Gourami back asap.

  • @capekate haha im a bit late... but i have a fire dwarf and a clown tail. the dwarf is about two inches and the beta is about one and a half. when i first brought home the betta i couldnt get the gourami to leave the betta alone. so what i did was get a gallon fish bowl and fully acclimated the betta to the tank water. then i reinturduced him to the tank. the gourami would always go after him, but i sat next to the tank for an hour and a half, and I swatted him with the net whenever he...

  • @capekate (cont) ...attacked. he assosiated attacking with getting swatted, just like a dog. these creatures arent as dumb as people think. to date, hell chase the betta out of his territory some because he is still the big dog in the tank, but ive even caught them eating during meal time right next to eachother. they can be a funny pair. another thing to note is i have several plants and two caves, one of which only the betta can get in. tank: 10g with 4 danios and the gourami and betta.

  • @capekate Before i saw this i had a betta and a dwarf gourami that did fine... my betta got sick and died a day ago. (walmart betta) i have a hexagon 35 gallon so maybe that helped

  • @johnpecn your male betta thinks the gourami is a female betta

  • ucant keep them together..

  • please read my reply below... they are not together anymore.

  • Well, that's funny because I have a male betta and a pair of honey gouramis (male/female) in a 10-gallon tank and I've had them together for about two years now with no problems. The betta has his favourite corner and he defends it but nobody chases anybody. They get along fine.

  • betta strange fish....about gouramis i think theyre more quite fishes, and they dont like to much messing with other, but sometimes they can be very angry to other fishes like bettas or diferent types of gouramis.....

  • i agree one my gouramis got his back bitten into so i move it out the tank.i think it was his other half, also i got a black molly who also bites the gouramis

  • MOLLYS AND XIFOS ARE VERY POWERFUL AND AGRESIVE,(males)

IF U HAVE 2-3 MOLLYS OR XIFO MALES IN SAME TANK MANY TIME U WILL SEE FIGHTS...(this even if its foul the tank with females) SO GOURAMI IS NOT AND AGRESIVE FISH,AT LEAST TO MY EXPERIENSE ON FISHES.

IM BETTA BREEDER AND I HAVE RIGHT NOW 100-150 BETTAS + MANY 4 WEEK OLD BETTAS , and when i see my tank of frys in 10 minutes i recolnise many atacks to each-other (even they are 3 weeks old)...so bettas are really agressive but perfect fish....

  • PH33R T3H L33TN3SS OF T3H CAPS LOCK!!!

Settle down dude, you made a good point but typing in all caps makes you seem like a 14 year old fanboy.

  • why do you have these fish mixed??

  • If you read the previous posts here, you would have read that these two fish have long since been separated. They were together for about 5 days and when the aggression started in the tank, the betta was moved to his own 10g tank. I would never keep aggressive fish together knowingly. This video was to show that these two species should not be kept together in the same tank.

  • Larialea- Sorry, but that's not true. Wild bettas are a greenish-brown in color. The coloration has nothing to do with the aggression.

Gouramis and bettas CAN be housed together, but it depends on the temperment of the individual fish. Some bettas will be aggressive towards gouramis as they look somewhat similar in appearance.

I have a betta and a flame dwarf gourami in a 10 gallon. The gourami will chase the betta away if he gets too close, but other than that I haven't had any problems.

  • For the most part, Gourami's and Betta's cannot be together.I have not known any other fishkeeper who has had success with them together in the same community tank. You are right, it really all depends on the temperment and occasionally you will find two that can be together, but that is very rare. ~ kate

  • My betta is still a bit young, but we'll see how it all turns out as he gets older. Hopefully nothing changes, and that this is one of those rare occasions, lol. Bettas aren't recommended as community fish by some aquarists as they are an easy target for more active and agressive fish, and their aggressive nature towards similar fish.

  • ive had no problems with my betta and gouramis to date, although my betta is an absolute wuss...hehehe

  • then you are one of the lucky ones. Good luck with that. For the most part these two species will fight with each other. Most everyone I know that has had them together has had to separate them.

  • i have had a betta for six months now and hes been kept with 2 dwarf guramis for this length of time and they havent so much as noticed each other. they live in peace:)

  • amongst other fish i had a red male betta housed with 2 golden dwarves. one male one female. everything was fine. once i introduced another two Neon gouramis it all hit the fan. the betta flared his gills and would charge at one of my neons in particular (the most dominant of the two). until 20 minutes later i said okay thats enough and gave the betta his own home. but the betta was fine with my two dwarves at first!

  • i read somewhere in a fish magazine that bettas will always be agressive to any other type of fish that is red in color.... because in the wild all bettas were originally red

  • that is very interesting. I hadn't read that. Thanks for the input. These two have long since been seperated. I put the betta in his own 10g tank right after this video was made. He is still doing great, the dwarf gourami was given away to a friend.

  • yes they can..thank you

  • what about gourami and gourami..do they go together? i have a Opaline gourami and a dwarf..any advise..thay hate eachother..getting a bigger tank soon 10 g for the dwarf..

  • Hi there, my two gouramis also fought. One is always going to be the aggressor of the two and can get pretty territorial. Its a good idea, if they dont get along to go ahead and seperate them. If you notice one getting darker at times, its showing its stress. good luck with your gouramis. They are beautiful but can be aggressive at times.

  • I have found that the dwarf gourami and betta do not get along together in a tank. Others have tried also and the majority agree that these two fish will fight. Other than the gourami, I have found the betta to get along with others in the tank. You can watch for any aggresion if you do release him into the tank and be prepared to move your betta to another tank. They really are happier by themselves in their own tanks. good luck with your betta and gourami.

  • i have just bought a male betta and am keeping him in a box on the front of the tank. he looks really unhappy and i am thinking about releasing him into the community tank with my dwarf guarami and see how they go, any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

  • does your betta fight with your gourami?

  • the problem here is just that the tank isn't planted well enough. i keep a pair of bettas and 5 (2m/3w) dwarf gouramis together, all the males have built bubble nests and there are absolutely no conflicts between bettas and gouramis, but then again i have yet to see a heavier planted tank than mine.

  • Hi there, well If I was able to post a photo you would see that my tank is loaded with plants. The bottom is practically covered everywhere with live and artificial plants. Glad that you are having success with your gouramis and bettas! :-) The betta that I have chased and flared and aggrevated the dwarf gourami constantly.

  • maybe the problem is the lacking of tall plants that helps to construct a secure places for hiding. i have also a tank (40g) with gouramies and bettas and i have not observed any problem so far -for a year.

  • very pretty but a betta and gourami should not be kept together. You can see the agression issue going on that will most likely get much worse.

  • I seperated the two on the 4th day together. This video was taken before that,. The betta now has his own 10g tank. Your right, they shouldnt be kept together and this is why I put the video out there, for others to see the interaction between them. thanks for stopping by and checking out my video! :-)
