That's basically what they are, yes! They're a group who not only make series of stories in their songs, but some songs are like little one-shots. They also re-enact the things on stage, kinda sorta. It has a pretty decently sized fanbase in Asia, and has been around for awhile.

As for where to start, different albums have different stories so you can start anywhere! But, if you're wondering who Marchen is and the story behind him, you'll probs want to go to the album before this one.
