I seem to be doing the right movement but cant get my board to pump fast my board is a landyachtz bamboo pinner plz help me tell me if this is a good board to pump or what can i do thanks guys for your time :)
When I first saw this video I had no idea how people could stay fast without pushing with the foot on the floor....now I can slalom pretty fast, and I can pump uphill and on flat without ever pushing ^^ for everybody who has to learn: just keep trying, try to imitate this video and as soon as you get the feeling that something has changed, you'll get it better and better.
Hey, I'm curious as to what is the difference between pumping and carving? From what I see on youtube... pumping has a smaller wavelength than carving? =S
I notice you have short (6-7") truck and small wheels, my set up is long truck (9") and large wheel (87mm) on a very stiff drop deck 41" long, wheelbase at 38".
Should I be replacing the truck and wheels, or should I simply get a whole new set for pumping?
Check out the pavedwave site and go to "How To Pump" link. There's a lot of tips and links to more vids there. It takes more doing and practicing than anything.
that was a one of a kind, RoeRacing 38" Foam Torsion Core. it finally busted last year as foam-cores are bound to eventually, especially with a guy like Skip cranking the hell out of it!
and thanks for all the other comments, this is by far my favorite MMW tune
yeah that dude is Skip Croteau, caught up with him a few years back, riding a tiny little G&S just like the one "SaintFu" is talking about a couple posts down. now he rides a longer foamcore, and he's a pumping maniac.
It's kind of similar, but it feels different depending on the board. My guess is that if you like snowboarding, you'd like longboarding. Just don't fall, cuz it hurts a lot worse.
AWESOME JOB! Thank you so much for putting this together. I first bigged out at the fact that there is a video of how to pump a longboard. Then I heard the MMW track kick in, this seriously made my day. Perfect Combo!
So, I've just discovered that G&S and FibreFlex are reissuing some old school boards. My favorite FibreFlex carver of all time is not among them, however. It was about 27" long, maybe 7.5" long, about 5 plies and very flexible. The trucks were very narrow Bennetts. No one makes them that narrow anymore. What's the best carving board you can buy today?
if you haven't already, check out the reissued Bennetts, they carve sweet on just about any board. and there are so many good carving boards, high-tech snappy composites like Motion, RoeRacing, Landyacthz, and Fibreflex is still an awesome stick!
Thanks for the comments- the music is by Medeski Martin and Wood. If you've already got carving down, just compress a little more into each carve, and spring out of it, focus on popping out of each turn -- investing energy in the transitions. And if there's anyone running cones/slalom in your neighborhood, drop in on sessions with them!
I love this movie. Can somebody teach me to pumpcarve like that? all I do when I carve is control speed and slow down if I have to. I Can't keep going on carve alone. any suggestions? I like the jazzy style music with this vid. it really captures the feeling and atmosphere.

sorry if this is a stupid question, but whats the difference between carving and pumping?
mga361 11 months ago
@mga361 basically, carving is to slow down, pumping is to speed up without pushing

@Yellowknight888 Forgive me if I'm wrong since I'm kinda new at longboarding but I thought that a little springier deck would be better for pumping?

basically u carve very hard and very fast and kinda push your weight into the direction u turn

@lostcause2390
you cant just start carving out of nowhere you need some soft bushings and good trucks or loosen your trucks
you need quick response turing

hey i just got a longboard last month having fun cruising but i wanna learn how to pump...can anyone help?
elvinjohn7 2 years ago
I just got my first longboard, and i think i kinda got it down...
All it is, is just changing your weight from heel to toes really fast, and throwing your weight a little in the weight u wanna carve.
Its tricky to get the hang of at first, and tiring on the legs learning lol
