There is no such thing as Hyper Shadow.

The only "Hyper Forms" are Hyper Sonic and Hyper Knuckles, and you get them by collecting the 7 chaos emeralds and the 7 Super Emeralds in S3K, there has never been an "Hyper" form after that.

That mistake is often commited because Sega made a mistake publishing something that talked about Shadow, and they called him Hyper Shadow instead of Super Shadow (Wich is the real name... at least for the superform that we're used to watch, not the one that some people imagine), so people got confused, after some time Sega realized about that mistake and corrected it, but the "Hyper Shadow" thing was already into a lot of people's mind. That's why there's that confusion.

My guess is that only Super Shadow could stand against Dark Sonic. In their regular forms, Shadow makes Sonic look like a fool. Sonic sets the odds in his favor with his Dark form, and Shadow evens it out with his Super form.
