@chthonic19 This has been pointed out numerous times, by myself and others. There are a couple of factual errors mentioned on the Halloween section of this video and the Escape From New York section. I made this video years ago during a long, long night, so yeah, there are a couple of errors.
@chthonic19 Thanks very much mate, and no worries, the two big errors I made are pretty unforgivable for a Carpenter fan lol, dunno how they slipped by me :)
@TheNoodle97 I recently went to see a brilliant print of the film on Halloween at this little retro cinema in Glasgow. It really does stand heads and shoulders above most horror films, certainly in the slasher genre ( I'd only place Psycho above it). Like I said in the video, on any other day my top John Carpenter films changes, I love everything he's done.
@Hallinilla9 Yes I realised this when once I had uploaded. I made another mistake in my Escape From New York section where I said it was a virus that Snake was injected with. Good spot.
The babysitter in Halloween isn't in the same house as Michael Meyers lived in. If you remember the doctor (Pleasence) leaves the Meyers house when discoveres the car and ends up in the house where meyers is chasing Jamie Lee Curtis (forgot the character name)
Trivia tidbit about "Escape from New York": The maker of the models of the city, including the Air Force One model, was made by James Cameron, who would later direct the film that would cement his name in cinema, "The Terminator".
and in escaep from new york he isent injected with a virus have you even seen it they do a scene about it they injest 2 small explosives and they will blow his artereys apart
Snake Pliskin wasn't injected with a virus but microscopic explosive charges lodged in his jugulars. Throughout the film we see the digital countdown that Snake carried with him to up the tension.
Oh wow, sorry. I didn't think to read the video description! I grew up with Carpenter's films. They are an important part of my memories. I can remember where I was and who I was with when I saw each of them. They were always atmospheric and surreal. And always had great images that stick in the mind. Modern horror directors have no grace or sense of composition in their shots. They just go for the gore. All the big budget remakes of his films are unwatchable. Your reviews are great. Peace.
You'll have to be a bit more specific as it's been a while since I've listened to this. I do remember however that when I recorded this I made an error about the house that Jamie Lee Curtis Baby sits in, is that what you are talking about?
Good list. I was worried you'd have Ghost from Mars or Village of the Damned on your list. My list is pretty much the same as yours (in a different order) with Dark Star being swapped out for Starman.
Wheres part 3? You cant leave me hangin like this dude. I know you still got "The Thing" and "The Fog" coming. Im interested to see where those go since you put "New York" and "Precinct" out of the top 5.
Halloween should be #1 its not my opinion but a fact!!

Actually, I DIDN'T guess that Laurie is babysitting in Michael Myers' house. Because she isn't.

Halloween is a little low in my opinion, they just dont make "horror" movies like that any more.

My favorite John Carpenter movie is one of his most disliked films -Prince Of Darkness- I have seen it over 60 times

@floatingcompassmedia I absolutely love that movie, one of his best!

Agree with your list so far, but I would have switched Prince of Darkness (fucking brilliant movie) with Escape... my thoughts so far...

Any other factual error please let me know as it was a long time ago I made this video and can't be sure. Thx.

Areashiftybun 3 years ago
Yeah, she babysits at a different house, and of course the fact that Halloween should of been #1 :P
J1MB08 3 years ago
Yeh, it's very easy to make Halloween #1 because of its impact and that it is such a well made film, however, I feel the others I listed edge it.

Thx, I have a soft spot for Ghosts of Mars, it doesn't work as a film, but there are some definite Carpenter moments.
