  • Ya I bought New Avengers#52 for a buck and I read it when I was sick and tired... and it nearly put me to sleep and after I finished reading it I feel asleep immeadiately. I woke up to find the issue of NA on my lap thinking, "What the hell is this doing here? Oh yeah that's right it put me to sleep."

  • nice editing at the end there lol

  • Hey, guys. Gotta ask: did you read the "Green Lantern - Blackest Night" issue #0 for FCBD? If so, what did you think of it, especially the epilogue written by Geoff Johns???

  • We taped a segment yesterday about it. Spoiler Alert: I thought it was boring.

    J.

  • Well, it was suppossed to be a very character driven issue.

I really liked it. Unlike Bendis's so-called "character driven issues" where nothing happens, I actually cared about what G.L. and Flash were talking about.

  • that was probably my favorite FCBD comic this year next to TMNT.

  • i saw the first 10 mins of the movie on the internet and then shut it off... i didnt need to see any more.

  • I really liked the FCBD Avengers book as well.

Did you guys happen to see X-Men Origins: Wolverine yet? I thought it was pretty mediocore.

  • Is it just me or does Bendis have to write a laugh track into everything? FCBD Avengers was like a giant sitcom. That was slightly off putting.

  • first comic i read;

    Spider-Man #50 Hollographic Cover.

Half Man, Half Spider - Spider-Man!!!

and the Nerd that was awoken would never again..be undone.

  • speaking of Dark Avengers, I just got the new marvel previews and it lists Matt Fraction as the writer for DA #7. Is this just a mistake or is he taking over the title or something? How fucking sweet would that be. Does anybody know anything about this?

  • Its says that in my Previews as well :p Probably because of this Dark X-men/Avengers crossover (which will suck)

btw if you actually want to read a good X-men crossover go back and get issues 7-9 of The Eternals.

As regards Previews need I say anymore than Captain America 601 drawn by Gene Colan....GENE COLAN.

If everyone dosen't buy it I will kneecap you!

  • ya, i just realized that he was writing that x-men crossover, i tend to avoid most X titles and all these dark reign mini's just seem like a waste of money. But cap 601 i'm sure will indeed be awesome.

  • 'recon Nick (goddamn) Fury is really the Red Hulk??

Hulk can get stronger... but how hot can hot get?? lol :P

  • oh yeah one more thing.

Namor has handed Ares his ass to him B4.

And only has been beaten by Thor cause he has amrour and a Mystic hammer and Namor has underwear.

    Represent that MF!! :P

  • Also SHIELD is fronted by Nick (God Damn) Fury.

I would expect him to be on the case aswell. - anywhoo..hopefully the comics will pick up in quality.

i havent bough any in ages... but am always looking.

    Rock On CCW...RAWK AWN.

  • I think it fits well that Dr Doom and Loki would assign Norman Osborne to take down the Avengers and corrupt the American government.

However as a Defenders fan i am against the involvement of Namor. As he is merely a rightous and just protector of Atlantis.

Too bad the issue that explains Normans GIANT leap in the marvel universe.. is completely uncollectable as it is garbage.

nice plot though..... horrible horrible comic.

  • i feel like im the only one who ever complains that the fight scenes suck.

but its like the MAIN reason i like kick ass super-heroes - the intricacies of the parlay.

    like wtf folks!!

  • Bendis is such a good plot designer - just brilliant!

Just wish they would get a good movement artist to play out some insightful and physical parlays.

  • I have to admit, the more i think about the Dark Avengers the more i like it.

    Norman as a political/corporate evil.

Sentry as a powerhouse but practically a villain because he has no will and easily guided.

im actually very interested. - However... i am still unimpressed that the action scenes are always gleamed over.. never giving each interaction insight into its incremental decisions, movements and reactions...Spider-man had the best insightful & movement diagrams around.

  • Not only Deadpool, Whats up with Sabertooth and Wolverine Being all buddy and shit, I mean come on Victor and Logan are always constantly at each others throat.

And all the other mutants who appeared in this movie was just pathetic. First Dragonball Evolution now this piece of crap movie, I mean what else is Fox Studios going to fuck up for us?

  • OH yeah I can't wait to hear jose destroy Wolverine Origins, What a crappy movie, I am going to do a review on this myself and put this movie in it's place.

  • You should do a review of the movie ZipBlock! That would be cool. I love watching people hate something as much as I do. :)

And yes, Spoiler Alert, I hated that piece of shit movie.

    J.

  • I hope you have a long and incensed diatribe on how they sh*! on DP. Same goes for you, too, Jose.

  • That was THE #1 thing a hated about it!!! Deadpool got the fucking shaft in that movie. No excuse for that bullshit.

    J.

  • Nope. No f*cking excuse at all!!! And what wat exascerbated it is that through the risible elevatar dialogue and subsequest action scene its clear they had a good handle on the character. Why they chose to ruin him so absolutely as to not even leave the opportunity for a future solo movie is baffling to say the least.

  • I liked the regular NA title more than what I found in the free comic book day issue. It felt like it was put together for a younger audience whereas the regular NA feels more adult oriented. Similar to how you couldn't finish those issue's of Batte For The Cowl, CCW, I couldn't finish this. The dialog made me cringe at times and Spider comically failed attemps at humor didn't help. I did love, however, how Bucky was finally starting to seem like the NA leader he should be towards issues end.

  • I agree with you on the "dialog" being quite laughable BP. That was my number one complaint with this issue. But you have to admit that art was awesome, right?

    J.

  • I hate the uniformly sqaure, cleft shin he drawn on everyone. Other than that no complaints here.

  • Meant to say "chin, not "shin".

  • I just want to let it be known that if when you guys do your Wolverine review....If Jose says he likes this movie... i will never visit this site again.

Hes always uber critical about everything, and this movie deserves the worst bashing a movie can get. Its an insult to comic fans and people with remote inteligence.

JOSE im counting on you to destroy WOLVERINE!!!!!

  • No pressure, huh, mason? I saw the movie so when, or if, we review it I think you'll be quite pleased with what I thought. No need to stop visiting our site...yet.

    J.

  • Only good thing about New Avengers #52 is that Son Of Satan shows up. But you know what he's doing....? He's on talking on the phone with is ex-wife! What The Fuck!

  • Haven't seen the issue yet? Was he eating chinese food at the time.

because you know talking while your eating is so freakin satanic!

  • Who is he? I've never seen before in any comic.

  • Son of Satan has been around for a while BP. Check out Marvel Zombies 4 for some of his current badassery.

    J.

  • I'm not into Marvel Zombies. My dollar doesn't reach that far. Mind giving me a quick rundown of why he's so badass?

  • He's the son of Satan dude. What more do you need to know?

Seriously though, he can be a bad ass character. It all depends on whose writing him. Bendis' makes him a complete whiny bitch in NA. That was ridiculous.

Check out his wiki page or wait for johnnyhorror to post on why he's such a bad ass for a complete answer.

    J.

  • Sure thing.

  • Dunno if you guys have seen the latest Lying in the Gutters column on CBR and the news of whats happening at Todd Mcfarlanes toy company and how he's completely shafted all the workers there.

I've bought some of his toys again but I will NEVER buy anything of his again. I'm sure the fanboys won't give a crap about the workers but damn that guy is some arsehole...

  • Ya, I did see that article. It doesn't surprise me at all. He's always come off as a prick. Haven't supported anything with his name on it for a long while...mostly cause he's a prick.

    J.

  • probably cause he's so badass, like spawn.

    lol

  • by saying you like this you have tore a hole in space & time that wiil cause damage because jose would never that not even if you gave him the Infinity Gauntlet

  • As a DC guy, Bendis' pension for making all his characters act cool is less noticeable to me in the more attitudinal Marvel Universe. Imagine him writing the Justice League. Somehow Wolverine and Spidey acting like characters from a Tarrantino film is way less obtrusive than say Superman or Wonder Woman would be.

  • Hey! No sleeping on the job! lol

  • Can't wait to check out this FCBD Avengers this weekend, but for me the crown jewel I'm looking forward to is dark horse's Aliens/Predator issue what a triumphant return!

  • Hopefully Dark Horse can bring it back to it's former glory AirborneBryan. I remember reading the original series when I was younger and loving the hell out of it. Didn't Chris Claremont write those issues?

    J.

  • Claremont wrote the mega epic Aliens Vs Predator: Deadliest of the Species. But the very first aliens comic was written by Mark Verheiden. That was the first comic I read.

  • NA #51 was just boring as hell and some of the art on the Avengers side was good as always. It's sound like the story is going to be about The hood and The NA are going to every one that can become the SS and stop the hood from killing/ use him, which sound, to me, even more boring.

About Avengers: FCBD, The art sound great but the story sound like something that didn't go out to the comic series so they release on FCBD.

The FCBD comic that i'm looking for is BN #0 it is going to be so good!

  • and not make every potential encounter amount to a crapy group montage and 2 snapshots of static posing.

lasting a whole of 3 pages.

    MEEH!!

  • He dosnt want to go through 2 years worth of story synopsis too quickly??

Then they should put the same amount of action that ELEKTRA had - but with some Avenger and webslinging smackdown!

  • what is the deal with the Dark Avengers anway... if all these villians are impersonating the identities of heroes, why arent they being confronted by the heroes and whoever else is noticing them as a copy??

Bendis is a fantastic Plot Creater but i cant stand to look at page after page of his facial expression crap. and the action is as drab as hell. bad bad comics.

but still - great overlying plots.

he is in the wrong field.

  • "...if all these villains are impersonating the identities of heroes, why aren't they being confronted by the heroes and whoever else is noticing them as a copy??"

Because they are all sitting around eating Chinese food and jerking each other off. Bendis' wouldn't have it any other way.

    J.

  • Issue #50 of NA has all the answers to your question.

  • if Norman Osborne was under a secret identiy like Baron Zemo then i wouldnt mind.

Wolverines son being exactly like wolverine is a missed opurtunity for originality as not many heroes can born sons in the timeline.

Spider-man is not in Yafir's league so he calls...powerman, wolvie and spider-woman-hahaha. - New Avengers should be the secret avengers - but then thats what fukin x-men is anyway. i just want some spider-man..

ne way.... Norman osborne being accepted - nar not me.

  • When Norman took over the Bugle to piss off Peters world i could Petes dealing with him as a sign of resolve.

When Spidey and BlackCat broke out Norman Osborne - it was the last straw for Marvel Knights Spider-Man.

Unlike Baron Zemo, Norman Osborne is running around acting like a hero and teaming up with the Avengers.... sorry.. im not getting that.

btw...wolverines son? - in the words of Jose.. "what the fuck is this shit?"

  • i am stunned i couldnt believe what i was seeing

cant wait to read this book now

  • Ace job on calling marvel on their shit with their marketing plans.

  • Jose, why do you drink bottled water now as opposed to Red Bull. Part of the reason I started drinking it is because you made it look so delightful.

  • I was drinking Red Bull in the first video. I usually then move on to water. Mixing it up is fun sometimes...but not always.

    J.

  • this book deffinitely has my attention.

i think the differnece with Bendis in this book is that hes not trying to over- extrapolate their pathology which would give the characters Bendis' own psychology. lol - does that make sense?

lol anyway - spider-man is in it? ill have to check it out.

  • Bendis has it in him to write good shit, he just has his head up his own ass at the moment. Mark Millar seems to share this same affliction.

  • Millar has a beer up his rectum along with a Hollywood agent. ;-)

  • O_o

    J.

  • dood u fell asleep during video there... lmao. not very professional. have u herd of editing out mistakes such as this?

  • No, I haven't. What is this "editing" u speak of Hammy?

    J. (is for Jacks)

  • It's that thing Marvel's too lazy to do to Bendis!

  • Hey-oh! Zing!!!

    :)

    J.

  • My understanding as it relates 2 the Avengers (slim) title is that Marvel's considering doing more of its titles this way as a way of perhaps keeping costs down, or even dropping prices sleightly. Since Jose has already stated that he wasn't crazy 'bout the new look, l was curious as 2 how u felt about it, Elliot... Especially if it can pass savngs along 2 the customer / fan-person!!! Sooo...whatcha think? An inquiring mind would like 2 know.

  • I'm all for the slimline format as Warren Ellis uses for his book 'Fell' or even Matt Fraction's 'Cassanova' which uses limited coloring

  • Anything that makes comics more affordable is a good thing, but this was a case of Marvel cutting costs with their FCDB book and making it smaller than the standard size comic. I think the slim line book idea is awesome, but no one's doing it now that Fell and Casanova have fallen off the map.

    Elliott

  • I'm not a fan of it, keep the comics the size they are but use rougher paper like they have in Vertigo comics, I think it looks better too.

Alternatively I'd love to see a return to black and white magazines like Savage Sword of Conan back on the newstands.

  • Editorial doing their job and Bendis doing a good comic, Who'd have thunk it?

Although he has shown the ability to do one in dones, I think he porpusely writes the way he does normally to get that dollar.

  • Me am Bizarro Jose me love Bendis

  • Me Bizarro Jose am not laughing at unfunny joke.

    B.J.

  • Me Bizarro deemar am leaving never to return, me cry tears of happiness

  • Lol, I apologize for the joke then, I enjoy ur guy's rants btw. : )

  • Aw, shucks. Thanks splendedwarrior. :)

    J.

  • Cool! I wasnt planning on going to free comic book day but i'll definetely consider picking it up. What do you guys think of Ultimate Spider-Man?

  • $3.99 Bendis title (22 pages) equals no buy. FCBD book at least pick it up.

    Matthew

  • Ditto. Except NA. I'm addicted. :-(

  • I'd like to put Bendis in a box....and prod him with a Bamboo Stick, too. MAO! MAO! WRITE A GOOD STORY! MAO! MAO!! MAO!!!

  • u made me lol in my pants

  • Actually, I pooped a little in mine.

    J.

  • I'd like to water board him and make him watch Tarantino movies till he pukes

  • I would actually like to put him in a box with three hardcore feminists after they read a few of his books.

    J.

  • handcuff him to Camille Paglia and have them chased cross-country a la Sidney Poitier/Tony Curtis in the Defiant Ones :D

  • As far as sales are concerned, Bendis ain't broke...why would Marvel fix him?

  • Of course not. And Michael Bay's movies make millions of dollars, so why ask him to change anything about the films he creates? And American Idol pulls in millions of viewers, as does all sorts of reality television. Why fiddle with a winning formula? Following that rationale, artistic merit has absolutely no place in comics as long as they sell, right?

    Elliott

  • Good god they've explaned this a million times already. High sales does not mean good comics just as high viewing figures does not mean good tv.

and just to clarify what high selling means, a high selling book now would have been a mid level book back in the 80's. Comics sales are inexorably falling decade by decade and companies are not helping by preaching to the converted and aiming all their books at the fanboys.

  • I get it.

  • Because people will catch on to his tricks and quickly move on
