ah this brings back memories when i first got to do this, very fantastic views you get with this airplane oh and it may not look like it but its a very smooth ride even going through clouds, btw very nice video m8.
i have flown that plane and the grob 109 powered glider (and many other glider types) while stationed in germany in giebelstadt and we wore those flexible beach sun hats.. cause your head can cook in those canopys even tho u can get up there where its dam cold lol.. Great launch by the way, thats all i did was winch starts, never tried a tow launch.
Your passenger gave you thumbs up and said it all . . . AWESOME!!! You talked him through all of it and you both looked like you had the flight of your lives. I loved watching it. Happy gliding!!!
I've just switched to winching here in New Zealand from years of aerotow. First few scared me. Now I describe it as a combination of an aircraft carrier launch followed by a roller coaster. Finally it's fun! Summer about to start here (November).
I just wish people would leave the original sound of the recording rather than setting random songs as soundtracks - we can play our own favourite music in the background while we watch, if we so wish :-p
Good launch, has the guy in the back got good line of sight with that PEAK baseball cap on, I did'nt think they were aloud ?? bad skills in my book, hey ho would'nt like to be in the same airspace as them, good luck !
The guy in the back is a passenger. There are no hat rules here in the US, but baseball hats are a bad choice both for visibility and the pain that comes from smacking the little button on the top if your head hits the canopy for some reason. :-)
@spuduk7 The guy in the front is the instructor and the guy in the back is just a passenger. Launch height at this location with 2 aboard is about 1,200 to 1,3000 ft
@7cle HIGHLY experienced flight school owner and instructor in front, the guy in back is another instructor, along for the ride. He spends most of his time in his ASG-29E. Or bombing around on his Norton.
What was your method for securing the boom on the glider? Our club just finished a winch and I made one video video already, but could use some better footage and cooler angles. This is a GREAT angle! and a very nice video too! Keep up the winching gentlemen.

Anyone else notice the pilot getting 10 years younger in just 10 seconds? :-)
Watch his face again after takeoff.
BTW. My friend John used to play guitar in The Thompson Twins (playing here).
He left shortly before they hit the big time - with hits like "Doctor, Doctor".

I love this beautiful song... it fits extremely well with glider flight and it isn't pretentious at all.

@spuduk7 Usually the pilot wears the hat and sits at the back.
1) to prevent heatstroke 2) to let the cool view to the passenger.
The guy in front looks around like a first timer.
7cle 1 year ago
@7cle not sure where you are coming from with those views !!
spuduk7 1 year ago
@spuduk7 You're right, the guy in front is the pilot, He's smiling a lot in those lazy eights and doesn't look like he'd want to puke !
However, I still think it's stupid to sit the passenger at the back for any other reason than a weight problem, too light for instance.
In my club in France we've always sat passengers in front.
