Hope that someone can help. I've been trying to install Ubuntu or Kubuntu. I want to replace XP on an old computer. When I try to install I get an error message that says something like ‘ENN: Error reading xeclur 9294’ in green across the screen. It comes up a number of times while it’s loading and the number at the end is different on each line. CD seems to speed up and slow down. Tried the following: slow burn on cd, changed things on f6, try OS without installing & I have checked the md5sum.
There is a search here somewhere. But let us be fair about this , mac users are normally satisfied, and you have paid the extra for Mac. However those forced into purchasing a home edition windows, get rid of it, and use UBUNTU instead. Too many intrusions and viruses with windows.
You dont buy it. They deliver it to you free of charge. You can also download it free of charge to be safely and automatically alongside windows. simplly go to ubuntu.com and download. In most cases you don't have to order the free disk
Why does every Linux tutorial seem to involve mounting an ISO on a CD? I think most people can handle something that basic. What people can't handle is linux commands and negotiating the command boxes. Where's an easy tutorial for that?
@kprofscrts if linux is so stupid and useless why do employers say prospective networking employees have roughly a 20% better chance of getting hired if they know linux?...musn't be all that stupid or useless.
well. I burned the iso fil to a cd. the cd works ( when i put it in while my pc is on, it asks to "run ubuntu.exe). anyways, i turn off my computer with the cd in it, press the boot menu (f12), and nothing happens, a little black screen appears with nothing on, and then it loads into windows. help?!

My windows dont have any viruses. I dont know what your talking about. no reason to get defensive ubuntu fans, just admit it, your prgram sucks! you guys will never reach windows compatibility with WORLD needed software. i can care less for fucking programming you fucking losers. My issue is i work for a living and need things to work immediately, FUCK UBUNTU!
this is stupid guys, switch back to windows. why go through a stupid terminal typing in sudo commands and all this complication just to adjust screen resolution? or play a windows game? or run a cool program that is actually useful? FUCK LINUX!
SOME really smart people use it for programing because windows is too virused up and apple cant offer enough computing power...so linux is jus fine if you need it fucktard
LInux is lame! i had it it sucks. This tutorial is the worst ever! It is nothing like this. Every program you like to install has an error therefore making you do a stupid 1000forum runaround because it's not user friendly, just to find one file to make your program work. Yeah ubuntu is quick, but stinks when it comes to it's use. it's waste of time. look at this tutorial, it shouldnt be this fucking long! Install disk, click enter nothing else. Why do peole still want linux? Because of cube?gay
Maybe ten years ago Linux was hard to install. But now anyone with normal intelligence should be able to do it and it's easier than installing windoze and more likely to work out of the box.
We speak Russian? I not understand.. Hello[w]! I'm a pupil... I'm going to school five days a week...on Monday и т.д I have a dog.. It's name is Lord (not Queen) I listen to rock music ( Slipknot, Korn, Lumen, KIPELOV and ARIA!!!) Aria - THE BEST... My school very old and dirt... i'm hate my school... i'm washes plates always... i'm sometime goes to park... I play voleyball.. I'm hate football..
Dude you a retard and yes i used incorrect grammar on purpose, windows 7 / XP / 2000 or any operating system does not run Linux Linux is not a front it is an operating system of its own, If you mean that systems bought with Windows 7 / XP or Windows 2000 are compatible with Linux then fine but if your going to post an informational video about Linux pleas use proper terminology or pleas just don't because there are about a 1000 of them that are correct informational and entertaining.
A lot of Linux drivers must be obtained separately due to copyright issues etc etc; so a bit of work is involved to get all codecs for music & also video to run properly. -- In the long run, you have much more to learn, but it should work out cheaper & free you from the hopeless monster Microsoft has become. Some Dell laptops come with it preloaded.
is you would like to run your windows apps, install WINE. you can do this from the package manager, or by typing "apt-get install wine" in the terminal (without quotes).
Can Linux run Microsoft Programs and that sorta thing? I have a school laptop with programs for school. If I got like permision from the school to use Linux do you think I could run all of my school programs?
if you are botting from the live cd version you can't install or save anything that you do, only if your using the cd if your using a usb that you could but not a cd!
Thanks for the tutorial EdzJohnson, you seem to have made it reasonably simple for me to try it out for myself and play around with to see what it's like.
BTW I do have a couple of other computers as well. A Windows Vista rig for gaming and as a Media Centre PC, and a Macbook Pro for my audio podcast production activities.
So I use Windows, Ubuntu and Mac OS X for different tasks. Basically what I believe is the best tools for certain jobs.
As I'm using Ubuntu on an Atom CPU powered netbook with Intel GMA graphics. High powered FPS gaming doesn't really come into the equation with this computer. When out and about I use Open Office to get work done and Firefox for surfing.
Yes Windows is certainly the best platform for gaming. Windows is a good platform for getting work done as well, except on my netbook. Here I've found Ubuntu to better suit my needs.
I do enjoy a bit of TuxRacer on the netbook as well, so it's not all work.
"If you had to choose What you liked more what would you choose?Windows Vista Or Ubuntu?"
Ubuntu every time, for my use there is no other choice. I don't play games (except maybe for occasional klondike solitaire) so absolutely no need for Windows here.
@benjamicetheninja yes, i agree. Very difficult to get drivers for the components you have, and it's a lot of geeky time spend trying to make everything work. In theory Ubuntu is amazing, but you'll be craving Windows or OSX after about 2 days
Not true. of course you have to get the extra add-ons. plug-ins to make your computer work as you want it, just the the same as if you installed windows fresh. But once you have these add-ons and plug-ins, ubuntu is easier than windows 7.
naah, not for me, i prefer the way things are on windows or vista - like the way they are set out and ithink the look of ubuntu is a bit "old" to be honest...but still i gave it a try and it was okay up to a point, it loaded fairly quickly, i think i was about 3/4 minutes until the whole thing was up and running. But great vid though - 5 Stars!
Hey.Can ubuntu run games that i bought for windows? because I like ubuntu just from what you showed me. I just want to know if i would be able to play my games still.
WINE does work, plus most programs on windows have a free alternitive on linux - apart from games, i've yet to find an app that I can't replace on windows
No operating system is perfect, but I've been much better experience with Linux than I had with Microsoft. My wife, who is not computer literate at all, and my daughter manage just fine with Ubuntu. Not getting viruses has been a real boon.
can i use this for a solution because my computer needs to be reinstalled?

Ubuntu, or any version of Linux for that matter, is an excellent operating system.
I've been using it for several months.
So long as you know what you're doing, there's zero reason for Windows.
UNIX is superior to Windows NT, the problem is, Steve Balmer doesn't want you to know that.
