His past was so terrible, yet he can release himself by singing with his beautiful voice. I find this amazing. He should have won, but either way he is a famous vocalist now. I find it amazing how in his first audition, he said he knew he wasn't a good singer, but he went up and sang and it made the judges cry. He is very talented and I hope the people who beat him when he was little regret it and feel horrible. Even if they didn't know about his talent then, they should watch and regret now.

You know what's the greatest part of the whole thing? That, if at the audition he came so unsecure, so... anxious, with so bad an opinion about himself, now he is smiling while singing, and you can see how incredibly happy he is. I think that's his best achievement, better than the dollars or the contract he got.
i remember the story of Joseph the dreamer...he was sold to a merchant by his brother but then God has a plan, from being a servant to a prisoner and to being a ruler of egypt. i know God has a plan for this young man,from being an orphan then runaway and become a homeless for 10 yrs. but look what he is right now,almost 20 million people watch his story in youtube. can you imagine how God use him to touch people lives including mine. i found myself so little compare to this young man.God bless!

I am very happy that this man achieve his target and now he is happy. I don't know Korean Language but i read his story. I am from Pakistan. But i Like Mr. Choi and my all wishes with Choi. These shows are full of this shit - all for the ratings and the money and full of disposable stars who have one hit and then are thrown out ready for the next "talented" tool. Seriously people, go lock yourself in a room for a week and clear your head of this shit - take some Beatles, Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, Elvis and Hendrix records and get re-educated.

For starters I wrote nothing about whether he had a family or not, or whether he really is off the street, but that he clearly has a musical education and and not just a rudimetnary one at that. If you knew anything about music, you'd realise that it's not possible to sing what he did without a lot of musical training. Secondly, you obviously haven't even listened to the (dubious) stuff he said; i.e. on the street since ~5; i.e. no family.

Wow, he has an amazing voice. I just watched his audition video before this, and for him to go through all that in his childhood is just heartbreaking. 1st place or not, he deserves something much greater than anyone, truely an inspiring person.
I get teary eyed every time I watched this amazing young man. I am also sad of his young life's experiences of what he has to go through. These experiences can also help a person become resilient & overcome life's tragedy. If I knew that he was coming to Palo Alto, California for a small performance last December 2011, I would have attended it.

You know what's the greatest part of the whole thing? That, if at the audition he came so unsecure, so... anxious, with so bad an opinion about himself, now he is smiling while singing, and you can see how incredibly happy he is. I think that's his best achievement, better than the dollars or the contract he got.

i remember the story of Joseph the dreamer...he was sold to a merchant by his brother but then God has a plan, from being a servant to a prisoner and to being a ruler of egypt. i know God has a plan for this young man,from being an orphan then runaway and become a homeless for 10 yrs. but look what he is right now,almost 20 million people watch his story in youtube. can you imagine how God use him to touch people lives including mine. i found myself so little compare to this young man.God bless!

@Tewma: Fame without integrity is easy. You just remove the parameters of decency and appeal to the depravity of mankind. The irony of depravity is it's own hypocrisies. Every stripper is a whore until she's stripping for her accuser, right? Suddenly, she's an entertainer performing her art.

Geez, and I thought I had a hard life? Some do not believe his story, but I do. Nobody can deny his ability. His work will always make me have courage if I struggle because no matter how hard it gets I know he rose above much worse to become more than I will ever be. He is a very amazing man and he deserves all he has coming to him. The 8 dislikers are people who clicked the wrong button because they could not see past the tears in their eyes. I am very happy that this man achieve his target and now he is happy. I don't know Korean Language but i read his story. I am from Pakistan. But i Like Mr. Choi and my all wishes with Choi. This is such bullshit. Western versions of this show wouldn't have the gall to try this kind of tear jerker but obviously in Korea the producers of Idol or whatever reincarnation of that show this is, have even lower standards. This guy is obviously not an amateur but someone with proper musical training, irrespective of whether he lived on the street or not. This is TV people, entertainment, not reality. I couldn't agree more. I just saw the audition and it's so easy to tell its a setup. It really is crap how lame this all is. These shows are full of this shit - all for the ratings and the money and full of disposable stars who have one hit and then are thrown out ready for the next "talented" tool. Seriously people, go lock yourself in a room for a week and clear your head of this shit - take some Beatles, Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, Elvis and Hendrix records and get re-educated.

For starters I wrote nothing about whether he had a family or not, or whether he really is off the street, but that he clearly has a musical education and and not just a rudimetnary one at that. If you knew anything about music, you'd realise that it's not possible to sing what he did without a lot of musical training. Secondly, you obviously haven't even listened to the (dubious) stuff he said; i.e. on the street since ~5; i.e. no family.

@limaktba have you ever seen the street kids in korea?they are in droves,they work from age of five/six even if hey have familys,and many of hem dont as if familys are poor children get kicked out to fend for themselves,mighty high pedestal you have put yourself and othr countries up on,we[hopefully]treat our kids with the respect and ,ove they deserve]doesnt go down that route in poorer Asian countries,raw talent?yep my mum is a music teacher once in a while it appears

I get teary eyed every time I watched this amazing young man. I am also sad of his young life's experiences of what he has to go through. These experiences can also help a person become resilient & overcome life's tragedy. If I knew that he was coming to Palo Alto, California for a small performance last December 2011, I would have attended it.
