Even if they lost Lazenby, they should've held on to director Peter Hunt. He had real flair and style, but never let them get in the way of the action.
The story is Lazenby and Rigg both read the book of the same title, and when filming the last scene, had them open on their laps, and were really crying at the end, but editing was used to maintain the Bond image.
Broccoli admitted that the reason for the film's (perceived) failure was not George Lazenby himself, but the horrible advertising campaign, which either ignored the new Bond, or as this trailer does, which emphasizes a "different" Bond.
All post "DAF" adverts emphasized the actor as (whoever) IS James Bond to prevent this from happening again.
He was also quoted as saying that Lazenby had real potential as one of the best Bonds.
AgentR523 what do you mean worst bond film ever made. Haven't you heard of roger moore who was absolute shit. Lazenby in my opinion is better than every one except connery.
I think that film is solid, and a part of the series I would never be without! I think the music in this is the best in the series. And the editor Peter Hunt knew what he was doing. He was important for the series. He and Terence Young came up with the pre-credit sequence. You mentioned Armstrong. It was his final recording, and the "romantic-sequence" before they marry in the film (in the park) is.. romantic. And lazenby sliding down on his belly firing his machine gun.. :)
Ofcourse editor on the previous Bonds did direct this one, bechause he was tired of editing. The editor here was John Glen, who `s first directing in the series was "For Your Eyes Only", with a direct reference to this film, starting with Bond visiting Tracys grave, then Blofelt still with his neck in (whats the name?) That film is a little bit like this one, more into the characters..
Most "misunderstood" Bond film and most "underrated" Bond, imho.

Quite easily they're two of the worst (Bond) films of all time. One was a good story badly done the other a bad story mundanely done, go figure.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
OHMSS, what a joke I don't know which is worse OHMSS or DAD but Lazenby is just a wooden, mumbling moron in this film. It works as a comedy.

Well that's just my opinion. I didn't think he was a very good bond but it's great to see that Lazenby has fauns

One of the best of the saga, to me. Good plot and great musics (Louis Armstrong above all). Lazedby is not too bad as well as many say. :)
