an amazing version of a fantastic song done in the inimitable sound of the most versatile voice I have ever known !! Roy has been my favourite singer since I was 15 and I am now 63!
Other singers were good but there was only one Roy Orbison. There has not been another with his voice that could sing his songs. R.I.P. Roy, we miss you.
A beautiful old Don Gibson song which he wrote and first recorded in 1957. Everybody and his brother recorded it after that. This is a fine version by Roy Orbison.
Unlike the Don Gibson original and the Ray Charles cover, Orbison starts with the verse instead of the chorus, and adds at least two verses. It turns the song into a less repetitive story, Roy's trademark.
I just listened to both parallel and this 1960 version is actually slightly slower. There is more chorus filler with "Auld Lang Syne" at the beginning in the 1972 version and Roy is freer with the vocal there, but I think this one expresses the emotion more effectively. Makes me cry anyway.
I've always loved this song. But the version that sticks in my mind was either by Ray Charles or Conway Twitty. I think it was Charles version though which was in the early 60s or maybe late 50s. Thanks for this version by Roy!

@0nCh1ng by far! today's country music is laughable compared to Roy Orbison, The Everly Brothers, Patsy Cline etc. it's just crap today.

I wonder if the garbage that is done by the biebers and gaga's of today will be remembered like music made by REAL people like Roy Orbison.

Don Gibson version is original guitar song; all another orchestra version is different....
Ray version 1962 is different than Roy, but later Jones modified Ray version.. (Ray was angry) ..
tastes and covers are different, but the first performance is only one

This is true. Elvis idolized Roy growing up, before he himself made his mark.

With all due respect, U are sooo wrong! Elvis was the King pure & simple. Now I really like Roy too, but Elvis was,, well Elvis...

I can't stop loving you.
There's no use to try.
Pretend there's someone new.
I can't live a lie.
I can't stop wanting you.
The way that I do.
There's only been one love for me.
That one love is you.
